J&K Police urge Amarnath pilgrims to travel in convoys for safety
Jammu and Kashmir Police have urged Amarnath Yatra pilgrims to avoid independent travel and join official convoys for safety, days ahead of the annual pilgrimage.
In a small advisory on X, Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Jammu said, Shri Amarnath Ji yatra pilgrims who wish to start their yatra from Jammu are advised to join only the official convoys for a safe and secure journey.

The Amarnath Yatra is scheduled to begin from July 3 and will continue till August 9. The advisory comes around the time when a counter-terror operation is underway in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur district.
Officials confirmed on Thursday that four Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists are trapped in a forested area in Udhampur district with security forces attempting to neutralise them, PTI reported.
The operation was launched following specific intelligence, after which a joint party search was launched by the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir in the Bihali area of Basantgarh.
The 13th Battalion of the NDRF carried out a drill that included various emergency scenarios, rescue operations, medical assistance, and support for the yatra and its pilgrims, the official said, as quoted by PTI.
Moreover, the lodging facilities in the district were also inspected by Udhampur Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai. 'All arrangements have been put in place. The Udhampur district houses 26 lodgement centres with a capacity to accommodate 6,500 pilgrims. We have established centres to house pilgrims in case of any weather-related or other emergencies,' she said, as quoted by PTI.

SRINAGAR: Acknowledging a dip in registrations for Amarnath Yatra following the Pahalgam terror attack , Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha on Thursday assured full security for the yatra, which is set to begin on July 3, and appealed to devotees to participate in large numbers. At a press conference at Raj Bhawan, Sinha said there had been a 10.19% decline in pilgrim registrations compared to last year, attributing the drop to the Pahalgam massacre. He said before the attack, the pace of registration was encouraging, with around 2.36 lakh pilgrims signing up for the yatra, which concludes on Aug 9. The LG said the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) had launched a re-verification programme for pilgrims who had registered before the April 22 Pahalgam attack. 'So far 85,000 pilgrims have reconfirmed their registration after consultation with SASB,' he said, and hoped the numbers would go up in the coming days. Sinha unveiled the security plan, reassuring devotees about safety, and also gave the details of the upgraded infrastructure along the routes to ensure a smooth and safe pilgrimage. He advised the pilgrims to move in the designated convoys for safety reasons. Even those coming in their own vehicles were advised to move in convoys, he maintained. Several new initiatives had been introduced, including a comprehensive insurance scheme covering not just the yatris, but also ponywallas and other service providers, the LG said. However, helicopter service had been suspended this year due to recent chopper accidents and security concerns, he revealed. He added that this would not affect the overall flow of the yatra as only a small percentage of pilgrims used the helicopter service. Sinha said SASB had developed several pilgrim-centric amenities over the past two years, including widening of both the yatra routes to around 12ft along most stretches. Safer yatra tracks have been prepared with stronger safety handrails all along the Baltal track and over 20 km on vulnerable stretches on the Pahalgam track. He said the tracks and camps would have power connectivity till the holy cave and from there to Panjtarni. There will be enhanced accommodation for pilgrims at SASB's Yatri Niwas complexes at Baltal (800), Nunwan (900) and Pantha chowk (1000). 'Digital pre-paid systems for hiring of various services like pony, pithu and palki will be available for pilgrims,' he added. At the holy cave, the wooden darshan platform has been replaced with a stainless steel platform with wood flooring. 'Now, pilgrims would be able to have darshans simultaneously in four rows. This shall facilitate better and hassle-free darshans,' he added. Responding to a query whether he will allow the elected govt to have a say in the yatra's administrative affairs, the LG said he would be holding a separate meeting with chief minister Omar Abdullah to discuss the matter. He said people of Kashmir had always welcomed Amarnath yatris with warmth and unparalleled hospitality. 'There is no alternative to the Kashmiri spirit of welcome. Let us continue this tradition and ensure the yatra is safe, peaceful and successful for all,' he added.

