Halestorm's Lzzy Hale feared Back to Beginning performance invite was fake and didn't reply at first

Perth Now29-04-2025
Halestorm's Lzzy Hale didn't respond to Sharon Osbourne's email inviting the band to perform at Black Sabbath's last-ever concert for two days - because she didn't know if it was "real".
The 41-year-old singer is the only woman who has been invited to perform at the star-studded 'Back to the Beginning' event, which will feature Black Sabbath's original line-up, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, as well as performances from Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Alice In Chains, and Lamb Of God among others.
Speaking to Audacy Music, Lzzy said: "Dude, so we got this e-mail from [Ozzy's wife and manager] Sharon Osbourne. And I didn't answer it for two days. 'cause I'm, like, 'Is this real?' It's wild.
"I've been a Black Sabbath fan since I was 11. The first riff I ever learned a guitar was 'Heaven And Hell' by Black Sabbath.
"To be the only woman asked to be there is an honour as well."
Several of Lzzy's fellow female singers, including The Pretty Reckless' Taylor Momsen and Evanescence frontwoman Amy Lee, have told her how "proud" they are ahead of her performance at 'Back to the Beginning', which will take place at Villa Park in Birmingham on July 5th.
She added: "I was talking to my friends, Taylor Momsen and Amy Lee and [In This Moment's] Maria Brink and all of my sisters in this genre, and they're all so proud of me.
"And I said, 'Hey, girls, I'm carrying you with me. You're gonna be there in spirit. I'm gonna make you girls so proud.'
"And so it's this beautiful event that everyone gets to look forward to. I'm so glad they're doing it."
Rage Against The Machine rocker Tom Morello is the musical director of the spectacle, and he has told Lzzy it is "in the works" for her and Disturbed's David Draiman to perform Ozzy and Lita Ford song 'Close My Eyes Forever' at the event.
Lzzy and David previously recorded the cover together as a duet.
She said: "So, according to Tom Morello, that is in the works, but he said, 'You're gonna have to be patient with the confirmation for that.'
"Because of Ozzy's health and everything, we're gonna have to see pretty much on the day how much Ozzy's going to be singing and willing to do.
But Halestorm is doing a set. We're also doing a Black Sabbath cover.
"And I've been asked to sing in the supergroup with Tom Morello and everybody there."

Good Things 2025 line-up: Tool, Weezer, Garbage, James Reyne to perform in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane as festival unveils bill

Australia's premier rock and metal festival has announced a monster bill to hit stages in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in December. Good Things 2025 will be headlined by prog metal titans Tool, visiting Australia for the first time since early 2020. The Los Angeles quartet — fronted by the enigmatic Maynard James Keenan — have performed only sporadically in 2025, most recently at Ozzy Osbourne's Back to the Beginning farewell show last month in Birmingham just weeks before the Black Sabbath icon's death at 76. A healthy dose of Nineties nostalgia will be on offer courtesy of Weezer and Garbage, the latter returning to Australia for the first time in more than a decade. Traditionally one of their strongest markets, the foursome of Shirley Manson, Butch Vig, Steve Marker and Duke Erikson head down under on the back of their eighth studio album Let All That We Imagine Be the Light with hits from their multi-platinum albums Garbage (1995) and beautifulgarbage (2001) in tow. Elsewhere, following in the footsteps of fellow Aussie pub rock icons Boom Crash Opera and Dragon, former Australian Crawl frontman and ARIA Hall of Fame member James Reyne will bring classic tunes such as Reckless, The Boys Light Up and Slave to the festival stage. Fans of legendary punk outfit Refused, meanwhile, will get a chance to see the band on their farewell tour. Originally forming in 1991, the Swedish band first split seven years later while touring the US in support of their seminal 1998 album The Shape Of Punk To Come before reforming in 2012. The travelling circus kicks off on December 5 at Melbourne's Flemington Racecourse before heading to Sydney and Brisbane on December 6 and 7 respectively. The Sydney leg will head west to the Showground at Olympic Park — previously home to spiritual predecessors Soundwave and the Big Day Out — for the first time, having been staged in the eastern suburbs' Centennial Park since 2019. Tickets for all shows go on sale from 10am on Thursday, August 21, with a pre-sale on Tuesday, August 19 accessible by signing up at Weezer Garbage | All Time Low | Machine Head | The All-American Rejects Knocked Loose | Lorna Shore | Refused | New Found Glory | Make Them Suffer Dayseeker | James Reyne | Kublai Khan TX | Cobra Starship | Goldfinger | Tonight Alive In Alphabetical Order: Palaye Royale | Scene Queen | South Arcade | Wargasm | Windwaker | Yours Truly Plus the chaos of Stage 666.

