Dances at the Bay among happenings in Hamilton

The Dances at the Bay festival is not just about having fun.
It is about holding onto the human aspect of life and art that Vitek Wincza thinks artificial intelligence and social media is stripping away.
'It's something which would continue (to) make us feel human and important in this world,' said the artistic director for the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts.
Vitek Wincza is the artistic director for the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts.
He hopes his legacy is keeping the arts alive in Hamilton.
Wincza is leading the interactive festival's second self-produced year after the original 'Dusk Dances' pulled out of the city after more than 10 years.
'We'd been put in a position that we had to make a decision to continue or not,' said Wincza.
Now, with the local arts non-profit Incite Foundation sponsoring the event for the second year, the Hamilton Conservatory for the Arts Dance and Theatre partnership is bringing dance back to Bayfront Park from Friday to Sunday this weekend.
'We did the first year and (it) actually went extremely well, beyond our expectations,' said Wincza. He estimates it had a turnout of about 3,000 across the three-day festival.
Attendees can participate in a Latin family drumming circle and salsa dance workshop, or view a dance-theatre performance, synchronized swimming and a Chinese and Caribbean cultural dance performance.
But one of the dance performances is different.
Local choreographer and conservatory dance teacher Michael Mortley created a dance called 'Caribbean Sweet' to represent his Trinidadian culture, teaching it to eight people with little to no dance experience.
Michael Mortley dances in a Dusk Dances performance in Bayfront Park in 2022. Mortley has created a dance called 'Caribbean Sweet' to represent his Trinidadian culture in this year's performance.
'I've chosen to use very Caribbean esthetics and movement,' said Mortley.
The conservatory called out to those interested in March, before rehearsals started in May.
The showcase is part of the Fear No Dance! initiative, which encourages regular people to step outside their comfort zone through dance.
The performance is more than just a dance to Mortley.
'It has been one of my highlights to be able to make a body of work that represents the culture that I'm coming from,' said Mortley.
Another reward was to bring non-dancers together to build connections and learn from them.
'It allowed me to then see the human and be very much in awe of them and know how much they've achieved over the time,' said Mortley.

Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki and wife Caitlin share intimate wedding photos: 'Just the two of us, forever'

The couple tied the knot earlier in June during a ceremony in Turks and Caicos. The wife of Montreal Canadiens captain Nick Suzuki is reflecting on one of the most romantic days of her life. On Sunday, the 25-year-old shared several photos and videos from her intimate beachside wedding in Turks and Caicos last month. "Just the two of us, forever," she captioned an initial post. She paired her words with a dove emoji and her wedding date, which was on Monday, June 9, 2025. That post first featured a photo of herself and Nick, 25, holding hands and walking away from the camera, as she looked back over her shoulder with her veil draping down to the ground. The other pictures in the carousel showed off parts of the beach, one-on-one moments with her NHLer husband as well as his-and-hers vow booklets with their rings. Caitlin continued to shared a couple other posts from her stunning destination wedding, including a glam-shot video from a hair and makeup appointment for her cocktail bridal party. In the clip, hair artist Vanessa Wehbe showed off Caitlin's glamorous makeup look and immaculately-curled hair. A third post showed off the couple's "night before" in Turks and Caicos, where they spent the evening on a chartered catamaran. They took an intimate photoshoot on board, where they embraced in various poses and outfits on the boat. A couple shots featured Caitlin wearing a strapless white dress with her blonde locks tied in a ponytail, and Nick opting for a seafoam blue polo shirt and white pants. Another snapshot showed Caitlin wearing a white long-sleeve mini dress, with Nick changing into a white shirt and light khaki shorts. In all of the posts, fans raved over the beauty of the event and how stunning the couple looked during their beachside festivities. Others shared their congratulations to the newlyweds and expressed how they're still celebrating the duo. "Forever obsessed," wrote fellow Montreal Canadiens WAG Emma Fortin, who's married to Brendan Gallagher. "Gorgeous. Congratulations!" added Alexa Dobson, who recently married Montreal Canadiens defenceman Noah Dobson. "She hit us with so much in one day," joked Paola Anderson, who's married to Montreal Canadiens player Josh Anderson. "I'm so obsessed, no words at all," someone chimed in. "Actually never getting over these!!! Wow," someone else penned. Caitlin also took to her Instagram Stories to re-share numerous photos and videos — some of which had black-and-white filters — that wedding guests had posted on their accounts from the reception. That included clips from their first dance and other photos the couple had taken. Nick and Caitlin first connected through social media around 2016 or 2017. They had previously known of each other through mutual friends in London, Ont., and eventually Nick proposed in 2024 during a trip to the Dominican Republic. This past January, Caitlin took to social media to share footage from her bachelorette bash in Aspen, Colo. "The girlies take on Aspen part 1," she captioned a post on Jan. 5. The following month, she made an appearance on the "Never Offside" podcast hosted by Julie Petry, wife of Detroit Red Wings defenceman Jeff Petry, and Cat Toffoli, wife of San Jose Sharks alternate captain Tyler Toffoli. In an episode posted on Feb. 4, Caitlin opened up more about her relationship with Nick, her role as an NHL wife and her then-upcoming wedding "I've never dreamed of a wedding. I've dreamed of the person I'm going to marry, but I'm not a wedding person," she explained at the time. But thinking of having all of her loved ones in one room had pushed her to excitement over the big day: "To have everyone in one space together is my dream come true. ... I know it's going to be so much fun, so I'm really looking forward to that."

Christie Brinkley reveals Billy Joel's three final words to her before she left him

Billy Joel said he was "devastated" when second wife Christie Brinkley left him during their nine-year marriage that ended in divorce in 1994. "I realized love is not concrete," the "Uptown Girl" singer told the producers in the second part of his documentary "Billy Joel: And So it Goes." He added, "You know, you feel like it is, but there are things eating away at it, and in the end it all catches up. And it's hard. And I was so devastated." An obviously emotional Brinkley said she had tried. Christie Brinkley Recounts The Devastating Personal Moment That 'Nearly Broke Her' "I wanted it to work. I knew how lucky I was, having music and all that, but it just didn't work," she explained. The former couple met in 1983 in St. Barts. They married in 1985 and soon had their only daughter, Alexa Ray Joel. Read On The Fox News App "Our relationship went from lots of fun and really totally enjoying each other to his work consuming him, and if I did go on the road, I wasn't seeing him because the unwind period after the show was going on so late into the night, and it's like 'What am I even doing here?'" Brinkley said. "And I just got like 'I don't even know what to do, but I can't be lonely just me and Alexa in this big old house that was supposed to be so full of life and love and music and laughter and all that.' Things were starting to deteriorate." Joel said it was a hard time for him because they were newly married and had a young daughter, but he was on the road a lot of the time. Christie Brinkley Admits She's A 'Fool For Love' Despite Four Failed Marriages "I was in a relationship with someone who I cared deeply about, but I was not able to be at home," he said. "I was not able to be with my family. It was a very sad time for me." The 76-year-old said he thinks his daughter knew he and Brinkley were going to split up. "And for a child that's a very traumatic thing," he said. Joel's own parents divorced when he was 8 years old, around the same age as Alexa when he and Brinkley divorced in 1994, but Joel's father left after the divorce, and he didn't see him again until he was in his 20s. She said she would pretend to be asleep when he came into their bedroom drunk, "'cause I didn't want to see him in that condition." Like What You're Reading? They divorced five years later, and he married his current wife, Alexis Roderick, in 2015. They share two daughters.