Global use : Since the passports are compliant with ICAO standards, they are recognised globally. As per the latest updates from the Ministry of External Affairs, e-passports are issued phase-wise and in the next few years will become the norm for all new applicants. Faster verification through mPassport Police App One of the more frustrating parts of applying for a passport has always been the police verification process. Depending on the location, this step could delay an application by weeks. In order to mitigate that, the Ministry of External Affairs launched the mPassport Police App, a mobile app now being used by the police in 25 states and Union Territories. As per the official update in the Ministry, the app has managed to decrease verification timelines to a mere 5 to 7 days in most regions. Police officers currently get electronic notifications, can upload proof of information at the scene, and transmit real-time updates to passport offices. This not only enhances speed but also avoids paperwork by hand and follow-up delays. For students, working professionals, and first-time applicants, this alone has made the whole process much more certain and less stressful. How to apply for e-Passport online in India If you want to know how to obtain an e-passport, the procedure is not that different from obtaining a normal one. Here's how you do it: Visit the government's official website at This is the sole authorised website for applying for a passport in India. First-time users can register on the basis of name, date of birth, and contact number. If you've already got an account, simply log on. Choose the e-passport option and enter your personal details, travel history, and identification data. Choose a local Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) for your appointment. The payment gateway has multiple options such as UPI, credit/debit cards, and net banking. Choose a date and time slot. Remember that early morning slots are less crowded. Bring proof along to have it verified, and your biometric information will be captured at the time. Pilgrims' progress & the railways' look-east policy
The holy city, the abode of Mahaprabhu, Jagannath Puri, is ready for the Rath Yatra. It is a journey of faith for the millions of devotees coming from across the globe. And Bhartiya Rail is at the service of these pilgrims, facilitating their overall experience in the Shreekshetra Puri. Bhartiya Rail, fondly called as the lifeline of the nation, remains committed to the service of all Indians including the pilgrims who consider Rath Yatra as their lifeline. (PTI) The last 11 years have been historic for Odisha's railway infrastructure development. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's purvodaya policy, Odisha's railway budget allocation has seen a 12-times jump to over ₹ 10,500 crore in 2025-26 as compared to the annual average during 2009-14. Since 2014, over 2,100 km of new tracks have been laid in Odisha, more than the entire rail network of Malaysia. Approximately ₹ 73,000 crore worth of projects for constructing new tracks in Odisha are ongoing: 59 Amrit stations are being developed, including 16 stations in aspirational districts; six Vande Bharat services covering 17 districts are operational. The most special contribution of Indian Railways to Odisha is during the Rath Yatra. The railways undertakes the task of serving lakhs of Rath Yatra pilgrims every year. Travel for the pilgrims has been eased. There has been a four times jump in the Rath Yatra special trains over the last 11 years. A total of 1,215 train services including 850 regular and 365 special train services are being provided this year for Jagannath Puri. These services connect many districts of Odisha including aspirational districts of Kalahandi, Balangir, Nuapada, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati and Dhenkanal and interior tribal regions to Shreekshetra Puri. An AI-based real-time demand prediction system has enabled dynamic scheduling. 10 platforms are welcoming the pilgrims this year. Additional ticket counters have also been set up at Puri as well as other railway stations. With the spirit of seva parmo dharma (service is the highest duty) Bhartiya Rail ensures dignity, comfort, and security of the pilgrims during the Rath Yatra. This year marks one of the largest facilitation drives for inclusive pilgrimage travel. The Railways is ready to cater to around 20 lakh passengers with a daily peak of two lakh. A holding space with a capacity to accommodate 25,000 pilgrims has been designated. Adequate arrangements have been made to provide relief from the hot weather. Sufficient food stalls and water booths and coolers have been arranged. An estimated 2.5 lakh free meals will be served to the pilgrims. Sanitation and cleanliness arrangements including modern jet cleaning machines and sewage suction trucks are also in place. A much larger pool of security personnel have been deployed for ensuring safety and security of the pilgrims. They will be supported with CCTVs, drones, and face recognition systems. Accessibility needs of divyangjans (people with disabilities), elderly, women, and medically vulnerable pilgrims have also been taken care of. Medical booths with doctors and paramedics, ambulances, and first-aid counters have been set up. This year, Indian Railways has converted Puri station into a model of inclusive and faith-centred public service. A team of Indian Railways including engineers and technicians is also deployed at the Rath Yatra. This team is responsible for ensuring smooth movement and repair work of the chariots during the Yatra. The team assists in transporting the massive chariots from the construction site to Shree Jagannatha temple. The railways team uses the special screw jacks for ensuring proper positioning, alignment, and forward movement of the chariots on the designated path. It also helps in removing any obstacles and maintaining adequate distance between the chariots. The team accompanies the chariots till the completion of the Yatra. Bhartiya Rail is fondly called as the lifeline of the nation. It remains committed to the service of all Indians including the pilgrims who consider Rath Yatra as their lifeline.
