India's Tata Motors to invest up to $4 billion over 5 years for EVs, new cars

Reutersa day ago

June 9 (Reuters) - India's Tata Motors (TAMO.NS), opens new tab plans to invest up to 350 billion rupees ($4.1 billion) over the next five years, aiming to cement its position as the country's top electric vehicle maker amid rising competition and a push to adopt clean cars.
The maker of the Nexon and Punch sport utility vehicles will nearly double its portfolio from eight models to 15, launch more EVs and compressed natural gas cars as well as enhance the vehicles' technology features, according to its investor day presentation released on Monday.
India, the world's third-largest car market, is planning stricter emission norms starting 2027 and wants EVs to form 30% of all car sales by 2030.
Tata Motors did not share its investment plan for the current year to March 2026, but said last month the domestic businesses, including commercial vehicles, would have a capital expenditure of about 80 billion rupees.
Intense competition in the combustion engine market has allowed rival Mahindra & Mahindra (MAHM.NS), opens new tab to overtake Tata. China's MG Motor (600104.SS), opens new tab has also challenged Tata's EV dominance with the "Windsor" model, outselling its products since late last year.
Yet, Tata Motors maintained its target of 16% market share by March 2027, aiming to reach 18%-20% by March 2030.

2025 Ford Bronco Pricing Will Have Hardcore Off-Roaders Smiling

Good News! The Most Badass Bronco Is More Affordable Ford is always quick to announce incentives just when it looks like automakers can't afford to take any more hits, and now it's about to make its most hardcore off-roader even cheaper. According to Bronco Nation, the Blue Oval is readying adjusted pricing for six variants of the Bronco, but not all of it is good news. While the particularly off-road-focused models at the top of the tree will get trimmed MSRPs, and the Raptor shaves more than $10,000 off, lower-hanging fruit is about to become a little harder to reach. Worse still, the increases also impact color and other options. But we're being dramatic; the increases, for the most part, are minor. $1,000 Increases Are Not Too Bitter A Pill To Swallow As noted in the report, the 2025 Bronco arrived without any increases over the 2024 version, so these increases come with improvements. The smallest increase is for the Badlands Two Door, which now starts $290 higher at $50,095. The biggest increases come to both versions of the base Bronco, at $1,000, but most trims are unchanged or cheaper, with the kicker being that the Raptor is more than 10 grand cheaper, sneaking in under $80,000. In addition, the Badlands trim now has equal pricing between two- and four-door options. However, the prices you see mentioned above and below exclude a new destination charge, which has increased by a C-note and is now $1,995. MY2025 Bronco Trim 2024 Pricing 2025 Pricing Difference Base 2-Dr $37,995 $38,995 +$1,000 Base 4-Dr $37,995 $38,995 +$1,000 Badlands 2-Dr $50,095 $50,385 +$290 Badlands 4-Dr $51,385 $50,385 -$1,000 Stroppe Edition 2-Dr $75,635 $75,635 – Big Bend 4-Dr $40,370 $41,220 +$850 Heritage Edition 4-Dr $49,475 $49,475 – Outer Banks 4-Dr $47,940 $47,940 – Raptor 4-Dr $90,035 $79,995 -$10,040 Destination Charge $1,895 $1,995 +$100 Some Options Will Now Cost You More Source: Ford This might not necessarily be a big increase, but it's a big change: the 10-speed automatic, which is optional on some trims, will cost $300 more ($1,795 for 2025). Velocity Blue, Marsh Gray, and Desert Sand optional paints go up a hundred bucks to $395 for 2025, too, but that's it. Bronco Nation reports that the MSRP changes 'went into effect on June 2,' but don't take their word for it, nor ours: the 2025 Ford Bronco configurator already reflects the updates. Sadly, more mainstream models in the Ford lineup have seen increases, but who knows? If Ford stays true to form, we may see more incentives in the next quarter, which is almost upon us. Aston Martin's New Valkyrie LM Is As Close As You Can Get To a Le Mans Hypercar, With Just 10 Made

