Drake Just Gave Bitcoin Its Biggest Pop Culture Moment Yet

Gizmodo05-07-2025
Bitcoin just got its biggest shoutout in pop culture yet — from Drake.
In a surprise drop on the night of July 4th, the hip-hop titan unleashed his latest track, 'What Did I Miss.' More than just another reflective banger, the Canadian superstar's new song injects Bitcoin, the world's most famous cryptocurrency, directly into the mainstream cultural conversation, sixteen years after its inception.
The track, which premiered during a YouTube stream titled 'ICEMAN EPISODE ONE' where Drake plays a worker on his lunch break, delves into the raw emotions of betrayal. In the aftermath of his seismic 2024 feud with Kendrick Lamar, a rivalry that gripped the world, Drake turns his attention to those he once considered allies. He likens their shifting loyalties to the unpredictable volatility of Bitcoin, giving the digital asset an unexpected, high-profile shoutout.
The song's chorus immediately sets the stage for Drake's disillusionment:
'Last time I looked to my right, you n****s was standing beside me. How can some people I love hang around pussies who try me? Let's go. What did I miss?'
It's in the first verse, however, that Drake explicitly draws the parallel to Bitcoin, using its infamous price swings to illustrate the sudden turns of his former friends. One moment they're with him, the next they're against him, a stark reflection of Bitcoin's rollercoaster trajectory.
The pivotal lines read:
'You switched on the guys and supported a hater, let's go. What's the getback for niggas? It's TBD. I look at this shit like a BTC. Could be down this week, then I'm up next week.'

— Complex Music (@ComplexMusic) July 5, 2025This isn't Drake's first dance with Bitcoin, although his relationship with the cryptocurrency has been more about high-stakes gambling than long-term investment. While his personal BTC holdings remain unconfirmed, Drake has a well-documented history of making massive Bitcoin wagers on major sporting events. In 2024 alone, he lost over $1 million in BTC after two ill-fated bets on the NBA Finals and Stanley Cup Finals. He famously backed the Dallas Mavericks for the NBA title and the Edmonton Oilers for the NHL's Stanley Cup, both of whom lost to the Boston Celtics and the Florida Panthers respectively.
Drake also maintains an endorsement deal with the crypto gambling platform Stake, where he frequently places large bets using Bitcoin, further cementing his direct ties to the digital asset.
'What Did I Miss?' serves as a potent reflection, with Drake confronting the shifting loyalties and betrayals he experienced following the intense rap feud of 2024. He questions how individuals he once championed through collaborations, tours, and personal connections ultimately aligned themselves with his adversaries. The repeated refrain, 'What did I miss?', powerfully conveys both his disbelief and a profound introspection, as he attempts to grasp when and why these relationships fractured.
Drake doesn't need to say he's a crypto influencer. His lyrics do the work. Bitcoin as betrayal. Crypto as chaos. A decentralized stand-in for loyalty lost and regained. It's also a major pop culture moment for Bitcoin, which has long sought mainstream validation beyond tech bros and Twitter charts. Now, it has one of the biggest rappers in the world referencing it to explain his pain.
With one verse, Drake might have done more to make Bitcoin emotionally legible than most crypto CEOs have in years.

Fleetwood Mac's Rumours gets a very special 50th anniversary release – including a surprise format

