DMK Drav Model 2.0 govt will rule TN again in 2026 : Stalin
Erode, June 11 (UNI) Asserting that the ruling DMK has launched various welfare measures for
the agriculturists, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said the DMK's Dravidian Model 2.0 will
form the government again in 2026 and more schemes would be launched for the farmers.
Stating that the DMK was always an agri-friendly government and listed out various initiatives implemented by it, Mr Stalin launched a scathing attack on the previous AIADMK regime and
accused it of betraying the farmers in every possible way.
Speaking after inaugurating an Agri Expo and a conference at Perundurai in this district, he said
the AIADMK rule was like weeds growing among crops--disruptive and harmful to agriculture.
Accusing the AIADMK of supporting the three farm laws enacted by the Centre that were aimed at snatching the rights of the agriculturists, the Chief Minister said "only for such acts of betrayal, you have defeated the AIADMK (in 2021 polls and installed the DMK in power".
Highlighting Erode's contribution to agriculture, the Chief Minister said, 'Known as the turmeric
capital of India, Erode ranks 8th in agricultural development in the state.
"For the first time in Tamil Nadu's history, our government has presented a separate budget for the agriculture sector', he added
Stalin said Tamil Nadu had produced 458 lakh metric tonnes of food grains in the past four years under the DMK regime. 'It is because of our farmers that we have food and good health. Their hard work ensures people live happily,' he said.
Referring to the DMK's approach since taking office, he said, 'We renamed the Agriculture Department as the Department of Farmers' Welfare to reflect our commitment. We are not fake farmers who just wear a green shawl for appearance. If a farmer faces a problem, I will be the
first to stand by their side.'
In a sharp critique, Stalin said, 'Farmers know how weeds sprout among crops. The AIADMK government was like those weeds. It betrayed farmers in every aspect. Think back—didn't you
have to protest for every basic need during their rule?'
He also pointed out that the number of farmer suicides was higher during the previous AIADMK regime.
In contrast, under the current DMK 'Dravidian Model government' he said, efforts are being made
to protect and support the farming community.
'The Dravidian Model 2.0 government will be established again and more schemes for agriculturists
will be launched. For this we need your continued support to take this farmer-friendly government forward,' he added.
During his official visit to the district, Mr Stalin also launched 16 completed projects and laid the Foundation stone for 11 new projects to the tune of Rs 175.23 crores and distributed Rs 25.41
crore worth welfare measures to 4,524 beneficiaries.

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: How Much Compensation Do Victims' Families Really Get?
Ahmedabad, New Delhi: When Air India Flight AI171 fell from the skies just moments after takeoff from Ahmedabad, the wreckage did not only raise questions about the safety of Boeing's Dreamliner fleet. It fuelled a debate – what do grieving families actually receive when disaster strikes at 30,000 feet? Onboard the ill-fated flight headed to London's Gatwick were 242 souls – 230 passengers, 10 crew members and two pilots. Among them was Gujarat's former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. For Boeing, this marks the first time the Dreamliner has suffered a crash. But the company is no stranger to tragedy. Its 737 Max series has crashed multiple times, killing over 500 people between 2018 and 2024 – even after major design overhauls. So, in the face of such devastation, what is the price of a life lost mid-air? For international flights like AI171, compensation is governed by the Montreal Convention of 1999. India signed on years ago. Under this treaty, the families of deceased or injured passengers are entitled to up to 128,821 Special Drawing Rights – a complicated financial term that roughly works out to Rs 1.4 crore per passenger. But here is where it gets important. If it is proven that the crash happened due to airline negligence – say, a technical fault ignored, improper maintenance or failure to follow safety procedures, then there is no upper limit. The compensation can skyrocket. This payout is usually split between the airline and its insurance partner. But for families, no amount can fill the void. Who pays the compensation – the airline or the insurance company? The short answer is both. In most cases, the airline is responsible for initiating compensation under international aviation laws. But the actual funds usually come from a combination of the airline and its insurance company. That is why major airlines are required to carry large-scale liability coverage. There is also another layer – travel insurance. Passengers who opted for personal coverage can unlock additional payouts. These can range from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 1 crore for accidental death and up to Rs 10 lakh for permanent disability. While the Montreal Convention specifically covers international routes, India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) recommends that airlines apply similar compensation frameworks for domestic passengers as well. In recent years, many Indian carriers have voluntarily aligned with this approach, offering matching coverage to families of victims. For some families, this insurance becomes the only financial cushion in the middle of emotional collapse. As investigators dig through the charred remains of AI171, aviation analysts are already saying what many do not want to admit – this may have been a man-made disaster. A failure not of machines but of judgment, oversight and accountability. Families are mourning. Legal teams are mobilising. And the question echoing through India's airports and global aviation boards is this: Why was not this prevented? Because when a plane falls from the sky, it is not only metal that hits the ground, it is also the trust.

Ashoka writes to NHRC over Chinnaswamy stampede
Bengaluru, Jun 12 (UNI) Karnataka Leader of the Opposition R. Ashoka on Thursday urged the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to take suo motu cognisance of the June 4 stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium here, which left 11 people dead and 75 injured during the IPL victory celebrations of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In a letter addressed to NHRC Chairperson, Ashoka alleged gross negligence and administrative failure on the part of the state government, police, and event organisers. He described the incident as a 'grave human rights violation' and called for a comprehensive investigation to fix accountability. 'This is not merely an unfortunate accident—it reflects a systemic failure and blatant disregard for public safety. The fundamental right to life of the victims was violated,' Ashoka stated. The stampede occurred when thousands of people gathered near the stadium following social media messages and reports that entry to the celebration would be free. The turnout reportedly far exceeded the crowd-handling capacity of the area. Ashoka outlined five major lapses that he believes led to the tragic stampede outside M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. He pointed to overcrowding caused by misleading announcements and overselling of the event, which resulted in lakhs of people arriving at a venue meant to accommodate only 35,000. This, he alleged, was exacerbated by inadequate police deployment and a lack of basic crowd control measures. Ashoka further highlighted the absence of emergency services at the scene, with eyewitnesses reporting shortages of ambulances, medical aid, and even water. He accused RCB, the event management firm DNA, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) of failing to coordinate and implement essential safety protocols. The state government's delayed and inadequate response—despite registering FIRs and announcing a probe—was also criticised as insufficient and reactive. Calling the incident a grave human rights violation, Ashoka appealed to the NHRC to take suo motu cognisance of the tragedy. He sought a thorough investigation into the roles of all responsible parties, legal action against those found negligent, formulation of national guidelines for large public events, and active monitoring of the inquiry to ensure accountability and justice for the victims. 'This tragedy has shaken public confidence. It is imperative that justice be delivered and preventive steps be taken to ensure no family has to suffer such a loss again,' he wrote. The state government has not yet responded to the allegations made in the letter. The NHRC is yet to make a statement on whether it will take up the matter. UNI BDN SSP
