QM announces engaging public programs for LATINOAMERICANO exhibition
According to QM's press release, the programs will enable the public to engage in a diverse range of activities, including curator-led tours and a literature series featuring fiction, poetry, and essays written by renowned Latin American authors, offering a valuable opportunity to deepen understanding and appreciation of Latin American culture and artistic expression.
It adds that the public will be able to discover over 170 exceptional artworks in the LATINOAMERICANO exhibition through guided and curator-led tours, in English and Spanish, where visitors will delve into the rich tapestry of modern and contemporary Latin American art. These insightful tours provide a deeper understanding of the diverse cultural narratives, social contexts, and influential artistic movements that have shaped Latin America's artistic landscape, offering a unique perspective on the continent's vibrant creative history.
QM's will also hold the Palabras y Pinceles - Literature Salon to allow participants to immerse themselves in Latin American literature, engaging in thoughtful dialogue with the visual art showcased in the LATINOAMERICANO exhibition. Each session will feature a curated reading of fiction, poetry, or essays by prominent Latin American authors, offering deeper insights into the cultural and artistic themes that define the region.
This landmark exhibition represents the first large-scale presentation of modern and contemporary Latin American art in the West Asia and North Africa region. Co-curated byآQatar Museums and the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires (Malba), LATINOAMERICANO is a key component of the Qatar Argentina and Chile 2025 Year of Culture.

Qatar Reads brings Arabic storytelling to Buenos Aires
Tribune News Network Doha Minister of Culture of Buenos Aires, Gabriela Ricardes and Counsellor at the Ministry of the State of Qatar in Argentina, Ali Al-Binali, officially inaugurated the 'Kalila wa Dimna' exhibition as part of Qatar Reads' participation in the Qatar–Argentina 2025 Year of Culture. Organised by Qatar Reads, a national initiative under Qatar National Library, the exhibition and accompanying cultural session marked a major highlight in this year's cross-cultural programming. The event brought together children, families, educators, and dignitaries to celebrate the power of storytelling and its role in establishing dialogue between cultures. Qatar Reads aims to cultivate a love of reading in Qatar through Nationwide programs and campaigns. It has extended its reach through partnerships with the Years of Culture initiative by promoting reciprocal literary exchange: while Arabic stories are shared abroad, Argentinian tales will be introduced to readers in Qatar later this year. This year's collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires brings the classical Arabic fables of Kalila wa Dimna to libraries across Argentina in Spanish. Themselves an embodiment of cross-cultural power, the fables, originating in ancient India, translated into Arabic in the 8th century, and passed on through Islamic and European literary traditions, are known for imparting moral lessons through talking animals and cunning plots. The exhibition, on view from August 6 to October 31, features 12 newly commissioned miniature-style paintings by Qatari artist Wadha Al Athba. Created with traditional materials such as indigo, saffron, and gold leaf, the artworks blend the aesthetics of classical Islamic art with contemporary visual storytelling. These twelve artworks were also featured in the Spanish edition of Kalila wa Dimna, published by HBKU Press. As part of the ongoing collaboration, Qatar Reads will be distributing 1,000 reading packages children across Argentina. The opening event at Biblioteca Ricardo Güiraldes included an immersive storytelling and arts workshop with 30 public school students from across Buenos Aires. Children enjoyed readings from the Spanish-language version of Kalila wa Dimna, participated in hands-on creative activities, and received custom-designed reading kits to continue their literary journey at home. Qatar's Ambassador to Chile and Argentina His Excellency Batal Mojab Al-Dosari commented earlier: 'The initiative reminds us that diplomacy can be expressed in many languages, but it is most enduring when written through stories that will resonate for generations and by sharing Qatari literature with Argentinian children, we plant the seeds