MaxPreps Launches Game of the Week to Spotlight High School Sports Powerhouses
EL DORADO HILLS, Calif., Aug. 7, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — MaxPreps, America's source for high school sports, has announced the launch of its highly anticipated 'Game of the Week' content and broadcast series, a showcase of the country's biggest high school sports matchups. Starting Friday, Aug. 15, 2025, audiences nationwide can experience the excitement of high school football through behind-the-scenes content, exclusive player highlights, and live broadcasts.
Launching this fall with high school football, MaxPreps Game of the Week will spotlight 12 national showdowns. Each week, MaxPreps will deliver exclusive behind-the-scenes content that captures the storylines, passion, players, and communities that define Friday nights – from standout athletes to iconic stadiums – available exclusively on MaxPreps' social channels and MaxPreps.com.
Coverage each week culminates with a live broadcast of the game on Friday night, with hosts Zack Poff, MaxPreps National Football Editor and Jeff Kurtz of the NFHS Network, who is entering his 23rd season of high school sports broadcasting. All games will be streamed live at MaxPreps.com, MaxPreps YouTube, and NFHS Network – the #1 source for live and on-demand high school sports with more than 500K games broadcasted each year.

Aug. 15 – No. 4 Grayson at Collins Hill
Ranked No. 4 in the Preseason MaxPreps Top 25, Grayson has won four Georgia state titles since 2011 and produced a steady stream of college and NFL players. Collins Hill is coming off an 11-win season and is best known as the high school home of 2024 Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter.
Aug. 22 – No. 14 Mission Viejo at No. 16 Santa Margarita
Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer makes make his head coaching debut as his Santa Margarita squad hosts Mission Viejo in a battle of Southern California perennial powers.
Defending national champion Mater Dei, Bishop Gorman and De La Salle are among other marquee programs lined up for appearances on Game of the Week. The complete schedule will be announced in the coming weeks.

Polls close in election for St. Paul City Council Ward 4
Polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday night in the election for the Ward 4 seat on the St. Paul City Council, though results were not expected until later in the night. Ward 4 is in northwestern St. Paul and includes all or part of five neighborhoods: Hamline-Midway, Merriam Park, St. Anthony Park, and parts of Macalester-Groveland and Como. Former City Council member Mitra Jalali vacated the seat in March. Mayor Melvin Carter appointed Matt Privratsky to fill the seat until the special election. Here's who was on the ballot: • Chauntyll Allen, a member of the St. Paul school board and a leader of Black Lives Matter Twin Cities. • Molly Coleman, founder of progressive court reform nonprofit People's Parity Project. • Cole Hanson, a statewide online education coordinator who teaches nutrition to recipients of federal food assistance who is endorsed by the Twin Cities Democratic Socialists of America. • Carolyn Will, founder of CW Marketing and Communications, a former TV newscaster and opponent of the city's proposed Summit Avenue bikeway. The winner of the special election will take the seat and represent Ward 4 through the November 2028 election. Under St. Paul's ranked-choice voting system, voters will be able to rank candidates in order of preference. There was no primary election. The race is officially non-partisan, and the St. Paul Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party did not make any endorsements this summer as it works to rebuild itself. A winner could emerge late Tuesday. However, if no candidate wins an absolute majority on election night — 50% plus one of the vote — election officials will begin a reallocation process. St. Paul voters rank candidates by choice on their ballots. If one candidate gets a simple majority, they win. But if there's no clear winner, officials will eliminate the candidate with the fewest first-choice votes and award votes to the second choice listed on the ballot. This process is repeated until one candidate has 50% support If reallocation is needed, the process is tentatively scheduled for Friday, Aug. 15, according to Ramsey County spokesman Casper Hill. Residents at the polls Tuesday named a variety of local issues on their minds this year, including affordable housing, bike lanes, road quality and property taxes. Como resident Jeanne Baumann said she wanted more affordable accommodations for unhoused people in the city instead of 'giant apartment buildings that they can't afford.' Hamline-Midway resident Annie Kuhn said she was concerned with rising housing costs and property taxes when ranking candidates. 'My one kid is probably going to be able to buy a house, the other one probably never, ever will,' Kuhn said. 'It's just ridiculous that housing costs have spiraled so much.' Val Woelfel, who has lived in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood for 30 years, said one of her voting priorities was city development issues, such as the vacant CVS on the corner of Snelling and University avenues 'sucking the energy out of the neighborhood.' Como resident Karen Lenander said she prioritized candidates who opposed cutting down trees in historic neighborhoods to create more bike paths. Como resident Gary Grave agreed, saying city bike paths 'are used four months out of the year and then block traffic.' Merriam Park resident Dylan Brooks said road quality was a top issue. 'City Council can help increase patrolling for police, then also they control how road maintenance is managed,' Brooks said. 'So those are kind of the two biggest things that I looked at.' Merriam Park resident Jeff Fugina said he wants a moderate viewpoint to the council, which he believes has 'drifted way to one side in recent years.' Hamline-Midway resident Eric Gustafson said he didn't feel like the policy positions of the four candidates were vastly different, and he voted for candidates he thought best understood the 'slow process' of implementing new policy. 'If I was looking at one thing or another, it was how I thought they would work to get things done,' he said. Kathyrn Kovalenko contributed to this story. Bhim Kohli's teenage killer to have sentence reviewed at Court of Appeal
A teenage boy who killed elderly dog walker Bhim Kohli is set to have his sentence reviewed at the Court of Appeal on Wednesday. Mr Kohli, 80, was punched and kicked, slapped in the face with a shoe and racially abused in an attack in Franklin Park, Braunstone Town, near Leicester, on September 1 last year, and died the next day. The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was convicted of manslaughter and sentenced to seven years' custody in June, when he was aged 15. The Attorney General's Office (AGO) announced in July that the Solicitor General, Lucy Rigby, had referred the sentence to the Court of Appeal under the unduly lenient sentence scheme. Lawyers for the teenager will also make a bid to have the sentence reduced at the same hearing. Following a six-week trial at Leicester Crown Court, the boy was convicted of manslaughter but cleared of murder. A 13-year-old girl, who also cannot be named, was convicted alongside him. She encouraged the attack by filming parts of it while laughing, with video clips showing the balaclava-clad boy hitting Mr Kohli with a shoe. The girl was sentenced to a three-year youth rehabilitation order by Mr Justice Turner, but her sentence has not been referred to the Court of Appeal. Mr Kohli's children found him lying on the ground in agony, when he told his daughter that he had been called a 'Paki' during the attack, the court heard in the trial. Jurors also heard the boy say in his evidence that he had a 'tussle' with Mr Kohli over his slider shoe before he slapped the elderly man with it out of 'instinct', which caused the pensioner to fall to his knees, but that he denied kicking or punching him. In a letter written by the boy to a woman who had worked with him at the residential unit where he was being looked after, he wrote: 'I f****** hate what I did. I regret it so much. 'I have flashbacks of that day and it just upsets me. I kinda just needed anger etc releasing.' Mid Leicestershire MP Peter Bedford and the MP for South Leicestershire, Alberto Costa, wrote to the AGO in June asking for the sentences to be reviewed. A spokesperson for the AGO said last month that Ms Rigby was 'appalled by this violent, cowardly attack on an innocent man'.
