Hall of Famer Terrell Owens calls Commanders WR Deebo Samuel 'fat'
Terrell Owens says that #Commanders WR Deebo Samuel is fat'He about two chicken nuggets from tipping the scale' 🤦♂️(via:@JankyRondo) pic.twitter.com/QIqBNmhOLq
Pro Football Hall of Famer Terrell Owens was always known for his outspoken personality. Never afraid to call out anyone, including his own quarterback, Owens often made as many headlines for his comments as he did his outstanding play on the field.
Owens is at it again, this time he targeted Washington Commanders wide receiver Terrell Owens. Courtesy of Commanders' fan @JankyRondo on X, here's Owens on video calling Samuel "fat."
Owens is smiling and laughing throughout the exchange, so it's difficult to tell if he's being serious or taking playful jabs at Samuel. "I love Deebo," Owens also said in the video.
However, Samuel is unlikely to appreciate Owens saying he was "about two chicken nuggets from tipping the scales."
Washington acquired Samuel in a March trade with the 49ers. The Commanders sent a fifth-round pick to San Francisco and reworked the final year on Samuel's existing contract. Earlier this month, a video of Samuel running a route during Washington's OTAs made the rounds on social media. Because Samuel was running the route at half speed — it was only one play — people made comments about Samuel's speed and his physical shape.
Former 49ers teammate George Kittle shut down all of the nonsense.
The Commanders are happy with Samuel. Coaches, teammates and GM Adam Peters have praised Samuel since his arrival and his participation in all of Washington's offseason activities.
As if Samuel didn't have enough to play for in 2025, you can bet Owens' remarks will serve as more motivation for the former Pro Bowl receiver.

Jerome Bettis discusses Chiefs TE Travis Kelce's return, reflects on Super Bowl XL
This week, Chiefs Wire's Ed Easton Jr. spoke to Pro Football Hall of Famer and Pittsburgh Steelers legend Jerome Bettis about his participation in this year's American Century Championship, which will take place July 9-13 at Edgewood Tahoe, his thoughts on Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce's return and his farewell game in Super Bowl XL. "I feel my game is trending right now, so I gotta as good a chance as any to have a better, better showing than last year," said Bettis regarding his training to compete in the American Century Championship. "My goal every year is to try to beat my best finish. I think some years ago, I finished 15th. So, that's my goal: to beat 15th. I've had a productive week, and I'm excited to go out there, spend some time with guys you don't normally get a chance to see, golf with them, and create some new friendships. I'm looking forward to it." Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ended speculation at the start of the offseason regarding his future after mulling retirement. He is focused on potentially one more Super Bowl run, and Bettis agrees, but it doesn't require him to put up Pro Bowl numbers. "So yes, maybe (Travis) Kelce is on his farewell tour, if you call it that. But I promise you, even if he wasn't there, they would still be a quality football team," said Bettis, "Kelce doesn't have to catch eight passes for them to be really good. If he doesn't play well, he'll find other ways to beat you." Bettis utilized his wisdom and leadership skills over statistics during his final season in the league and carried them through the journey to Super Bowl XL in his hometown of Detroit. "Yeah. It was different for me because I had never been there before, so I knew it was my last game, but this is why I came back. This is why I stayed. This is why I played the game I played to have an opportunity to win a championship," said Bettis, "The Super Bowl is in my hometown. It's everything I ever wanted. So, it wasn't like a big pressure on my back. It was more of the excitement of the moment. I've been waiting for this my whole career, and it's coming down to this moment. So I was excited about the opportunity." The Steelers defeated the Seattle Seahawks 21-10, securing Bettis' only Super Bowl title in his Hall of Fame career. He detailed his mindset throughout the moment and encouraged teammates to achieve the ultimate goal. "So I thought, let's go out, leave it all out here, and see what happens, and if we lose, I could tip my cap to those guys over there and say, hey, great job, and I can lead knowing that I did the best that I could do, and my whole goal when I got to Pittsburgh was to help lead this franchise back to another championship" said Bettis, "So, win, lose, or draw, I would have fulfilled. I thought my obligation as a player, as a leader on this team, is to help get this team back to a championship because that's the standard, and that's, I think, what every player on that team right now should be saying themselves. I helped get us there, and now we gotta go out there and win it so we'll have that moment we're all cherished for a lifetime." The annual tournament awards $750,000 in prize money, much of which the celebrity players donate to local and national charities. Over the years, nearly $8 million has been donated to non-profit causes. Network television exposure on NBC and a first-place prize of $150,000 make the celebrity tournament one of the most prestigious in the golf world. What is the best case for Jayden Daniels in 2025? And worst case?