of empathy and mutual understanding.' Qatar Reads has also made copies of the book available at the National Library of Argentina (Biblioteca Nacional), giving more children and families in Buenos Aires access to this timeless fable. Minister Ricardes echoed this sentiment, noting literature's power to bridge cultures: 'Hosting Qatar Reads in Buenos Aires reaffirms our belief that stories communicate universal values of kindness, courage, and wisdom. These values transcend borders, helping our children build a common cultural language through books.' Fatema Majed Al Malki, Qatar Reads Manager, commented, 'At Qatar Reads, we believe every story shared brings us one step closer to understanding. Today's session in Buenos Aires gives children the opportunity to see themselves in new narratives and to discover the beauty of cultural exchange. A child who reads across cultures grows into an adult who leads with empathy, nurtured by the seeds of curiosity and connection planted through these exchanges.' The illustrated edition of Kalila wa Dimna will be distributed widely to schools and libraries throughout Argentina. Renowned Qatar-based writer Asif Shafi publishes second edition of his bilingual poetry collection
Well known and acclaimed Qatar-based poet Asif Shafi has released the second edition of his bilingual poetry collection Strangers for Centuries (Sadiyun Se Ajnabi) featuring verses in both English and Urdu. The 144-page collection, featuring 63 selected poems and ghazals by Asif, has been published by Zarbaft Publications, Lahore. First published in 2011, the book has been translated into English by noted writer Salim Ahmad Siddiqi. Asif has dedicated the book to his beloved wife, Ainy Asif. 'In the second edition, we have exclusively included remarks from renowned scholars and writers such as Professor So Yamane of Osaka University, Japan; Dr Ali Bayat, Associate Professor in the Department of Urdu Language and Literature, University of Tehran, Iran; Prof Dr Anwar Rizwi, former Chairperson of the Department of Persian, Aligarh Muslim University, India; and Dr Nazia Jaffo Khan. The rest of the content remains unchanged,' remarked Asif who hails from Dharanawala city in District Bahawalnagar in Pakistan. Asif is celebrated as a distinctive and sensitive poet, renowned for his evocative exploration of love, separation, reflection, and emotion. This collection transcends mere translation—it stands as a profound literary endeavor to convey the delicate essence of love to a global audience. Over a creative journey spanning three decades, Asifhas consistently placed love and the spectrum of human emotions at the heart of his poetic expression. Reimagining these themes in a contemporary context, his work reflects a delicate aesthetic, emotional authenticity, and intellectual depth—qualities that collectively offer a renewed dimension to the landscape of Urdu poetry. Asif is a professional planning engineer who graduated from the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore, in 1997. He began his career at Petrochemical Industries in Faisalabad, where he served for over eight years. Prior to relocating to Qatar, he gained valuable experience working in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Asif, who published his first collection of critical essays at the age of 24, regards engineering as his profession but holds poetry close as his true passion. His first poetry book Zara Jo Tum Thahar Jatay comprising ghazals and nazms was published in 1998. His other publications include Teray Humrah Chalna Hai; Koi Phool Dil Main Khila Nahi; Juda Hona Hee Parta Hai; Piyar Sazawan; and Kabhi Waqt Milay Tu Aa Jao. Asif's ghazals have been sung by famous Bollywood singers like Penaz Masani, Vaishali Samant, Pooja Gaitonde and Rafique Sheikh. The album of his ghazals has been named after his book 'Kabhi Waqt Milay Tu Aa Jao' and recorded at Buzz In Recording Studio, Vile Parle East, Mumbai, India. Pakistan's Urdu magazine Zarbaft dedicated a 212-page special edition to the literary achievements of Asif in2018. The special edition of the magazine was published by Faiz Academy, Narowal, Pakistan comprising Asif's selected work and articles written by men of letters on Asif. Asif Shafi's literary contributions have inspired academic research, with MPhil theses written by Azam Jamshed of Minhaj University, Lahore; Mohammad Ahmed Shakir from the Urdu Department at Sargodha University; and Fauzia Rasheed of Government College University, Faisalabad.
