Punjabi singer Harbhajan Mann narrowly escaped a car accident after his car reportedly hit the divider on the Pipli flyover in Kurukshetra on Monday. There was no injury reported to Mann, who was travelling to Chandigarh in a vehicle with four occupants. Police said that the incident happened early morning when Mann was returning from Delhi, when their car hit a divider and overturned and one of his security personnel received minor wounds. Reports suggest that after the accident, a vegetable supplier was the first respondent, who rushed to the vehicle to rescue all and as people gathered, they understood that it was Mann's car. A viral video shows Mann recovering from a shock-like situation, while commuters asking for his well-being. Police said that they all left for Chandigarh after a few minutes and no complaint was received. Gunfire at Sidhu Moosewala Memorial in Dabwali sparks outrage, Lawrence gang claims responsibility

Chandigarh, Aug 5 (UNI) A recent act of vandalism involving gunfire at a memorial statue of late Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala has triggered a wave of anger and sorrow across fans and family alike. The incident, which occurred late at night in the Dabwali region of Haryana, was reportedly carried out by members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Unidentified assailants opened fire on the statue erected in Moosewala's memory, causing visible damage and leaving bullet shells scattered at the scene. Authorities have since registered a case and launched an investigation into the incident. Reacting to the attack, Sidhu Moosewala's mother, Charan Kaur, issued a deeply emotional statement on social media, calling the incident a "wound to the soul". 'This is not just an attack on a stone statue,' she wrote in her Instagram post. 'This is an assault on the memory of our son, on the love and respect people had for him.' Charan Kaur expressed deep disappointment over what she described as repeated efforts to erase the legacy of her son. She said that while Moosewala is no longer alive to speak for justice and truth, attempts are still being made to silence his voice and influence. 'My son stood for the rights of the people. Even after his death, efforts are being made to silence his memory. But let me be clear—he cannot be erased. He was a wave, and waves don't die,' she added. In her message, Charan Kaur also warned those responsible that silence from her side should not be mistaken for weakness. 'Our silence is not defeat. Everyone who commits wrong will face justice someday,' she wrote. Soon after the attack, a chilling development followed. Social media posts surfaced, allegedly from Lawrence gang members Goldy Dhillon and Arzoo Bishnoi, claiming responsibility for the act. The posts also contained direct threats to political figures such as Digvijay Chautala and Gagan Kokri, warning them against promoting Moosewala as a martyr. The gang accused these individuals of misleading the public by glorifying Moosewala and threatened 'serious consequences' if such actions continue. Law enforcement agencies are currently verifying the authenticity of the social media posts and assessing the credibility of the threats. Meanwhile, increased security has been deployed at the memorial site and surrounding areas as a precautionary measure. The incident has sparked widespread condemnation from Moosewala's fans, civil rights groups, and members of the Punjabi music industry. Many see this not only as an act of criminal intimidation but also as an attack on the cultural and emotional legacy of a beloved artist. Local residents in Dabwali expressed shock and dismay over the attack. 'This is not just about Sidhu Moosewala. It's about the culture and voice he represented,' said one fan. Sidhu Moosewala, known for his powerful lyrics and raw storytelling, was tragically shot dead in May 2022. His death sent shockwaves through the music industry and his fan base worldwide, especially in Punjab and Canada. Since then, Moosewala has come to be seen by many as a symbol of defiance and youth resistance. The local police have launched a detailed probe into the incident. Forensic teams have collected bullet casings and CCTV footage from the area is being examined. Authorities have neither confirmed nor denied the involvement of the Lawrence gang officially, pending further evidence. Senior police officials stated that they are taking the matter seriously and will pursue all leads to bring the perpetrators to justice. 'We are investigating from every possible angle. No one involved in this cowardly act will be spared,' a senior police officer stated. The state government has yet to issue an official statement on the incident, though political pressure is mounting to act swiftly against organized criminal networks operating across the Punjab-Haryana belt. Moose Wala's mother calls gunfire at son's statue a wound on her soul

1 2 Bathinda: Charan Kaur, the mother of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala , has issued an emotional and powerful statement on social media after a statue of her son was fired upon near the Punjab-Haryana border. In a hard-hitting post on Tuesday, Kaur called the incident an attack on the memory of her son and a wound on their soul. She said that the statue was not merely a piece of stone, but a symbol of the honor and love his fans hold for him. "My son was turning into a sound for the rights of people, and efforts are being made to silence him even after his demise," she wrote. "This attack is like an injury to our soul. The enemies of my son's life are not leaving him even after his demise. You can beat him, but his memory cannot be erased. He is like a movement that will remain forever. I only want to say that one day the guilty will surely get punishment; our silence is not our defeat," she said. The statue, erected by Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) youth wing Haryana president Digvijay Chautala, was the target of gunshots. The incident came to light after Chautala received a threatening video message from a Cyprus-based WhatsApp number about a week ago, showing the firing at the statue. The message also contained a threat that after Moose Wala's killing, his sympathisers would be next.

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim granted 40-day parole

Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is convicted of rape and murder, walked out of Rohtak's Sunaria jail on Tuesday after he was granted a 40-day parole. Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is convicted of rape and murder, walked out of Rohtak's Sunaria jail on Tuesday after he was granted a 40-day parole. (HT file photo) Ram Rahim left the jail early in the morning and headed to the Sirsa headquarters of the dera in a motorcade. This is his 14th temporary release from the jail since 2020. 'The parole is as per the law and Ram Rahim Singh will stay at his Sirsa-headquartered dera during his parole,' Dera spokesperson and advocate Jitender Khurana said. The dera head, who will turn 58 on August 15, was convicted in 2017 for raping two of his disciples. He along with three others were also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago. Ram Rahim's parole and furloughs have been a matter of contention and raised by the families of the victims. Following the grant of the 40-day parole, the dera head has exhausted the count of days he is allowed to stay out of the prison in a calendar year by getting temporary release mandated under the law for a convicted prisoner which is 10 weeks of parole and 21 days of furlough. He was granted a 21-day furlough in April and a 30-day parole in January, ahead of the February 5 Delhi assembly elections. By the time he returns to Sunaria jail at the end of his parole, he would have been out of prison for three months this year. In all, he has spent 326 days out of jail so far. He was granted a 20-day parole on October 1 last year, days before the October 5 Haryana assembly polls. In August last year, he was granted a 21-day furlough. He was granted a three-week furlough from February 7, 2022, barely two weeks before the Punjab assembly elections. Sikh organisations, such as the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, have criticised the grant of relief to the dera head in the past. On most of the 13 occasions in the past when he was out of jail, he remained at the dera's ashram in Barnawa in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat. In May last year, the Punjab and Haryana high court had acquitted him and four others in the 2002 murder of the sect's former manager Ranjit Singh, citing 'tainted and sketchy investigation'. Earlier, a special CBI court had sentenced them to life imprisonment in the nearly 20-year-old murder case. It held the dera head guilty of hatching a criminal conspiracy with his co-accused. The Dera Sacha Sauda has a number of followers in Haryana's Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Hisar districts and adjoining areas of Punjab and Rajasthan besides western UP.
