Patna: A 45-year-old Tibetan citizen was apprehended by
Sashastra Seema Bal
(SSB) while he was attempting to cross India-Nepal international border (IB) illegally through an unauthorised location close to Galgalia area in Kishanganj late on Thursday evening, a day after four Chinese nationals were arrested from Raxaul IB in East Champaran district for not having Indian visas. The Tibetan national, identified as Lhundup Dechen, was initially stopped by the 41st Battalion of the SSB in Kishanganj, while he was attempting to cross over to Nepal via an unauthorised road near border pillar number 101.
He presented an Aadhaar card with a Karnataka address and a PAN card but struggled to communicate in Hindi, speaking only in Tibetan, following which he was arrested, an SSB statement said on Friday.According to information received by the security agencies, the Tibetan national had entered India on April 24, 2025, through the Birganj-Raxaul transit route on the India-Nepal border from Farping near Kathmandu in Nepal, where he had been residing since 2024. "From Raxaul, he had travelled by train to Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh, via Chandigarh. In his attempt to return to Nepal on May 8, he first arrived at Bagdogra at 9.30am on a flight from Delhi. From there, he reached Bhatgaon near Galgalia to go to Nepal, when he attempted to cross the border through an unauthorized route," said an SSB officer. An investigation revealed that Dechen had previously been living in India since 2000 in a Tibetan refugee camp at Mundgod in Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka. His Aadhaar card lists his address as Drepung Gomang Monastery, Mundgod.During questioning, it was revealed that someone promised him help in crossing the border through the rural routes of Dangujote, a bordering village between Kishanganj, Bihar, and West Bengal. As per protocol, Tibetan nationals are required to obtain an exit permit when travelling from India to Nepal, which can only be done through designated check-posts. However, this individual was attempting to cross the border through an unauthorized route without any valid documents. Currently, security agencies are interrogating the Tibetan national and investigating his activities and contacts.

Probe launched against Tripura Cong leader for ‘defaming' CM

Agartala: Police on Monday launched a search against Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) spokesperson Md Sahajan Islam for alleged defaming narratives and expressions against chief minister Manik Saha on Sunday night in a Facebook live. The officer-in-charge of East Agartala police station, Rana Chatterjee, said Sahajan's deliberation has triggered political unrest and hurt the communal sentiment of the people. He had made derogatory comments on the professional and personal life of the CM that is completely illegal. "Indian law doesn't permit the citizen to make a personal attack on the head of a state," Chatterjee said, adding that a specific case has been registered against Islam, who is absconding, based on a complaint and police have also launched an investigation. He allegedly made several posts on social media in communal lines alleging that saffron cadres obstructed the celebration of Bakri Eid in several locations of the state, and in a few places, they stopped the transportation of cows.

Pak couple dead in flat, cops suspect murder-suicide

Navi Mumbai: A 45-year-old Pakistani national is suspected to have stabbed to death his wife, also a Pakistani, with a kitchen knife and then died by suicide at their rental flat in Kharghar on Monday. The wife had stab injuries on the neck, back and shoulder. Deepak Surve, senior inspector, Kharghar police, said the man, Notan Das alias Sanjay Sachdeva, was accused of assaulting his wife, Sapna Das (35), in front of some neighbours last month, but the woman refused to lodge a complaint against him. The couple arrived in India with their two minor children on long-term visa more than six months ago. Sapna's sister, Sangeeta Makhija, who is an Indian citizen, took a flat on rent for them in Dolphine Pride Society in Sector 34, Kharghar. Makhija was reportedly taking care of their financial needs. A senior police officer said following the recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, the couple was in the process of completing the administrative formalities of returning home. Surve said when the younger child returned from his coaching class on Monday, he found the main door locked from the inside. His sibling was not at home either. "There was no response to repeated knocks. The child sought the help of a neighbour, who entered the flat through a common balcony. The neighbour found the couple in a pool of blood," said Surve. After last month's alleged assault, Makhija had sought police's help but they expressed helplessness after Sapna refused to file a complaint.

AIYF leaders demand cancellation of IPL matches due to negative impact on youth and rise in betting

CPI affiliated All India Youth Federation (AIYF) Visakhapatnam district unit leaders and activists have demanded cancellation of IPL cricket matches across the country as they are spoiling the lives of the youth, especially students. The latest incident in which 11 youths died due to a stampede in Bengaluru is an example of the commercial sports programme and its direct impact on the youth and their lives, the activists said. Speaking to reporters at the Gandhi statue here on Monday, AIYF district president Y. Rambabu and secretary Achyutharao said that corporate companies have spoiled cricket by luring players with money to create a special cricket division called IPL. It has become a business event of these corporate bigwigs. In the name of sports, these IPL owners are running a sports programme where the youth and students are targetted. The youth are addicted to this commercial entertainment programme, and suffer huge financial and career losses, they added. In those days, government authorities used to organise One Day International (ODI) matches between countries, and the players and matches were entirely from a particular country, so those players inspired Indians. But in the case of these IPL matches, there are rivalries with Indian players when they represent different IPL franchises. They lamented that this creates an unhealthy situation in the minds of the youth. More importantly, during IPL matches, the youth fall for cricket betting. They said that many middle-class people are suffering from this evil act.
