A man has suffered life-threatening injuries in a stabbing in Weston-super-Mare, police have said.Avon and Somerset Police said officers were investigating a serious assault on Ashcombe Road at about 03:15 BST.The force referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct "in relation to an individual being injured following prior police contact".The victim was in a critical but stable condition in hospital, police said.
A scene guard was in place between Locking Road and Earlham Grove.Police said inquiries were ongoing and anyone with information should contact them.

Sources said telly extra Nigel Adams was led away in handcuffs by six cops while he was still in costume — in front of shocked cast members on the toffs drama. 3 3 3 Adams, 45, was in a polo scene with ex-EastEnder Danny on Wednesday for the second series of the Disney+ show, also starring David Tennant and Emily Atack. Around 60 minutes later, two cop cars turned up. He was driven away and spent two nights in a police cell before appearing in court on Friday accused of assaulting an ex-girlfriend. A source said: 'It was very dramatic. "Everyone was in their costumes and Danny was filming this polo scene when an hour later police suddenly turned up to arrest one of the extras. It was shocking.' Tipped off The assault is alleged to have happened at a house in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset. Police were called to the address at 2am on May 31. Cops wanted to question Adams, also a supporting actor on BBC's Casualty and Doctor Who, in connection with the incident. It is understood Avon and Somerset Police were tipped off that the bricklayer turned TV extra was filming on the new series of the Jilly Cooper bonkbuster adaptation Rivals. Officers swooped after the polo match scene — with Dyer in his role as lovable Freddie Jones and also ­featuring The Musketeers star Luca Pasqualino — had been shot in the grounds of ­Berkeley Castle, Gloucs. 'Whenever he's in the background of a show he gets all his family and friends to watch it.' Adams was also an extra in House of the Dragon and The Forsyte Saga. And he appeared in the 2022 movie Prizefighter: The Life of Jem Belcher, starring Ray Winstone — when he was photographed alongside the Emmy-winning actor. He'll be gutted because it could end his TV career, something he really loves doing. Adams' pal Adams appeared at Bristol magistrates' court on Friday charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. He made no plea and was given conditional bail until he returns to the city's crown court on July 7. Production company Happy Prince, which makes the drama Rivals, said: 'On the 4th June, the police visited the set regarding an ­unrelated matter involving a supporting artist. 'Production co-operated with the police. We do not have any further information as it is not connected to Rivals or to our production.' Avon and Somerset Police confirmed a man was arrested at Berkeley Castle on June 4. They said Adams, from Locking, Somerset, was charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.

Three teenagers have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a 15-year-old boy was seriously injured in Sunderland. Police were called by the ambulance service to an injured teenage boy on Margaret Terrace in New Herrington at about 6.10pm on Friday, Northumbria Police said. Emergency services attended the scene where the boy, aged 15, had sustained serious injuries consistent with being caused by a bladed article, the force said. He was taken to hospital for treatment of injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening and remains in a stable condition. His next of kin have been informed. Northumbria Police added that the investigation is at an early stage but it is understood the boy had been assaulted within the grounds of Herrington Country Park. Two boys, aged 16, and a girl, aged 15, were arrested in connection with the report on suspicion of assault and have been further arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, the force said. They remain in police custody. Chief Superintendent Nicola Walker, of Northumbria Police, said: 'This is a serious incident which saw a young boy assaulted – and we wish him well as he is treated in hospital. 'I would like to reassure our communities that we're carrying out extensive inquiries to understand what happened, with three people in custody being questioned by police. 'Our officers remain in the area to offer reassurance and investigate, which involves some search activity within Herrington Country Park. 'While inquiries remain at an early stage, it is believed some of those involved could be known to each other.' She added: 'We know this is a high footfall area, and it's likely there were lots of people in and around the park at the time of the incident.
