Mars Meets The Moon As ‘Space Clouds' Gather: June's Night Sky

Forbes2 days ago

Each month, I pick out North America's celestial highlights for the week ahead (which also apply to mid-northern latitudes in the Northern Hemisphere). Check my main feed for more in-depth articles on stargazing, astronomy, eclipses and more.
Stargazers in the Northern Hemisphere have a complicated relationship with June. It's a great month to get outdoors to go hiking and camping, but with the solstice coming on June 20, the hours of true darkness are short.
So what's a stargazer to do? Stay up late and make those short nights count! Here's everything else you need to know about stargazing and the night sky in June 2025:
When: local moonrise during dusk on Tuesday, June 10 and Wednesday, June 11, 2025
Where: eastern horizon
Tonight's full strawberry moon will appear on the southeastern horizon just as the sun sets in the west, then hang low all night. This is its "lunar standstill," when it rises as far southeast as it ever does during its 18.6-year cycle. The moon actually reaches 100% illumination at 3:45 a.m. EDT on June 11.
When: after sunset on Monday, June 16, 2025
Where: western sky
In the west, after sunset tonight, two lights will shine very close to one another — reddish planet Mars and blueish star Regulus. The brightest star in the constellation Leo, 'the Lion,' Regulus, is 78 light-years distant. It and Mars will be less than a degree apart tonight and June 16.
When: before sunrise on Monday, June 23, 2025
Where: eastern sky
In the east-northeast, a slender waning crescent moon will be under half a degree from the Pleiades, a spectacular open cluster of stars also called the "Seven Sisters" and M45. As a bonus, Venus will shine brightly nearby.
When: any night in June
Where: high up in the eastern sky
June is the best time to point a small telescope at the constellation Hercules close to the bright star Vega. Also called M13, it's a dense ball of thousands of ancient stars that orbits in the halo of our Milky Way galaxy. It's about 22,000 light-years from the solar system.
When: after sunset on Friday, June 27, 2025
Where: western sky
If you've never seen the tiny planet Mercury, here's a great chance to see it with a moon at its spectacular best. A slender 9%-lit waxing crescent moon will shine to the upper-right of tiny Mercury, visible just above the western horizon.
When: June 30-July 21, 2025
Where: northern sky
During twilight, look to the northern sky from the Northern Hemisphere for high altitude noctilucent clouds, web-like "space clouds" that grow as ice crystals form around dust in the high atmosphere left by meteors.
When: after sunset on Sunday, June 29, 2025
Where: western sky
This is June's celestial highlight — a very close conjunction of the moon and Mars. Taking place after sunset in the west, the moon and Mars will appear less than a fifth of a degree apart. That's super close.
Wishing you clear skies and wide eyes.

Robot deals: Narwal Freo X Ultra and Freo Pro drop to record-low prices!

Jonathan Feist / Android Authority Are you looking for a robot vacuum and mop? They're the best way to keep your floors clean with little to no effort, and two of our favorite models are on sale right now, hitting new all-time low prices we've never seen before! Keep reading to learn more about the Narwal Freo X Ultra and Narwal Freo Pro. Buy the Narwal Freo X Ultra for just $549.99 ($350 off) Buy the Narwal Freo Pro for just $499.99 ($200 off) Both of these offers are available from Amazon and are labeled as 'limited time deals.' The discount is automatic, so simply add your favorite model to your cart and check out! Narwal Freo X Ultra Narwal Freo X Ultra Narwal Freo X Ultra Our floors have never looked cleaner Powerful suction, anti-clog dirt channels and brushes, LiDAR and laser sensors, and a convenient self-cleaning base station make the Narwal Freo X Ultra one of the best robot vacuums we've seen for home users. Safe and efficient operation for wood, tile, carpet, and nearly every floor surface in between. See price at Amazon Save $350.00 Limited Time Deal! For value per dollar, the Narwal Freo X Ultra is still my personal favorite robot vacuum and mop combo. It's literally the one I use. Sure, the newer Narwal Freo Z Ultra is better, but it is also significantly more expensive—it costs twice as much right now, to be exact. Also, that's only if you have an Amazon Prime subscription; it's more expensive if you don't! And while the Narwal Freo X Ultra isn't the latest, it's also not really that old, launched in early 2024. That said, the Narwal Freo X Ultra was the last premium offering from the brand, so it is very capable. It features a mighty 8,200Pa suction power. I've seen it pick up metal marbles with ease. Regular debris and dust will be no challenge. Additionally, the tri-laser system is really efficient at avoiding obstacles. I've had no issues with it in this department! One of my favorite things about this model is its mopping system. It's kind of life-changing. The two rotating mops rotate, effectively scrubbing your floors. My previous robot cleaners would just drag a rag across the floor. Not only that, but when the robot returns to the dock, the system will recognize how dirty the mops came back. The robot will continue going back to mop until the floors are actually clean. Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority While we are on the topic of the base, it is super convenient. The dock can store both clean and dirty water, and the app will let you know when it's time to dump or refill it. The detergent goes in the base, too, and it is dispensed automatically. Additionally, the base will wash and dry your mopping pads, keeping funky, humid smells at bay. The hands-off approach is amazing if you want a robot vacuum and mop that will require little maintenance on your end. The tangleless brush means you won't need to manually remove hair from it all the time, which is excellent news for those of us with long hair or pets. And the dust bin can store up to seven weeks of debris! I honestly rarely have to mess with it. I just dump the dirty water and refill the freshwater tank about once a week. Again, this is a brand-new all-time low price for this model. Get it while you can. You will not regret it! Narwal Freo Pro Narwal Freo Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo Narwal Freo Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop Combo LiDAR and more in a mid-range bot There are not many compromises in the Narwal Freo Pro to help bring the price down. Only a few controls in the base station, manual detergent addition, but still some of the best floor cleaning capabilities we've seen from a robot vacuum. See price at Amazon Save $200.00 Limited Time Deal! Now, if you want to save even more, the Narwal Freo Pro is a great robot, and it is also at a record-low price! It was released as a more affordable alternative to the brand's more expensive 2025 units, but it is actually very similar to the Narwal Freo X Ultra! Of course, the manufacturer made some sacrifices to reach a lower price, but it is actually better in some ways, too. Let's talk about the differences. For starters, the suction power gets upgraded to 8,500Pa, so it's slightly stronger. Something that catches my eye is that the newer front brushes are better at avoiding tangles, making it an even better option for those of us with long hair and pets! The rest of the experience is very similar in terms of features. The dock will wash and dry the mopping pads, obstacle detection is still outstanding, and you get the same seven-week debris collection time. Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority But, where are the downsides? Well, they honestly aren't many, and they aren't that annoying. The Narwal Freo Pro base doesn't have physical controls, so you'll need to rely on the app. That said, I have yet to use the physical controls on mine, so I personally wouldn't mind the lack of physical buttons. Additionally, it doesn't have automatic detergent dispensing. You'll need to throw in a tablet whenever you replace the freshwater tank. It's an extra little step, but definitely not a deal-breaker either. If I were to pay full price for any of these, I would honestly go for the Narwal Freo Pro. Its downsides aren't that bad, and it is actually better in some ways. That said, today's deals put them very close in price. I would probably pay the extra $50 for the Narwal Freo X Ultra, mainly for the automatic detergent dispensing. Again, these are both record-low prices, so go take advantage of these deals while you can! We don't see them sticking around for long. If you're not convinced by either of these, here's our list of the best robot vacuums!

