Home and Away trailer teases the shock fate of Irene Roberts' character as Lynne McGranger leaves the soap after 33 years

Viewers are preparing to farewell one of Home and Away 's most beloved characters this week. Irene Roberts, who actress Lynne McGranger has played for over three decades, will make her final exit in a double episode beginning Monday. And a new trailer teases that fans are in for an emotional rollercoaster as Irene prepares a farewell party. At one point in the preview, Irene, who has been struggling with the onset of Alzheimer's disease, says she wants to 'see old friends while I still remember them'. Fans have watched with distress over the last few weeks as McGranger's character, known for her sharpness, has suffered memory loss. In her exit storyline, Irene is leaving her life in Sumner Bay to travel the world, 'while she still can'. Another highlight of the trailer sees Ada Nicodemou share a tearful scene with McGranger's fan favourite. Ada, who has appeared as the character of Leah on Home and Away for 25 years can be seen telling her old friend Irene, ''I just know that everything would be alright because you were by my side.' Fans will be eager to see how the wrenching storyline between Irene and her close friend John (actor Shane Withington) will play out. The preview teases that John may not be able to bring himself to make Irene's farewell party. As Irene finally packs away her home, a distressed John can be seen barely holding himself together as he tells his friend, 'I don't know how to say goodbye...I don't have the words.' It was during a series of episodes last month that John helped Irene come face-to-face with the truth about her medical condition. Also included in the trailer are a collage of throwback moments featuring McGranger's character celebrating her 33 years on the soap. In March, it was revealed that McGranger had filmed her final scenes as Irene on Home and Away, with the series sharing moving scenes from her last day on set. The 72-year-old was gifted flowers by her co-stars, including Nicodemou, and looked very emotional - albeit elated - as she finished up at Seven's long-running series after over 30 years in the cast. 'I've had the ride of my life. And I love each and every one of you so much: The cast – Ray, Georgie, Emily, Shane, Ada, James, all the youngins' she said in a statement. 'The art department, the writers, everybody – there are so many unsung heroes. This show is made up of so many parts' Lynne continued. 'You're all amazing, and it's been my great privilege to work with each and every one of you. I'm touched, I'm humbled and I'm so honoured. Thank you so much.' An additional post to the show's Instagram read: 'Today, Lynne wrapped her final scene with her best friend Ada by her side. 'Stay tuned for Irene's emotional exit storyline coming later this year'. McGranger has been a Home and Away fan favourite for three decades playing the character of 'Aussie battler' Irene. The actress, who won the Gold Logie at this year's 65th Awards, announced her departure from the show earlier this year. 'After almost 33 years in my dream role and working every day with people who I love, respect and whom I now consider family, it's bittersweet to be closing the chapter on what has been the best and longest gig of my life' the veteran star said at the time. 'I am forever grateful to the best production crew in the world and to our genius writers – whose doors are always open – for everything they have done for Irene over the past 33-odd years' she continued. 'And I am so proud of the storyline which will see Irene out of the Bay. Above all, a massive, heartfelt thank you to the fans for your continued love and support.' Home and Away Says Goodbye to Irene screens over Monday and Tuesday on Seven and 7+ at 7 pm

Chris Hemsworth reveals the stupidest thing he's ever done in front of thousands of people

As part of a new challenge to push himself, the Marvel actor decided to learn to play the drums - but when he played in a stadium with pop star Ed Sheeran, he was terrified... Terrified, sweating and short of breath, Thor actor Chris Hemsworth said playing drums for Ed Sheeran in front of 70,000 people was 'the stupidest thing I could have done'. The Australian star, best known for playing a hammer-wielding Norse God, was wielding drum sticks instead as he took to the stage - and he was way out of his comfort zone. He says: 'All the fans are going to be watching me destroy an Ed Sheeran classic.' ‌ The scary challenge was part of a bold new mission for Chris, and this time, not in the Marvel world, in the real world. In a thrilling three-part series Limitless: Live Better Now, streaming today (Aug 15) on Disney+, Chris pushes himself further than ever - physically, mentally and emotionally - as he confronts some of life's most universal challenges: pain, fear and cognitive decline. Determined to discover how we can all live better, Chris dives into three high-stakes challenges that promise real, immediate ways to sharpen our minds and strengthen our bodies. ‌ ‌ In the first series, the 42-year-old discovered while filming that he is, biologically, eight to ten times more likely than the average person to develop Alzheimer's disease because he carries two copies of a certain gene. 'That warning sign was further motivation to take care of myself,' he says. In this second series, filmed across six countries over two years, he climbs a 600-foot Alpine dam, learn the drums to perform live with Ed Sheeran, and endure South Korean Special Forces training. He adds: 'I've always worked very hard on my physical fitness but I'm realising that I need to put as much work in for my brain as I do for my body. I'm diving head first into cutting edge science to uncover three secrets to living better.' We see Chris struggling as he first starts to learn the drums, with Ed Sheeran telling him: 'I think this might actually be the most difficult thing you do.' Just two months later we see Chris preparing to go on stage in the massive arena in Bucharest, Romania. Chris says: 'Of all the stupid things I could have done, this feels like the stupidest. The moment I walk out and see how big that arena is, I'm starting to think 'I've got to get out of here'." He adds: "Nervous energy, heart rate, sweaty palms, short of breath, all of that. The reality is kicking in and I'm feeling really terrified. All the fans are going to be watching me destroy an Ed Sheeran classic. It's one take, one shot. I basically have no musical talent so how did I end up playing drums for one of the biggest pop stars in the world in front of 70,000 people?' He adds: 'This is the first challenge in a journey that will take me all over the world - discovering three powerful secrets to living better right now. Can we supercharge our brains by learning something new? Can we beat pain by reframing? And what benefits are there if we face the things that scare us most? It's a life-changing mission that will push my mind and my body to the limits.' ‌ Starting in London, where he has some cognitive tests, Chris says: 'There are some days when I think my memory is pretty good but there are other days when I think 'Something's not firing properly'. I put it down to being overwhelmed by certain things and having too many things on my plate.' He is told that one of the best ways to boost his brain is to learn a new skill, especially a musical instrument, which activates visual, auditory and motor skills all at once. Of course he decides to play the drums - he's Thor. And of course he's mates with Ed Sheeran. There's a lot of stress but his surprise performance, to the hit Thinking Out Loud, is met with rapturous applause in the stadium. Chris says: 'I haven't ever had 70,000 people staring at me like this. Ed told me to take my headphones out and listen (to the applause). I'll never forget that moment.'

