Robot DOG makes an appearance at the Met Gala

Ammon07-05-2025

Ammon News - At New York's Met Gala, guests are known for attention-grabbing outfits, from Katy Perry's human chandelier dress to Kim Kardashian's all-black body suit.
But one attendant in particular has stolen the limelight this year – and he's not even human.
Indian-American entrepreneur Mona Patel rocked up to the annual event on Monday night with an adorable robotic dachshund in tow.
Vector the robo-dog, developed by scientists at MIT, has a 1,000-carat diamond-studded leash and his own cute little specially-fitted tuxedo.
Powered by AI and equipped with sensors, Vector has customised movement patterns and 'just the right amount of sass', Vogue India reports.
Patel herself wore a custom suit with a cape and corseted bodice from American fashion designer Thom Browne, plus a 3D-printed hat.

WhatsApp is getting usernames so you can finally stop sharing your phone number

Ammon News - WhatsApp is finally getting a feature that's so basic one has to wonder why it wasn't there in the first place: usernames. That's right, the Meta-owned app still doesn't let you log in with a username and password, instead requiring you to punch in your phone number. But this appears to be changing. According to WABetaInfo, which tracks WhatsApp beta features, a new WhatsApp beta (version 25.17.10.70), the company is currently working on adding usernames, though the feature isn't yet available for testing. The way it'll work is as follows: WhatsApp users will get the option to create a unique username consisting of letters and numbers, provided it doesn't use special characters (besides periods and underscores). For security reasons, usernames won't be allowed to start with " or end with a domain such as ".com" to prevent folks to trick people into pretending they represent a website. And, of course, usernames that are already taken will not be available.

WhatsApp shutting down permanently on these iPhones and Android devices

Ammon News - WhatsApp will stop functioning on a number of older smartphones as part of its routine software update cycle beginning Sunday, June 1, 2025. The update, initially expected on May 5, was delayed to allow users more time to prepare. The Meta-owned messaging platform has raised its minimum operating system requirements, resulting in the end of support for devices that can no longer meet these standards. To continue using WhatsApp, iPhones must now be running iOS 15.1 or later, while Android devices must operate on Android 5.1 or newer. Devices that fall short of these criteria will lose access to the app's messaging and calling services. Full List of Affected iPhones and Android Phones Several older Apple and Android devices will be impacted. The following iPhone models are confirmed to be incompatible with the new version of WhatsApp: iPhone 5s iPhone 6 iPhone 6 Plus Additional models such as the iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, and iPhone SE (1st generation) have also been mentioned in some reports. However, these devices are capable of running iOS 15.8.4, which means they remain compatible for the time being. On the Android side, the devices losing support include: Samsung Galaxy S4 Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sony Xperia Z1 LG G2 Huawei Ascend P6 Moto G (1st Gen) Motorola Razr HD Moto E (2014) HTC One X Samsung Galaxy S3 Any device running Android 5.0 or earlier is no longer supported due to the new minimum requirement of Android 5.1. Microsoft to invest $400 million in Switzerland on AI, cloud computing

Ammon News - Microsoft will invest $400 million in Switzerland, the company said on Monday, with the money going towards developing its cloud computing and artificial intelligence infrastructure. The U.S. tech company announced the investment at a meeting of Swiss Economy Minister Guy Parmelin and its vice chair Brad Smith in Bern. Microsoft, which employs 1,000 people in Switzerland, did not give details on how many jobs the investment would create. The money will be used to expand and upgrade its four data centres near Geneva and Zurich, responding to increased demand for AI and cloud computing services in Switzerland, it said. The expansion will serve existing and new customers and allow data to remain within Swiss borders - an important requirement for sectors like healthcare, finance and government. Microsoft will also expand its partnership work with small and medium-sized companies and step up training efforts to help people use AI and digital tools.