Yungblud vows to keep honouring Ozzy Osbourne

Yungblud has vowed to spend the rest of his life honouring Ozzy Osbourne. The 28-year-old singer regarded the late Black Sabbath rocker - who died last month at the age of 76 - as a friend and mentor and he is determined to ensure "everyone" knows all about the Paranoid hitmaker. He told The Sunday Times Culture magazine: 'He taught me self-belief and so I'm going to take his spirit and make sure everybody knows for the rest of my life who Ozzy Osbourne was — he meant everything to me.' Yungblud - whose real name is Dominic Harrison - was stunned when he heard Ozzy had died, just two weeks after he had been part of the rocker's farewell show in his native Birmingham. He said: 'Ozzy was effervescent. 'I told a friend that I thought Ozzy had another five albums in him. I didn't think he was going to sing live any more, but that day he was so full of life and being hilarious, laughing that laugh of his. And then he did the show and then he died. It's so overwhelming.' The 11 Minutes hitmaker gave a reading at Ozzy's funeral on the request of his family and he admits he gets "emotional" talking about his idol because he had always meant so much to him. He choked up as he said: 'I just love him and right till the very end he supported me. 'I get emotional, because I've loved him since I was about two. 'He was such a character — I remember his glasses. He looked cool and he got me through a lot as a young person. He fuelled rebellion within me — made me determined to be myself. But when I got to know him I realised he was completely different to who I thought he was. 'He was just a human being. 'I saw the man behind the character on stage — that guy who made me a salami sandwich when we first met. I saw that his heart was as big as I believed it would be. "I had a moment with him, and now he's passed on to the next life.'

Numb! 2000s rockers snub Perth in long-awaited return to Aus

Re-emerging rockers Linkin Park have left Perth off their limited 2026 Aussie tour schedule in a blow to long-time local fans. The In the End hitmakers announced Australian tour dates for their From Zero World Tour on Monday, with the band's first national shows since 2013 set to land in Brisbane, Melbourne, and Sydney in early March next year. Their most recent WA performance was at the now-defunct Soundwave Festival in February 2013, lining up alongside rock stalwarts Metallica, Blink-182, Paramore, and The Offspring. Local fans have expressed their disappointment at being snubbed in favour of East Coast tour dates, pleading with tour agent Live Nation to expand the group's schedule. 'Ffs seriously? Perth misses out again,' one frustrated fan said. Another commented, 'I live in Brisbane but honestly Perth needs some love. Can we petition for these bands to bless the west coast? ✍🏼' 'Whyyyyyyy aren't they coming to Perth…,' another added. Linkin Park has not included Perth in its plans to tour Australian in 2026. In May this year, the five-piece band released the Deluxe Edition of their From Zero album, equipped with their latest single Let You Fade. However, one notable difference to their line-up in Australia next year will be the addition of co-lead vocalist Emily Armstrong. Replacing late singer and front man Chester Bennington, who died of suicide in 2017, Armstrong controversially formed part of the group's re-emergence in September 2024 following a seven-year hiatus. Alongside Armstrong, the band now consists of co-vocalist, keyboardist and guitarist Mike Shinoda, lead guitarist Brad Delson, DJ Joe Hahn, bassist Dave Farrell, and drummer Colin Brittain.