Fleetwood Mac's tenth studio album is getting three new special releases to mark its 50th anniversary year. On 8th August, a Blu-ray Audio disc with a new Dolby Atmos mix will arrive alongside two brand-new limited-edition vinyl as part of the label Rhino's series of high-end reissues. This is the second of the band's albums to be remixed in Atmos for Blu-ray Audio, following Rumours last year. The mix by Chris James (who also mixed Rumours and Tusk as well as Prince's Purple Rain in Atmos) promises to deliver 'a fully immersive experience' of the breakthrough album. The Blu-ray Audio also includes a traditional 5.1 surround mix by original producer Ken Caillat and Claus Trelby. The record release, meanwhile, is part of the Rhino High Fidelity collection and comes in two versions: one is limited to 5000 individually numbered copies, while another is limited to only 2000 copies and includes two replica 7-inch singles featuring the singles Over My Head backed with Rhiannon, and Say You Love Me backed with Blue Letter. The vinyl has been mastered by Kevin Gray, who was also behind the Rumours 45rpm cut, and cut directly from the original analogue master tapes before being pressed on 180g wax. By 1975, the year the Billboard 200 chart-topping album was released, Fleetwood Mac already had a storied history, of course, what with founder Peter Green's era, numerous subsequent personnel changes, and a temporary disbandment behind it. But it was just before then that Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Knicks joined the Mick Fleetwood, John McVie and Christine McVie lineup, and, beginning with the self-titled album, the band was transformed into the iconic group we remember today. As featured in the new liner notes by music journalist Anthony DeCurtis, Buckingham recalls the energy surrounding that period: 'I think we all felt that we had grabbed ahold of something and that it was going to take us wherever it was going to take us.' He adds, 'It was a great sign that we were destined for something.' MORE: I watched every Star Wars film ever made – here's what I learned Quick! AEW stars Adam Copeland, Christian Cage dish on surprise appearances, next chapter in their story

All Elite Wrestling stars Adam Copeland and Christian Cage made their impacts felt across the pro wrestling world over the weekend. Copeland returned at All In: Texas on Saturday to save Cage, whose real name is Jay Reso, from a beatdown as his stablemates Nick Wayne, Nick's mother Shayna and Kip Sabian turned on him following a match against Bobby Lashley and Shelton Benjamin. Copeland came out to the roar of the crowd. "That will never get old. It really won't," Copeland told Fox News Digital. "And I've learned over the years to just enjoy those moments and not get too bogged down in, 'Should I run straight or…' No, just enjoy it and let the audience enjoy it too, and that's what this whole business has always been about, or supposed to be, is to have fun — as an audience member and a performer too even though it hurts a lot." Copeland described the whirlwind feeling going from sitting at home and reading a book to the electric crowd noise that hit him in the face when he appeared at Globe Life Field. "It will never get old, and if you could bottle it, that feeling is just amazing." Cage was awaiting a chair shot to the face when Copeland came out. "Like he said, it's great," Cage said. "When we walk out there, in a sea of people, like Adam said, you have to take it in because you never know when it could be the last time. So, you always have to appreciate those moments. And as a performer too, when you've been gone for a while, you're always kind of in your own head like, 'How many people are actually going to care if I come back?' And when you hear a reaction like that, it's very validating. It was nice to hear." Before Cage performed at All In: Texas on Saturday, he made a surprising appearance at Ring of Honor's event, Supercard of Honor. It was Cage's first appearance at a Ring of Honor event in nearly 20 years. He congratulated Wayne in the ring as the young pro wrestler retained his Ring of Honor World Television Championship. "It was a last-minute thing," he explained. "I walked out there to completely surprise the family. I got a surprise the next night — that's another story. But it was cool. Hardcore wrestling fans like that, it's always cool to walk out in those moments, especially when it's not expected. I hid in the back and walked out there — it was pretty cool." Copeland and Cage will now embark on a new storyline that could bring them back as a tag team. After Copeland saved Cage from a beatdown, he told his longtime friend to "go find yourself." Copeland told Fox News Digital he hoped to get to tell a "layered story" over the next weeks and months. "That's the great thing about having 40 years of history with each other because we have so much history to be able to pull from, but also more than that," he said. "We're two entirely different performers than we were before. I'd like to think we're better all-around performers than we were before. That's exciting. And really, to be able to possibly revisit something, again it's fun, which is the whole idea of this. … I hope that this is what it will be for the audience is fun." Cage added that he didn't want to take this next chapter for granted. "There was a time this was taken away from both of us. For us to get back in the ring and to be able to, when Adam first came to AEW as opponents, and then potentially we'll see where this goes as far as tag team goes, but just to be able to appreciate every moment of it because at one point it looked like neither of us were going to get this opportunity again. To kind of even have this moment, just to kind of embrace it and take it all in." Follow Fox News Digital's sports coverage on X and subscribe to the Fox News Sports Huddle newsletter.
