Labubu-maker Pop Mart's shares extend slide as Morgan Stanley removes it from China focus list
BEIJING — Shares in Pop Mart, the Chinese toy company behind the recent Labubu craze, continued to tumble Friday, after Morgan Stanley removed the stock from a focus list. Pop Mart's Hong Kong-listed shares were last down more than 5%, extending their slide from the previous session when they had slumped 5.3%. That's put the high-flying stock on track for its first negative week since early May — with losses of more than 13% so far. Its year-to-date gains stand at over 160%. Morgan Stanley said in a note late Wednesday it was replacing Pop Mart with insurance company PICC P&C in the firm's China and Hong Kong focus list. The investment bank did not elaborate on why it removed Pop Mart shares. The firm on June 10 had raised its price target on the toy company to 302 Hong Kong dollars ($38.47), up from 224 HKD, on expectations that Pop Mart still had room to grow in the long term. "We think the market has fully factored in Pop Mart's exponential growth in 2025 but may not have strong conviction on the long-term outlook," equity analyst Dustin Wei and a team said in the June 10 report. "That said, in view of its lofty valuation, we do not expect this level of outperformance to continue in the next few quarters," the report said. Pop Mart shares hit a record intra-day high of 283.40 HKD on June 12. The Beijing-based toy company has rapidly expanded overseas with online sales platforms and physical stores, including in the U.S. and U.K. Pop Mart first gained popularity with its "blind box" concept, in which consumers buy unmarked boxes — which can cost from about $5 to $10 each — for a chance at getting a unique figurine and building a collection. In the last few months, the company's "Labubu" series of toys featuring an elf-like character have become a global phenomenon, even drawing the attention of fashion and culture-focused New York Magazine and The New York Times. Pop Mart has also released Labubu stuffed toys, pillows and related merchandise to capture demand. A 4-foot-tall Labubu sold for the equivalent of $170,000 at an auction in Beijing earlier this month. Many of the more affordable versions of the figurine subsequently went out of stock in mainland China. "We've seen certain trends like that before ... There seems to always be some cute thing that people have to have," Jacob Cooke, co-founder and CEO of WPIC Marketing + Technologies, told CNBC on Friday. The company helps foreign brands — such as Vitamix and iS Clinical — sell online in China and other parts of Asia. He pointed to interest last year in capybara stuffed toys. Chinese retailer Miniso, which also has stores in the U.S. and other countries, was one of the main sellers of the stuffed animal. Cooke saw Pop Mart as "more lucky than anything," although he pointed out it reflects growing interest in toys not just for children but also adults. Indicating the soaring popularity of its toys, Pop Mart's overseas sales in 2024 have already surpassed the company's overall sales in 2021. The company reported total sales, primarily domestic, of 4.49 billion yuan ($624.6 million) in 2021. In 2024, overseas sales alone surpassed that to hit 5.1 billion yuan, up 373% from a year ago, while mainland China sales climbed to 7.97 billion yuan.

Exclusive: Base10 leads €25M round for Italian HR startup Jet HR
Jet HR, a Milan-based platform serving small and midsized enterprises, raised €25 million in funding led by Base10 Partners, founder Marco Ogliengo tells Axios exclusively. Why it matters: There is increased investor appetite for vertical SaaS solutions tailored to regional markets with high regulatory complexity. How it works: Jet HR provides an all-in-one payroll and HR platform that is specifically designed to navigate Italy's complex payroll regulations. It integrates with over 600 government entities and offers modules for payroll, health and safety course management, VAT account management, shift scheduling, and time and attendance tracking. The big picture: Italy's payroll processing market is notably expensive and complex, averaging over €30 per employee per month compared to about $6 for U.S.-based payroll services. Jet HR is betting that its digital-first platform and simplified regulatory management give it an edge over legacy incumbents like Zucchetti and TeamSystem, which Ogliengo says rely more heavily on manual processes. By the numbers: The startup says it grew its annual recurring revenue 6x in 2024 and serves more than 700 customers, primarily SMEs with an average of around 15 employees. Context: Before Jet HR, Ogliengo founded ProntoPro, a marketplace for local service professionals — like a Thumbtack for Italy. Zoom in: Since its founding in December 2022, Jet has raised about €42 million from investors that include Exor Ventures, Italian Founders Fund, and Picus Capital. Ogliengo notes the company was close to breaking even without the additional funding, but "having more capital now increases our optionality significantly," he says. Between the lines: The round marks Base10's first investment in Italy, reflecting a growing interest in under-invested European markets. "We were already very well networked across Europe through our existing investors. The first thing Base10 brings is the U.S. network. Moreover, Base10 is specialized in vertical SaaS and payroll and accounting," Ogliengo says. Along with the funding, Base10's Adeyemi Ajao — founder of Tuenti and former investor in Stripe, Nubank, and Cabify — will join Jet HR's board. What's next: Jet HR plans to double its team in the next 18 months, primarily investing in software engineering and product development.

Where Will iA Financial Be in 10 Years?
Written by Jitendra Parashar at The Motley Fool Canada The financial sector has been leading the charge on the TSX over the last year, with iA Financial (TSX:IAG) emerging as one of the sector's top performers. After surging 66% in the last 12 months, iA stock now trades around $142 per share and has a market cap of $13.2 billion. At this price, it offers a 2.5% annualized dividend yield. This solid performance might be a reflection of the company's growing asset base, strong earnings momentum, and a business that's executing well across its insurance and wealth management segments. But with IAG stock now priced near all-time highs, the question is whether the company can maintain its current growth trajectory over the next decade. Let's take a closer look at iA Financial stock's key fundamental growth drivers and explore where it could be a decade from now. One big reason for the recent climb in iA Financial stock could be the stable demand for its life and health insurance solutions, as well as its growing wealth management presence. Even on the economic front, things have been supportive for financial stocks. Despite market volatility and concerns over U.S. tariffs and global trade tensions, the Canadian economy has held up reasonably well. iA's exposure to both Canadian and U.S. markets has enabled it to benefit from improving vehicle inventory levels and consumer affordability in the U.S., while also riding the wave of recovery in Canada's wealth and insurance sectors. In fact, its assets under management and administration reached over $264 billion by the end of the first quarter of 2025, reflecting a 15% YoY (year-over-year) jump. That's been a big confidence booster for iA Financial investors. In the first quarter, the financial firm's core earnings grew 19% YoY to $2.91 per share, suggesting that the business isn't just coasting on investor optimism but is also delivering real results. iA Financial recorded gains across all three of its key segments, including insurance, wealth management, and U.S. operations. Its wealth management segment especially performed exceptionally well, with record segregated fund sales surging by 52% from a year ago to cross $1.9 billion. Meanwhile, iA's U.S. operations showed impressive growth last quarter, with the segment's individual insurance sales jumping 62% YoY. And due to its disciplined approach, the company's capital base remains strong with a solvency ratio of 132% and $1.4 billion in capital. At its latest investor event held in February, iA Financial laid out ambitious but achievable goals. Interestingly, the company is targeting over 10% annual growth in earnings per share and an over 17% return on equity by 2027. Also, it expects to keep generating over $650 million in organic capital this year alone, preparing for expansion through smart acquisitions and investments. With its strong balance sheet, consistent dividend, and clear growth roadmap, iA Financial stock looks like more than just a short-term win. If it keeps executing like this, the stock could be trading at a significantly higher level a decade from now – making today's price look like a big bargain.