Travel's Best Paid CEOs: Where They Rank

The pay for a dozen travel company CEOs in the S&P 500 attracted compensation greater than half of their peers in the S&P 500. How does the compensation of travel CEOs compare with peers in the S&P 500? The three highest-compensated CEOs of travel and travel-related companies in 2024 were Glenn Fogel of Booking Holdings ($44.8 million), Bob Iger of Disney ($41.1 million), and Uber's Dara Khosrowshahi ($39.4 million), according to the Wall Street Journal's annual survey of S&P 500 CEO pay. Fogel ranked 16th among all S&P 500 CEOs, Iger was 19th, and Khosrowshahi was 21st — placing all three in the top 25. We included Iger and Khosrowshahi in our list. Although Disney is a media and e

AirTag 2 Rumors: What We've Heard About Apple's Next Location Tracker

It's been four years since Apple introduced the AirTag, which is particularly long compared to how often the company refreshes other product categories. Rumors abound that Apple will finally announce a new version of its item tracker later this year. Introduced in 2021, these little trackers allow you to locate everyday items like your wallet or keys utilizing Apple's Find My app. This is useful in daily life, but it's especially helpful when traveling. In the years since the first AirTags arrived, existing trackers like those made from Tile and Samsung have continued to grow. Google launched its own Find My Device network, with multiple companies offering trackers that work with both Google's network and Apple's too. As Apple doesn't usually leak information about its products beforehand, we don't know much about the upcoming AirTag 2 yet. However, several rumors are floating around about it online, which we've compiled below. Apple/CNET AirTag 2 design There have been no rumors that the AirTag 2 will look too different from the original. It will likely have the same tiny circular shape that can fit easily into a pocket or compatible keychain loop. Some consumers have asked for physical changes like a built-in key hole or a flatter design -- which we've seen in rivals made by Tile and Chipolo -- but there's no indication that Apple will follow these suggestions. Similarly, the AirTag 2 will likely continue to use a replaceable CR2032 3-volt coin battery instead of transitioning to a rechargeable model. However, there have been reports that the current AirTag isn't always compatible with coin batteries that have a bitterant coating, so the company might alter it somewhat so that it will be. Rival trackers like this one from Chipolo include a built-in hole for attaching to keychains. Nelson Aguilar/CNET AirTag 2 features More importantly, however, the new AirTag 2 might be more tamper-proof. According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, the second-generation AirTag will be more difficult for wannabe stalkers to hack. The AirTag has come under fire as a potential tool for stalkers, so Apple introduced safety features like sound alerts when it's not around its registered owner. However, the speaker is apparently fairly easy to remove, which negates this effort. The idea is that the newer AirTag will have a speaker that is far more difficult to fiddle with. Another important upgrade is that the new AirTag could have a longer tracking range thanks to the second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is the technology that the AirTag uses to locate your stuff. (This chip is already in existing iPhones -- it was introduced with the iPhone 15.) The longer tracking range of the new chip means you can keep track of your belongings at an even greater distance since it has three times the range of the original. This, along with a new onboard wireless chip, would certainly make finding items easier. Last but not least, there are rumors that the new AirTag will integrate with Apple's Vision Pro augmented reality headset. It's not entirely clear what this means, but Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has theorized that the location-tracking capabilities of the AirTag could be part of a spatial computing concept. Now Playing: Apple's Find My vs. Android's Find My Device Network 09:08 AirTag 2 price So far, little has been said about the pricing of the second-gen AirTags. Currently, a single AirTag is $29 while a four-pack is $99. The AirTag 2 could retain the same price, but with the current on-and-off tariff situation, the cost is unclear. AirTag 2 release date It's widely rumored that the AirTag 2 will be released in the middle of 2025, probably in May or June. As Apple's annual WWDC event takes place in June, that date seems highly likely.
