Teacher, with alleged Maoist links, held during Operation Garuda in Gajapati
Adava police arrested Pratap Kumar Nayak, a primary school teacher, for his alleged links with Maoists on Tuesday. Nayak has been working at Nuakhajuripada government primary school in Adava and was earlier booked in 2011 for alleged involvement with a Maoist organisation and participation in violent incidents across various locations.
Gajapati SP Jatindra Kumar Panda said several other teachers in Adava, Mohana and R Udayagiri face similar allegations of Maoist links and illegal ganja trafficking and have been asked to surrender.
Police have also sent letters to the block education officer regarding the matter. 'If they fail to surrender, they will be arrested wherever they are', said the SP. However, Mohana block education officer Narendra Behera said so far his office has not received any such letter from the police. 'If any letter arrives naming a teacher, appropriate action will be taken as per government regulations,' he added.
In a separate case, Adava police arrested three brothers- Soho Sobhasundar (58), Alix Sobhasundar (60) and Tej Sobhasundar (62) of Aliganda village in connection with a 2006 family quarrel case on Thursday. The three were produced in court on the day.

One notorious ganja peddler held, 22-kg ganja seized
Nellore: In a joint operation by Eagle team and local police headed by Balaji Nagar Circle Inspector K Sambasiva Rao, raids were conducted and a 51-year-old person allegedly responsible for smuggling ganja was arrested. The police seized 22-kg ganja and a car from him at SVGS College Grounds in the city on Sunday. The accused was identified as Beekara Prakash@ B Suryaprakash (51) of Krishna Nagar in Rajahmundry town of East Godavari district. Speaking to the mediapersons at SVGS College along with SP, Eagle Team Inspector General R K Ravikrishna has said that following a tip-off, Balaji Nagar CI Sambasiva Rao along with the Eagle team, conducted raids at SVGS on the accused and caught him while he was in possession of 22-kg ganja. The police seized a Maruthi Swift Car AP10 AY 5649 from him on the spot. The IG said that on the occasion, Balaji Nagar CI K Sambasiva Rao has fired two rounds at the accused when he tried to drive the vehicle towards police. The IG said that one constable Paton Firoz was injured as he got hit by the car and he was shifted to Government General Hospital (GGH) in Nellore city. The IG narrated that the accused used to bring ganja from Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR) district and sell the intoxicant substance to some people in Nellore city. The IG said that several cases have been registered against the accused (Beekara Prakash) over his alleged involvement in ganja smuggling in East Godavari, Eluru and Nellore districts. He said that as part of initiative in preventing ganja smuggling and narcotics, police department has launched two operations one is 'Operation Eagle' meant to eradicate ganja smuggling in the trains and another is 'Operation Garuda' aimed to seize unauthorized drugs in the medical stores. He said that under Operation Eagle, 23,000 kg of ganja was seized till date. The IG appealed to the people to inform the police if they notice ganja smuggling as their details were hide in secret. On the occasion, the IG visited constable Payon Firoz who is undergoing treatment at GGH in the city. Additional SP CH Soujanya, Nellore City DSP Sindhu Priya and others were present.

4 Maoists, Active For A Decade, Surrender With Rs 19 Lakh Bounty In Chhattisgarh
Gariaband (Chhattisgarh): In an unprecedented success for the Gariaband Police, four Maoists surrendered on Sunday. Inspector General Raipur Range, Amresh Mishra, called it the success of the police force and added, "This is an unprecedented success for Gariaband Police, this area, and for the state. 4 Maoist cadres, who were active for the last decade in this region, have surrendered with their weapons..." The surrendered Maoists were later felicitated by the police. Inspector General Raipur Range, Amresh Mishra, added that the Maoists had a prize of total Rs. 19 lakhs and said, "They told us that the youth in Naxal organisations want to leave this path of violence and come to the mainstream, but they are being held captive... They had a total prize of Rs 19 lakh on them..." Meanwhile, one jawan was killed and two others injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast triggered by Maoists in the National Park area of Bijapur district on Monday, a police official said. According to IG Bastar P Sundarraj, during an anti-Maoist operation by the DRG team in Bijapur district's National Park area, an IED blast occurred in the morning. The injured personnel are in stable condition and out of danger. They have received first aid and are being evacuated for further treatment. Detailed information will be provided after the completion of the operation. Earlier on August 14, the security forces successfully neutralised two dreaded Maoist cadres carrying a combined bounty of Rs 1.16 crore during a gun battle in Chhattisgarh's Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district. Vijay Reddy, a member of the Dandkaranya Special Zonal Committee (DKSZC), who carried a bounty of Rs 90 lakh, and Lokesh Salame, Secretary of the Rajnandgaon-Kanker Border (RKB) division, with a reward of Rs 26 lakh on his head, were neutralised in a joint operation by the Chhattisgarh Police, District Reserve Guard (DRG), and the 27th Battalion of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on August 13 in the state's insurgency-hit region. The gun battle erupted during a coordinated anti-Maoist operation, the ITBP said in a statement. "Security forces had been tracking the movement of the duo in the dense forest belt when the exchange of fire broke out." According to officials, the elimination of Reddy and Salame is considered a major blow to Maoist operations in the Dandkaranya region and along the Rajnandgaon-Kanker border. Weapons and other naxal-related materials were recovered from the site. In a press conference of the District Police-Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki, held at Mohla, Superintendent of Police YP Singh and Commandant of the 27th Battalion ITBP Vivek Kumar Pandey provided the details of the encounter. Deliberating about further details, the SP said that the slain Left Wing Extremists (LWEs) or Maoists were some very senior cadres of the North Bastar and RKB division. "With the elimination of these, an era of LWE terror and atrocities has ended. Vijay Reddy alias Chinanna alias Naganna alias Shankar, 55, a resident of Balarampuram Mandal, Atmakur, has been considered as the 'ghost' of the LWEs in the area for decades.

Chhattisgarh: Maoist camp busted in Gariaband; arms, ammo and cash seized
Security forces have, in a joint operation, destroyed a Maoist camp in a dense hilly area of Gariaband district and recovered arms, ammunition, cash, and other materials, the police said on Monday. (PTI) The action was carried out by a joint team of Gariaband Police, Dhamtari Police, CRPF and CoBRA commandoes in the jungles near village Bade Gobra under Manepur police station limits. The forces were on a routine patrol when they came across a Maoist camp, following which armed ultras opened fire on the advancing security forces. The forces retaliated, and the Maoists fled the site leaving behind a large cache of weapons and other belongings, a senior officer said. 'The security personnel have recovered four country-made rifles, four pistols, a hand grenade, a belt-fed machine gun, 17 live rounds of 5.56 mm and 7.62 mm calibre, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs), 50 electronic detonators, and an INSAS magazine, among other ammunition,' Amresh Mishra, Raipur range Inspector General of Police, said. They also seized ₹16.5 lakh in cash, a laptop, radio sets, Maoist uniforms, solar equipment, and a large quantity of literature and other materials. Police said the camp has been demolished and further search operations are underway in the Manepur area.
