We tried McDonald's Big Arch and there's something you should know

McDonald's newest burger comes in at almost £8
This week McDonald's launched the Big Arch burger along with a few fan favourite - and we go our hands on it the second it dropped. Returning to restaurants across the UK and Ireland, the Big Arch burger made its return alongside the much-loved Toffee Crisp McFlurry, Cheesy McCrispy, Halloumi Fries and a Toffee and Apple Pie. So what did we think of it, and is it worthy of the hype?
Biting into the Big Arch, it was nothing but an immediate "yay" from my partner and I. We both loved it and my partner could not stop raving about it.
The burgers were juicy (there are two patties in each) and the sauce was insanely mouth-watering. The iconic burger is stacked with two juicy 100% British and Irish beef patties, white cheddar cheese slices, crispy onions, fresh onions, shredded lettuce, crunchy pickles, and finished with a generous layer of signature Big Arch sauce.
So is it worth the price? I would say so, yes. The Big Arch alone is £7.99 meanwhile a medium meal is £9.99 and a large coming in at £10.79. Whilst it seems expensive initially, you're getting a pretty jam-packed burger and I could easily go to other places, pay more and walk away feeling like I need more food.
Another fan-favourite also made a comeback by popular demand, the Cheesy McCrispy. This burger features a 100% chicken breast fillet with a crispy coating, topped with lettuce, crispy onions, tangy pink pickled onion chutney, bacon, Emmental cheese, and a rich deluxe cheese sauce.
This was full of flavour and the only thing I would want is a dollop more sauce. Other than that, it was a pretty good burger. The chicken wasn't dry or hard, it was soft, fell apart and there was plenty of bacon.
Again back by popular demand is the Toffee Crisp McFlurry. While it tasted good, we expected it to be swirled with Toffee Crisp pieces, as advertised, and topped with toffee sauce.
However our McFlurry was half full with a little bit of sauce and no bits.
This is the ultimate sweet treat. We split this in half and I very much regret it because it was so good. It was rich, sweet and packed a punch. the warmth of the flavours and its crispy outside made for a unique treat.
We also had a side of halloumi fries and they were great, especially paired with the sweet chilli sauce. I can't remember the last time I had halloumi but it made me want to eat more of it.

McDonald's confirms plans to revamp Cross Hands restaurant

Outbuildings An application has been submitted for the demolition of three outbuildings and the construction of three similar-sized outbuildings at Brynllan, Cilycwm, Llandovery. The buildings are proposed to be on a 0.10-hectare site. They will be made with timber-cladded walls, corrugated onduline bitumen sheet roofs, and timber windows and doors. There will also be a compacted stone vehicle access and hardstanding, as well as low-energy, downward-pointing lights. Quarry works An application has been submitted for works to a quarry site at Garreg Fawr, Llanwrda. The existing/historic quarry will be developed by excavating benches into the hillside in a north-westerly direction. It is anticipated that the finished quarry level will comprise a series of up to five benches. Material sourced from the quarry will be used in the upgrade of forest roads within the Caeo forest block to facilitate the clear-up of wind-blown timber caused during Storm Darragh. The use of NRW-owned aggregate in NRW forest blocks is said to be a sustainable and cost-effective way to bring timber to market and conduct quality forest management activities. Access to the site is via the Natural Resources Wales forest road network. The proposed depth of the excavation would be 18 metres but no waste will be imported to the site. Variations of conditions An application has been submitted for the variation of conditions 9, 10, 11 and 12 on applications E/28564 and PL/09579 (two detached dwellings and garages) at land fronting 9, 11 and 13 Ceidrim Road, Garnant. The applicant wants to see the amendment of approved plans and removal of code for sustainable homes conditions. McDonald's refurbishment An application has been submitted for work at McDonald's, Heol Parc Mawr, Cross Hands. The application includes minor refurbishment of the restaurant to include a 0.86 square metre extension incorporating updated drive-thru booth windows, the redecoration of windows and doors and a replacement 2.4m high cage corral. The existing remote bin store is to be extended and finished with close board fencing. New patio furniture is to replace the existing furniture with associated works to the site. Non-material amendment An application has been submitted for a non-material amendment for work at land adjoining Fountain Road, Llannon. The non-material amendment is to S/32126 (changes to approved drawings). Extension and alterations An application has been submitted for a single-storey extension to a house and general alterations to the dwelling at The Vicarage, Talley, Llandeilo. The internal alterations will see the ground floor layout changed to include an open-plan kitchen, dining area and family lounge, a utility area, shower room, living room and lounge. Shed and fence An application has been submitted for the construction of a wooden shed and fence at Meardy Farmhouse Cottage, Talaris, Llandeilo. This will include the installation of a 1.2m high, 3-bar stock fence. The shed will provide essential storage for tools and equipment needed to maintain the property and surrounding land. The fence is intended to secure a dog and to clearly mark the boundaries, while remaining appropriate to the rural setting. The shed will be timber-clad with a felt or EPDM pitched roof and timber windows and doors. The fencing will be a 3-bar post and rail stock fence, consistent with agricultural boundary treatments in the area. Retention of stables An application has been submitted for the retention of stables at Cefn Gorwydd Farm, Cwmfferws Road, Tycroes. The site is an equine centre. Work to create the stables began on April 1, 2025, but has not been completed. The stables are made of timber walls and doors and a galvanised metal sheet roof. The building will include six stables and a storage area. A bird box will be put on the stables as part of the biodiversity enhancement measures. Measures will be taken to minimise light pollution to reduce any impact on nocturnal fauna such as bats and moths. Any lighting within the rear garden will be in accordance with the guidance provided by the Bat Conservation Trust. Appropriate ground-facing, energy-saving lighting will be used, on timers. There will be no light spillage into landscape areas such as trees and hedgerows on site will not be affected therefore allowing dark corridors to be maintained for nocturnal wildlife.

