Bengaluru saree shop's ChatGPT-inspired ad goes viral

India Today2 days ago
A saree store in Bengaluru has found a new way to grab attention by borrowing a bit of AI flavour. In a city where tech meets tradition daily, the saree shop has decided to speak the language of its people, literally. The store used a ChatGPT-style prompt on its display board, asking, 'Why is Varamahalakshmi festival celebrated?' - a question many may already be typing into search bars as the festival draws near on August 8.advertisementThe timing couldn't have been better. Saree shopping tends to hit its peak during this festive period across South India, and the shop cleverly positioned itself in both cultural and digital conversations.
The design ditched the now-overdone Google search layout in favour of something more current and instantly recognisable to the users online. Sharing a picture of the shop, a user on X said, 'Local saree shop in Bangalore using ChatGPT mobile interface for an ad is a first. Earlier it would be the Google search bar design. Just Bangalore things, I guess.'Take a look at the post here: The post went viral as several users praised the creativity and context of the ad. While some found it amusing, others saw it as a smart reflection of the city's growing digital-first mindset.- EndsMust Watch

Big Brother 21's Ovi Kabir Marries Hannah Blackwell in Colorful Two-Day Multicultural Wedding in Tennessee

Big Brother season 21 contestant Ovi Kabir married his college sweetheart, Hannah Claire Blackwell, in a two-day wedding on August 1 and 2, 2025, in Sevierville, Tennessee. The celebrations blended Ovi's Bangladeshi heritage and Hannah's Southern roots, creating a unique multicultural ceremony. In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE on August 6, Ovi described the event as 'more than a celebration,' calling it 'a stamp of affirmation' that their love is 'written in history for all to see.' Two-day wedding blends Bangladeshi and Southern traditions The first day featured a traditional Bangladeshi gaye holud, a pre-wedding ritual where turmeric paste is applied to the couple for blessings. The ceremony took place inside The Glass House at Nichols Heir, with music, dancing, and colorful attire. Hannah wore a lehenga, while Ovi donned a panjabi, honoring his cultural roots. Guests also experienced Mehndi (henna) traditions for the first time. The second day shifted to an American-style wedding in the venue's Grand Hall. The design theme was described as 'vibrant romance meets modern garden party.' While the day reflected Hannah's Southern background, Ovi's heritage was included through meaningful details. Big Brother stars join the celebration in Tennessee The ceremony welcomed 190 guests, including Big Brother alums Tommy Bracco, Kat Dunn, Cliff Hogg, and Nicole Fontanez (Anthony). Other notable attendees were Alex Ramo, Kellye Cash, Tatum Sheppard Filegar, Avery Rizzotto, and Synclaire Warren. Why the couple chose the smoky mountains for their big day Ovi and Hannah met at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. 'East Tennessee and the Smoky Mountains are the birthplace of our love story,' they shared. After eight and a half years together, from late-night study sessions to weekend drives, they felt it was only fitting to marry where it all began. 'It already felt like home,' they said. The wedding aisle was lined with flowers in pink and purple, overlooking the Great Smoky Mountains. Family members walked to 'Dearly Beloved' by Yoko Shimomura, a nod to Ovi's favorite game, Kingdom Hearts. The wedding party entered to the Nutcracker's Andante Maestoso, and Hannah walked to Patrick Doyle's Harry in Winter. Hannah wore a Wona Concept Devotion gown, a custom cathedral-length veil, and Verstolo jewelry. Ovi and his groomsmen dressed in Friar Tux suits, and even their corgi, Mowgli, wore a mini tuxedo. The couple will spend their honeymoon at Conrad Punta de Mita in Mexico, enjoying a week-long getaway after their multicultural celebration.

