KUCHING (July 31): Sarawak is set to kick off its National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Campaign 2025 with a community-oriented launch on August 2 at Kompleks Sukan Satok, Padang SLPAS, under the theme 'Malaysia Madani: Rakyat Disantuni'.
The launch will be officiated by Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and the Sarawak Public Communications Unit), Datuk Abdullah Saidol, who also serves as the minister-in-charge of the 2025 Sarawak-level National Day Celebration.
This state-level celebration continues the momentum from the national launch of the campaign by Prime Minister Dato' Seri Anwar Ibrahim on July 27 at Dataran Tanjung Emas, Muar, Johor.
Key highlights of the Sarawak event include the official launch of the Jalur Gemilang campaign, flagging-off of the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) convoy, and the Kita Madani Carnival 2025.
The KMJG convoy will begin its journey from Kompleks Sukan Satok, making its first stop at Dewan Kampung Tematu, Batu Kitang, and proceeding through five phases across Sarawak.
The journey will culminate on Malaysia Day, September 16.
'All convoy movements and routes will be updated regularly on the Sarawak Information Department's social media platforms,' said the Information Department in a report.
At each checkpoint, attendees can expect special programmes themed around HKHM celebrations, featuring infotainment concepts.
In addition, there will be Pentarama entertainment performances, Rahmah Sales, exhibitions by government departments and agencies, and stalls by Madani Community Groups from Kuching.
The public is also encouraged to display the Jalur Gemilang at homes, workplaces, and on vehicles throughout August, in support of the 'One House, One Jalur Gemilang' (1R1JG) initiative – an effort to foster patriotism and pride among Malaysians. jalur gemilang national day national month

Malaysia praised as peace talks host due to stability and economy

KOTA KINABALU: Thailand and Cambodia selected Malaysia as the venue for peace negotiations due to its political stability and developing economy, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced. Anwar stated that Malaysia, as a friendly nation, is honoured to facilitate discussions between the two countries to ensure regional peace. Cambodian Defence Minister General Tea Seiha and Thai Acting Defence Minister General Natthaphon Narkphanit are scheduled to arrive in Kuala Lumpur for detailed talks. 'We take pride in Malaysia's role in mediating this conflict. For the first time, we've successfully reconciled tensions between two nations in Kuala Lumpur,' Anwar said during the closing ceremony of the 2025 National Farmers, Breeders, and Fishermen's Day. The ceasefire agreement was reached on July 28 after a special meeting in Putrajaya, chaired by Anwar as ASEAN Chairman. Thailand and Cambodia also agreed to hold a General Border Committee meeting as part of the truce. Anwar noted that Malaysia's diplomatic success has drawn global recognition, including praise from US President Donald J. Trump and leaders from Germany, France, and other Asian nations. 'We engaged with multiple leaders, including President Xi Jinping, to secure this agreement,' he added. – Bernama

Sabah prioritises agriculture as key driver of economic growth

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said agriculture contributed RM12.2 billion or 14.5 per cent to Sabah's GDP, making it the third largest sector in the state economy. He said this during the closing ceremony of the National Farmers, Breeders and Fishermen Day (HPPNK) 2025 at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) here on Sunday, officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. To boost food resilience, Hajiji said Sabah had revived the Sabah Rice and Padi Board last year with the aim of raising rice self-sufficiency to 30 per cent by 2026 and 60 per cent by 2030. He highlighted the role of technology such as the Internet of Things and smart farming in modernising agriculture and attracting younger generations to the sector. So far, Sabah's 15 Permanent Food Production Parks (TKPM) have produced over 1,494 metric tonnes of food, generating more than RM4.32 million in returns. Sabah is also developing a RM360 million tuna and deep-sea fish landing port in Kota Kinabalu, expected to land 50,000 tonnes of tuna annually and support an estimated RM1.8 billion in economic value each year. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? ‘Every inch of Sabah will be defended': Anwar denies deal over disputed Sulawesi waters

KOTA KINABALU, Aug 3 — Sabah's rights will be protected in ongoing negotiations with Indonesia over the disputed Ambalat maritime zone, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Anwar dismissed claims that he had ignored the state's sovereignty over the oil-rich region in the Sulawesi Sea and said any agreement must involve both the Sabah state government and the state legislative assembly. 'This is a border issue between two countries, and Indonesia is an ally. President Prabowo is my personal friend, a family friend. I want it to be a good relationship. 'We talked about Sulawesi, and I wanted Hajiji to hear for himself, and give his view. We will discuss perimeters, following maritime laws, following history. It must be approved by the state government and subsequently the state legislative assembly. 'We will negotiate it properly, without surrendering. This was all in the meeting, not just under-the-table talk,' he said here today. Anwar said the matter was recently raised in Parliament, where it was suggested the dispute had already been settled — a claim he denied. 'We will protect every inch of Sabah. I will defend this principle. I chose to answer this now because we are defending Sabah on behalf of the federal government,' he said. Located in the Sulawesi Sea off Sabah's east coast near Tawau, the Ambalat Block has long been claimed by both Malaysia and Indonesia, primarily due to its oil and gas potential. Tensions flared in the early 2000s when both countries issued overlapping exploration concessions — Indonesia to ENI and Unocal, and Malaysia, via Petronas, to Shell.
