Petitioners list allegations of Group-I test ‘irregularities'
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday continued hearing multiple petitions alleging irregularities in the conduct and evaluation of the Group-1 Mains Examination held from October 21 to 27, 2024. Justice Namavarapu Rajeshwar Rao, presiding over the single judge bench, heard the matter for over two hours before adjourning it to Thursday.
Petitioners, including K Parasharamulu of Shivanagar in Siddipet, sought a judicial inquiry into alleged discrepancies in exam centre allocation, hall ticket manipulation, and evaluation procedures. Senior advocates Surender and Vidyasagar represented the petitioners.
The petitioners claimed hall ticket numbers were altered between the preliminary and mains stages to influence centre allocation. 'Hall ticket numbers are never changed irrespective of the exam centre. The changes raise serious doubts about the integrity of the process,' they argued.
They also pointed to an unusually high success rate at centres 16 to 19, with over 600 candidates seated close to one another reportedly scoring identical marks. Most selected female candidates were from centres 18 and 19, with the selection method not clearly explained.
Further allegations included the use of underqualified evaluators, mainly degree college lecturers, who were instructed to assess one paper every five minutes. Concerns were also raised about evaluators' proficiency in Telugu, potentially disadvantaging candidates who wrote in the language.

Revanth Reddy Expands Telangana Cabinet, 3 Ministers Sworn-In
Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Sunday expanded his Cabinet by inducting three ministers. G Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Laxman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari were sworn in as ministers by Governor Jishnu Dev Varma at Raj Bhavan. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, his Cabinet colleagues, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president Mahesh Kumar Goud and senior officials attended the ceremony. Vivek took oath in English while the remaining two were sworn in Telugu. This is the first expansion in the Cabinet, which was formed on December 7, 2023, with the swearing-in of the Chief Minister and 11 ministers. The long-delayed expansion took place after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) cleared the names of three ministers. Though there are vacancies in the Cabinet, the party leadership decided to keep three posts vacant. The state can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the Chief Minister. Vivek Venkataswamy, a former MP and son of former Union Minister G. Venkataswamy, and Government Whip Adluri Laxman are from the Scheduled Castes, while Srihari is from the Backward Classes. Ramachandru Naik is a tribal MLA. Venkataswamy, an industrialist, had quit the BJP to join Congress a few weeks before the 2023 Assembly elections. He was elected to Parliament in 2009 from the Peddapalli constituency. He later joined TRS (now BRS) to put pressure on the Congress over the demand for statehood for Telangana. After the Telangana Bill was passed in the Parliament in 2014, he returned to Congress. He again returned to the TRS in 2016. In 2019, he resigned as advisor to the Telangana government and quit the ruling party after he was denied a ticket to contest from the Peddapalli Lok Sabha seat. He joined the BJP, which he quit again in November 2023 to return to Congress. Telangana Cabinet expanded with inclusion of Vivek Venkataswamy, Vakiti Srihari and Adluri Lakshman Kumar
The Telangana State Cabinet has seen the first expansion 18 months after the Congress Government took over the reins in December 2023. Governor Jishnu Dev Varma administered oath of office and secrecy to three new Ministers – G. Vivek Venkataswamy, Adluri Lakshman Kumar and Vakiti Srihari at a simple ceremony on Sunday (June 8, 2025). Mr. Vivek took oath in English and Mr. Lakshman Kumar and Mr. Srihari in Telugu in the presence of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Ministers, Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao, DGP Jitender, MIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi and senior Congress leaders. The strength of the Cabinet reached 13 with the addition of three more members and there is still space for accommodating few more. The portfolios of the new Ministers are yet to be announced amid talk that there can be a reshuffle in the portfolios of the existing Ministers. Expansion of the Council of Minister has been long overdue and several names cropped up once the Chief Minister intensified his requests to the Congress leadership to permit inclusion of new members. The Chief Minister and the Congress leadership took adequate care in striking social balance in the addition of new members with the inclusion of Mr. Srihari hailing from backward classes, Mr. Vivek from Mala community and Mr. Lakshman Kumar from Madiga community of the scheduled castes. Senior leaders like Komatireddy Rajgopal Reddy had openly lobbied with the party leadership for ministerial berths whenever the Cabinet was expanded while senior leader and former Minister Sudharshan Reddy was keen that his name be included in the list given his seniority in the party as also in the assembly. AICC Telangana affairs in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan held several rounds of discussions with sections of party leaders ahead of the expansion seeking their views. Though several names cropped up once the talk of expansion gained momentum, the Chief Minister reportedly preferred maintaining social balance on the council of Ministers in spite of the challenge he faced in managing the representation of the strong Reddy community.