Will South Korea allow Google to export map data? US mounts pressure ahead of summit talks

South Korea has postponed a decision on Google's request to export map data for 60 days, citing security concerns. The move comes amid US pressure to resolve the issue ahead of a possible leaders' summit this month. read more People stand in front of a Google logo during a media reception at the Google France headquarters ahead of the Artificial Intelligence Action Summit in Paris, France. File Image/Reuters In response to pressure from the United States to resolve what Washington views as a non-tariff obstacle during recent trade discussions, South Korea postponed a decision on Friday on Google's request for authorisation to export map data, according to its transport ministry. After completing a trade agreement in late July, South Korea and the United States are getting ready for a summit of their leaders, which might take place this month. However, it was unclear if the map issue would be brought up at the meeting. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD In 2016 and 2007, South Korea denied petitions by Google, whose parent is Alphabet, for permission to utilise map data on servers outside the nation, citing security concerns. In order to allow Google time to develop solutions that meet its security concerns, the National Geographic Information Institute of South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport stated in a statement that it has chosen to delay the decision for 60 days. Google claims that after undergoing a security evaluation by a government body, there were no security issues with its mapping data on South Korea, which are publicly accessible and utilised by several businesses. However, the business stated that it is actively negotiating with the South Korean government over any further security measures that the authorities may seek, as well as plans to buy blurred images from government-approved local partners. South Korea, whose 1950-53 war with North Korea ended without a peace treaty, argues that if it allowed such data to leave the country, the locations of military facilities and other sensitive sites could be revealed. But the US said restrictions on cross-border data flows have long served as barriers to operating navigation services through Google Maps and Apple Maps, resulting in US companies losing out in the South Korean market. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD South Korea had not made concessions on the map issue and also on further opening up agriculture, despite early and intense bilateral talks, presidential adviser Kim Yong-beom had said. Google said the lack of data restricts its Google Maps services in Korea, causing major inconveniences to foreign tourists. Late last month, Transport Minister Kim Yoon-duk said South Korea needed to be 'very cautious' about granting map access, saying defence and public safety were prioritised over trade.

OpenAI launches GPT-5, a key test of AI hype; India could be our biggest market, says CEO Altman

OpenAI has released the fifth generation of the artificial intelligence technology that powers ChatGPT, a product update that's being closely watched as a measure of whether generative AI is advancing rapidly or hitting a plateau. GPT-5 arrives more than two years after the March 2023 release of GPT-4, bookending a period of intense commercial investment, hype and worry over AI's capabilities. In anticipation, rival Anthropic released the latest version of its own chatbot, Claude, earlier in the week. Expectations are high for the newest version of OpenAI's flagship model because the San Francisco company has long positioned its technical advancements as a path toward artificial general intelligence, or AGI, a technology that is supposed to surpass humans at economically valuable work. It is also trying to raise huge amounts of money to get there, in part to pay for the costly computer chips and data centres needed to build and run the technology. OpenAI started in 2015 as a nonprofit research laboratory to safely build AGI and has since incorporated a for-profit company with a valuation that has grown to USD 300 billion. The company has tried to change its structure since the nonprofit board ousted its CEO Sam Altman in November 2023. He was reinstated days later and continues to lead OpenAI. It has run into hurdles escaping its nonprofit roots, including scrutiny from the attorneys general in California and Delaware, who have oversight of nonprofits, and a lawsuit by Elon Musk, an early donor to and founder of OpenAI. Most recently, OpenAI has said it will turn its for-profit company into a public benefit corporation, which must balance the interests of shareholders and its mission. 'We are introducing GPT‑5, our best AI system yet. GPT‑5 is a significant leap in intelligence over all our previous models, featuring state-of-the-art performance across coding, math, writing, health, visual perception, and more. It is a unified system that knows when to respond quickly and when to think longer to provide expert-level responses,' according to the company. GPT‑5 is available to all users, with Plus subscribers getting more usage, and Pro subscribers getting access to GPT‑5 pro, a version with extended reasoning for even more comprehensive and accurate answers. 'GPT‑5 is a unified system with a smart, efficient model that answers most questions, a deeper reasoning model (GPT‑5 thinking) for harder problems, and a real‑time router that quickly decides which to use based on conversation type, complexity, tool needs, and your explicit intent,' the company noted.
