SpaceX rocket carrying 24 satellites lights up Southern California sky
The Starlink mission successfully took off in its 10:05 p.m. window, according to SpaceX, despite the livestream from the launch pad showing thick fog around the launch pad.
Once it took off, however, footage from Porter Ranch showed a clear shot of the Falcon 9 rocket streaking high above the San Fernando Valley.
The rocket carried 24 Starlink satellites to low-Earth orbit. According to the space tech giant, this was the fifth flight for the first stage booster supporting this mission, which has now supported five Starlink missions.
After stage separation, the first stage landed on the Of Course I Still Love You droneship stationed in the Pacific Ocean — which typically can send a loud sonic boom around Southern California.