If you've dreamed of racing at Le Mans, Aston Martin has the perfect car for you. How Aston Martin's Valkyrie LM differs from the LMH set to compete in The 24 Hours of Le Mans Aston Martin has revealed its new Valkyrie LM hypercar, which is derived from its Le Mans Hypercar (LMH) counterpart competing in the world-famous race this weekend. The Valkyrie LM's 10 owners will enjoy the same 7-speed transmission and 6.5-liter V-12 engine in the LMH version, but this modified engine produces 697 hp compared to the race version's 670. Aston Martin is making the Valkyrie LM accessible to amateur drivers by removing race series-specific elements like added weight and FIA-regulation electronics in favor of a cockpit interface tailored for track day usage. The automaker also changed the Valkyrie LM's torque control to a friendlier open-loop configuration instead of closed-loop with fewer internal adjustments, removed torque sensors managing power delivery for less technological oversight, and altered the V-12 engine to accept standard fuel. 0:06 / 0:09 Walmart is selling a 'heavy duty' $89 step ladder for $48, and shoppers say it's 'sturdy and secure' Watch More Aston Martin Valkyrie LM Operating in rear-wheel drive, the one-seater Valkyrie LM features Pirelli tires, semi-automatic paddle shifters like the LMH version, and a double-wishbone front and rear suspension with pushrod-actuated torsion bar springs with adjustable side and central dampers. This race-derived suspension set-up optimizes track performance and adjustability, and the cockpit contains a custom carbon-fiber race seat with shoulder support and headrest padding. This multi-million dollar Aston Martin also has an FIA safety harness, fire suppression system, and steering wheel with an integrated display and shift lights. Aston Martin has plenty in store for Valkyrie LM buyers Aston Martin is ensuring the Valkyrie LM's 10 buyers get the most out of their purchase with its optional track day program launching in Q2 2026. The track day program ensures each car is set up and prepared as it should be, with assistance from professional engineers, allowing drivers to push the model's limits, which include top speeds exceeding 200 mph. Before hitting the track, the program has owners train on a simulator with driver coaching sessions. Each Valkyrie LM comes with a helmet, Head and Neck Safety (HANS) device, driver's suit and boots, molded earpieces, driver's gloves, and fireproof underwear. Drivers opting into the track day program will have Aston Martin store their Valkyrie LM, allowing them to simply fly in, race, and fly out. Adam Carter, Aston Martin's Head of Endurance Motorsport, said in a release: 'It is important to emphasize that the Valkyrie LM is close to identical to the race car that is currently competing in WEC and IMSA, with only a few minor deviations to ensure it is a non-homologated variant and is accessible for customers to experience and enjoy. Valkyrie LM represents the most authentic Hypercar track experience that is now available.' Autoblog Newsletter Autoblog brings you car news; expert reviews and exciting pictures and video. While the 10 Valkyrie LM owners will be part of a small club, Aston Martin facilitates a community aspect within this exclusive group through its track day program. Customers participating in the program will enjoy a Q2 2026 hand-off event marking first drives, two fully supported track days in Q3 2026, and additional track runs at F1 circuits in Q4 2026. Aston Martin's Valkyrie LM is an endurance racing fan's dream come true. Pricing has yet to be announced. About the Author Cody Carlson View Profile

Mazda MX-5 Miata Owners Must Wait A Year To Fix New Recall

2024 & 2025 Miatas Have A Traction Control Issue Whether you're a first-time sports car owner or a seasoned enthusiast, few cars provide the thrills offered by the Mazda MX-5 Miata. But according to a new recall issued by the NHTSA, the Miata may be more thrilling than Mazda intended. The recall documents (under campaign number 25V336000) say that 12,244 Miata models from the 2024 and 2025 model years have traction and stability control systems that may not behave as designed. Once Again, Software Is To Blame For A Glitch The NHTSA says that the traction control and dynamic stability control indicator light 'may fail to illuminate as intended due to a software error,' which makes them nonconformant with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 126. Looking deeper, the federal agency says that the lights may not be activated when the vehicle detects an abnormal yaw rate. In other words, once the vehicle gets a little sideways, the software may not warn drivers that the vehicle is losing control. Since the software for the traction and stability systems is faulty, the systems may not kick in, which could lead to a crash. At Least It'll Be An Easy Fix Source: Mazda The root cause of the issue is an error with the dynamic stabillity control system's diagnostic programming, and in an age of over-the-air updates, this sort of thing should be easy to resolve. However, the recall notice doesn't say that the update will be performed remotely, so if you own one of the affected vehicles, you'll need to visit a dealer for the update. Worse still, you'll need to wait for the fix; Mazda says this will be a phased recall with a long lead time since the required parts are unlikely to be available until the second quarter of 2026. Customers will be notified whether the part is available by July 21, so for the next few weeks and months, take it easy out there. About the Author Sebastian Cenizo View Profile
