Ben Askren released from hospital, delivers tearful video message on ride home

Yahoo5 days ago
Ben Askren is finally home.
An MMA and wrestling legend, Askren revealed he was released from the hospital Tuesday nearly two months after he entered due to a severe case of pneumonia. Askren underwent a double lung transplant four weeks ago.
"Day 59, I'm out with my beautiful wife supporter," Askren said. "Man, that was a long journey, and it's not over because I still can't really walk. I've got to reteach myself to do that, among many other things. I guess I can make light of it because it was me, and I don't really remember it. ... I don't remember 35 days of this journey. I think surgery was 24 or 25 days ago. It was hard. It was hard.
"I said this already in one of the videos, but the support you guys gave me, whether it was starting a GoFundMe, whether it was helping my kids and wife get through it, I had friends come from all over the country to hang out for a couple days. It meant so much. It was so great to just have all the support and all the love. Hopefully I'm not in this situation again for a really, really, really, really long time. I plan on living a while. Thank you guys again for all the positive comments online, everything. It means so much. Love you guys."
Askren, 40, recently revealed he died four times as he battled for his life. He lost 50 pounds in 45 days and was not aware for nearly half of that time. Askren said when he became conscious, he read through all of the supportive messages and felt as if he had attended his own funeral. He was on a ventilator prior to his transplant procedure.
It's still unclear how Askren ended up being hospitalized, though he and his wife Amy have indicated they might reveal more details as time progresses.
The news drew widespread reaction from the combat sports world, with numerous athletes, wrestlers, and the UFC publicly expressing thoughts and prayers for the former ONE and Bellator champion. The UFC's June 14 broadcast featured a segment wishing Askren well.
A T-shirt fundraiser has been launched to help with Askren's medical bills, as well as his mission to help support high-level athletes. After his win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last month, Jake Paul used his post-fight interview time to express support for Askren and raise awareness about his life-changing situation.
Dana White was asked and confirmed that he donated $10,000 to Askren's GoFundMe.
Askren retired from MMA in 2019 but returned for a one-off boxing bout vs. Paul in 2021. Widely considered one of the greatest amateur wrestlers in U.S. history, Askren remains heavily involved with the wrestling community and recently joined Hulk Hogan's Real American Freestyle.

Top contenders will be jockeying to add to their lineups, rotations and bullpens for the stretch run with the ultimate goal of playing deep into October. Follow along on Monday for the latest news and rumors: DIamondbacks trade rumors continue 'Do I think there's a chance we make more trades? Yes, I do,' Diamondbacks GM Mike Hazen said. I just don't know the extent to which that's going to happen and how many that's going to be.' Vogue readers horrified by use of ‘disturbing' AI models in Guess advert

Vogue readers have been left disturbed by the use of an AI model in the prestigious fashion magazine's August issue. The double-page advert, which features a blonde model wearing two different outfits across separate pages, was taken out by the label Guess and 'produced' by AI marketing Seraphinne Vallora. In one photo, the model sits with a cup of coffee in a light blue floral playsuit. In another, the AI figure leans against a blue wall in a black and white chevron print dress, clutching a matching Guess bag. Readers were alerted to the fact the model was AI generated through a fine print label that reads: 'Seraphinne Vallora on AI'. Seraphinne Vallora is an agency that designs 'editorial level AI-driven marketing campaigns and cinematic videos'. Its work has also been featured in Harper's Bazaar and Elle. 'That's disturbing. This is the direction AI should not be going in... wow,' one person wrote in response to the images of the AI model on X/Twitter. 'Great. The new beauty standard will be, literally, unobtainable because it's not real,' another social media user remarked. Others were more optimistic about the use of AI: 'The future is here. Takes less time and much cheaper to make,' one supporter wrote. The Independent has contacted Vogue, Guess and Seraphinne Vallora for comment. Plus size model Felicity Hayward, who has been in the fashion industry for over a decade, told the BBC that using AI models in campaigns 'feels lazy and cheap'. Hayward said Vogue's decision to include the advert was 'very disheartening and quite scary', adding she worried the practice could undermine years of work towards more diversity in the fashion industry. The controversy comes after OpenAI and Vogue's publisher Condé Nast announced a multi-year partnership that allows content from the magazine to appear in ChatGPT search results. Condé Nast's CEO, Roger Lynch, said in an email reported by the New York Times that it was 'crucial' for the publisher to 'meet audiences where they are and embrace new technologies'.

Find out when Notre Dame football will start its fall camp for the 2025 season

As we are heading towards the end of July, we know Notre Dame football is right around the corner when fall camps starts. Typically teams have about a month from when they report to begin really preparing for the season and when the opener is, which is exactly the case for the Irish. They'll start camp this coming Thursday, July 31st, with the first game being played against Miami on the road on Aug. 31st according to On3. There is plenty of hype surrounding the Notre Dame program at the moment, fresh off an impressive run to the College Football Playoff championship game, followed up by arguably the best recruiting class ever in the 2026 cycle. Head coach Marcus Freeman is also getting plenty of national attention, and big things are expected from this team once again as the season rapidly approaches. Notre Dame does have more than a few questions surrounding its team, but many of the other tops teams are also facing the same issue. The Irish should enjoy another successful regular season, one that propels them once against into the CFP.