'I tried Morrisons and Asda pizza - one is better than Domino's and Pizza Hut'

I'd gladly ditch Domino's or Pizza Hut for one of these tasty meals in a heartbeat As a kid, pizza night was sometimes a rollercoaster of emotions. When my mum announced we were having the savoury treat for tea, I always got excited - until I realised it wasn't the takeaway kind, and instead was a supermarket own-brand offering. ‌ But, as an adult, I can appreciate how these fresh and easy meals are just as good. And, if you don't mind the fact you've got to cook it yourself, it can actually be much cheaper than ordering a Pizza Hut or Domino's. ‌ Whenever it's time for a big family party—or just a simple night in—we often head to the pizza counter. But it's easy to fall into a routine and rarely branch out from what you are used to. ‌ So, I wanted to see if my local Asda was giving me the best value and experience - or was it worth heading to the next town over for Morrisons? These are the only two supermarkets in the UK that still have a 'make-your-own' pizza counter after Sainsbury's axed the service alongside its patisserie as part of a larger plan to simplify the business and reduce costs. I tried both Asda and Morrisons - with one a clear winner over the other (for me). I went to Asda at about 5pm on a reasonably quiet weekday - and it took about 15 minutes to queue up and have the pizza handed to me. In that time, I had plenty of chances to look over the offers they had with a £5.98 medium offer, including two pizzas and a selected drink. The large offer felt like a better value. It included two 14-inch pizzas, two selected sides (mozzarella sticks, garlic mushrooms, and spicy onion rings), and two dips (no drink) for £11.98. Having cooked and shared it amongst my family, nobody was overly thrilled with the basic cheese feast, which had an average sauce-to-cheese ratio. However, that might just be because it is our go-to—but the Morrisons experience won me over from the very beginning. I'd rarely shop at Morrisons because other shops were much closer and more convenient, but I might start making a special trip over for the pizza counter from now on. At first, I thought the counter was closed because there were no ready-made pizzas that shoppers could just grab and go. ‌ But, the McDonald's-style touch screen soon caught my eye, and I began making my order with this, and it also pointed out what offers I could get too. After picking my options, the machine gave a ticket and told me to come back in 10 minutes for my pizzas. Compared to Asda, this felt like a real game-changer and I can imagine it'd be a real time saver when you're also coming in to do a big shop as well. I also noticed that Morrisons had a few unique toppings to pick as well like pickled onions, butternut squash, ham hock tuna (what a combo!). It also appeared to cut down on waste as the staff weren't making so many pizzas that could ultimately never get chosen. I was worried at first that Morrisons looked less 'cheesy' than Asda's - but I was convinced otherwise once it had fully cooked. The cheese slices had melted in spots, offering a really tasty experience on top of a really rich tomato base. Even though the pizza itself (£5) was 2p more expensive than Asda, it certainly made up for it in terms of quality and overall experience that starts in the shop.