Ruth Langsford addresses being 'in crisis' following breakdown of Eamonn Holmes marriage

Ruth Langsford addressed the notion of being 'in crisis' following the breakdown of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes during Tues Ruth Langsford has addressed the notion of being 'in crisis' following the breakdown of her marriage to Eamonn Holmes. The presenter, who called time on her marriage to her former This Morning co-host in 2024, was back in her usual seat as anchor on Tuesday's edition of Loose Women when she, along with Coleen Nolan, Myleene Klass and Katie Piper discussed the idea of going through a midlife crisis. ‌ She said: "There's a point where you are in crisis actually whether you've made the decision to end your marriage or it's been made for you or you've lost your job or you've decided to leave your job. Sometimes you have that moment where you go, 'Oh no, what's happened to me?' ‌ Despite this, Ruth, 65, admitted that one can sometimes 'surprise themselves' in the wake of a big life event like a marriage split, even though there can be a lot of 'panic' to begin with, especially when age comes into consideration. She added: "I think you can surprise yourself - you have that moment where you panic panic panic and the age thing comes into it. You think oh no I'm 65 what will I do?" ‌ And in quoting the famous song I Will Survive by Gloria Gaynor, Ruth insisted that the best way to get through something like a split is just to 'deal with it' all head on. She said: "But like the song, do I crumble? Do I lay down and die? Or do I survive? You just have to get up and dust yourself off and whatever that new path is going to be, you have to deal with it." Ruth's comments come just one day amid fresh heartbreak for her, and the former Strictly Come Dancing star recently spoke out about how she manages to balance her hectic television career with caring for her 94-year-old mother Joan, who is battling Alzheimer's. She said: "She wouldn't remember what she's had for her lunch or breakfast, and if I go and see her, when I leave, if you said to her was Ruth here today, she'd say no. But in the moment, she still knows it's me – as soon as she sees me, she says 'Oh, what a lovely surprise!' like she hasn't seen me for months. "It's very difficult, but I'm much more well-versed in this with my mum, because of my dad. We as a family had no idea about Alzheimer's or dementia when he got it, and we were a bit lost. I learned a lot of lessons with my dad." Ruth and Eamonn, who have 23-year-old son Jack together, have been relatively quiet about the ins and outs of their private life since the split happened, but Eamonn recently told his social media followers that Maggie will feature in the Times this week. He wrote: "So much interest and Love for Maggie following yesterday's post to the extent that she is going to star in @thetimes on line from tomorrow and this week's Sunday Times." ‌ The GB News host, who has experience health issues in recent years but has been spotted out and about with new girlfriend Katie Alexander, went on to say that his ex does "all the hard stuff" with Maggie. He said: "Ruth does all the hard stuff with her because of my Wheelchair restrictions but working hard to hopefully get better soon and adopt another #Rescue #Dog like we did from @dogstrust all those years ago!" The presenter added: "Maggie changed my life and she was making me very happy in The Sunshine today. In many ways she reminds me of my dearly departed Mum - a really bad knee and hardly any teeth left but not bad for a 17 year old!" Eamonn, who is a patron of rescue group K-9 Angels, concluded: "Please try to Adopt and Not Shop if u can. from organisations like @thek9angels and @dogstrust Enjoy the Sunshine but please be aware of your dog in a car and it's little feet on hot pavements. Bye from Maggie and Me."