The Washington Commanders have done everything possible to surround second-year quarterback Jayden Daniels with as much support and talent as possible. Washington brought back its entire offensive coaching staff, despite Kliff Kingsbury having teams interested in interviewing him for a head coaching position. In addition to Kingsbury and staff's return, general manager Adam Peters rebuilt the offensive line, trading for Pro Bowl tackle Laremy Tunsil and using a first-round pick on tackle Josh Conerly Jr. Peters also traded for former Pro Bowl wide receiver Deebo Samuel and re-signed both of Washington's top two tight ends, Zach Ertz and John Bates. Daniels was phenomenal as a rookie, improving throughout the season. He looked like a top-5 NFL quarterback in the postseason. Daniels is also committed to being great, both on and off the field. The term "sophomore slump" is often mentioned when discussing successful rookies in any sport. Daniels doesn't appear to be a candidate for a sophomore slump. But you never know. Henry McKenna of Fox Sports recently named what could go right — or wrong — for every NFC quarterback in 2025. What could go right: Daniels takes Washington to the Super Bowl. There were plenty of individual achievements for Daniels as a rookie — and team achievements for the Commanders. And now everyone is afraid Daniels & Co. will regress, because that's often what happens to teams that punch above their weight class. But sometimes a surprisingly good team finds a way to hold onto the ground it's gained, particularly with big offseason additions (LT Laremy Tunsil and WR Deebo Samuel). Given what Daniels did in Year 1, we'd be foolish to doubt that a Super Bowl is at least possible. That's the best-case scenario, and it's not impossible, considering how well the Commanders performed in 2024. Certainly, the Commanders will likely regress in some areas in 2025. Some things are not sustainable. However, Washington is more talented in 2025 and, if healthy, much better along the offensive line. If Daniels is as good as he was last season, or better, the Commanders are a legitimate Super Bowl contender if the defense improves. Now, for the bad. What could go wrong:The C.J. Stroud effect. After seeing what happened to Stroud in Year 2, there's a growing sense of anxiety for sophomore quarterbacks. So could Daniels be the latest QB to fall prey to that sophomore slump? Well, yeah, absolutely. Remember that star receiver Terry McLaurin is locked in a contract battle with Washington. We've seen negotiations influence training camp reps — and, in turn, negatively impact QB-WR rapport. It's hard to sustain success in the NFL. Daniels' second year might be yet another example of that. Many people use the term "sophomore slump" in reference to Stroud's 2024 season. However, if you examine the numbers, Stroud's downfall is often overstated. Yes, he took a step back, but he wasn't bad. Daniels may take a step back, but he also offers a different skill set than Stroud. I wouldn't worry too much about McLaurin. Washington will take care of him. For Daniels to be considered one of the elite QBs in only his second season, he'll need to avoid a similar regression.

Steelers send T.J. Watt to Commanders in wild trade hypothetical
The Steelers–T.J. Watt contract woes could carry on for a while longer — but what if Pittsburgh refuses to play along and cuts their losses before an agreement is reached? That is precisely the scenario fantasized by Fox Sports' David Helman — who was tasked with finding the best landing spots for each of the NFL minicamp holdouts. Advertisement According to Helman, while the idea of Pittsburgh sending Watt to the Commanders is highly unlikely, Washington's desperate need for a pass rush warrants the projection. He even acknowledged that trading star WR Terry McLaurin would open more 'financial wiggle room' for the Commanders to add a player of Watt's caliber. When discussing how the Steelers star defender would fit into the Commanders' defense, Helman argued the following: "Adding [Watt] to a pass rush that currently includes Frankie Luvu, Dorance Armstrong, Deatrich Wise, and Clelin Ferrell would upgrade the Washington pass rush from 'so-so' to outright dangerous." Watt could turn the Commanders into instant Super Bowl contenders — but unless Washington offered McLaurin and a haul of premium draft picks, trading away a future Hall of Fame defender feels like an on-field recipe for disaster — and a PR nightmare waiting to happen.
