Six Vanarmare tribals to get welfare benefits for first time

For the first time, members of the Vanarmare tribal community of Nirankal will receive regular financial assistance under a govt welfare scheme.
Govt has sanctioned the Dayanand Social Security Scheme (DSSS) for six tribals from the community, comprising three senior citizens aged 65 to 67 years, and three persons with disabilities aged 45, 48, and 54 years.
Last month, the social welfare department went out to meet the community and observed that none of them were availing themselves of any social welfare schemes.
'They will begin receiving Rs 2,000 each under the scheme from July, which will be credited to them in Aug,' director of social welfare Ajit Panchwadlar told

. 'Rs 2,000 is a huge amount for them considering their present living conditions. This money will help take care of their needs, including medication, and earn them respect in their families. Taking this money back home will turn them into an important member of their families,' he said.
'This is not a one-time gift. This is the first time the govt has reached out to them to extend a govt welfare scheme,' Panchwadkar said. The govt is also looking at proper housing for them and is considering rehabilitating them.

Lamnunthiem, 26, from the Kuki-Zo community is an internally-displaced person from Imphal. A year-long ethnic conflict that has left scores dead in Manipur, her family currently stays in Kangpokpi. The other girl, 20-year-old Meitei girl Nganthoi is from Thoubal district. "We called her up several times after receiving the news but nobody picked up the calls. The internet on her phone is also still on. However, we stopped calling her around 6 pm fearing it would drain the battery," Nganthoi's relative, K Khenjita, told reporters. A cousin of the cabin crew member said her last message before take-off was, "I'm going to London. In a few minutes, we'll take off. We may not be able to talk for a while." Locals were shocked to hear the news of the crash in Awang Leikai in Thoubal, as the news of the crash reached the Sharma residence. Another relative said they were trying to get news about her and said her photos and videos are being widely shared. Open drain in Munnekolala sparks safety and health concerns; Residents demand urgent action from Bengaluru civic agency
1 2 Bengaluru: An open stormwater drain in Munnekolala's Sapthagiri Layout stands as a stark example of civic neglect. Instead of serving its intended purpose of carrying rainwater, the drain is filled with garbage and wastewater, posing health and safety issues. Located right in the middle of a residential layout in east Bengaluru, the open drain is a major hazard. Residents say two months ago, a person who was suspected to be intoxicated fell into the drain and lost his life. A field visit by TOI revealed the drain runs adjacent to a row of houses for at least 10 metres. The surrounding area is littered with silt, mud and construction debris. The drain, barely blocked by a single cement slab at the entrance, has become a garbage dump. Indira Nair, a resident living just metres away from the open drain, told TOI, "I don't know why the drain is kept open. It is filled with garbage and tends to overflow whenever there is heavy rain. People are also to be blamed as they dump waste into the open drain when they miss the van." Another resident, Mani, said the drain has been in this condition for over two years. "At least a grill can be built or the drain can be covered with a net or something. There are no safety measures in place. Mosquitoes and flies come to our houses and our health is at risk." Raman Singh KV, a commuter and activist, claims he submitted multiple complaints to BBMP, but little or no action has been taken. He even raised the issue on social media, which drew public outrage and widespread criticism of BBMP's alleged inaction. A BBMP assistant engineer (SWD), Munnekolala division, admitted the drain is in poor condition. "Retention wall work is happening a little ahead on the same SWD, which has slowed down water flow. Fire at Kareli grabage mound for third time within a fortnight
1 2 3 4 5 6 Prayagraj: A major fire broke out at a garbage mound behind Mustafa Complex leading to panic in Kareli and adjoining areas on Thursday for more than two hours. However, no one was hurt in the incident. Three fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames. The reason behind the fire was still unknown. Locals demanded a probe alleging that this was the third time that a fire broke out at the same place within a fortnight. A few days ago, a couple of huts were gutted in the blaze. Chief fire officer (Prayagraj) RK Pandey told TOI fire tenders controlled the fire before it could spread to nearby areas.
