If you've lived in Florida for long enough, you know that spring break brings hordes of crowds every year – from families looking to escape the cold and sit on a warm, quiet beachfront, to college students hoping to kickstart the summer at beachfront parties and bars.
For many Floridians – particularly those who live in beach towns that attract college students on vacation – spring break is a dreaded few weeks that bring traffic and throngs of party-ready students.
And spring break is less than a month away for most of Florida's college students. Ahead of spring break 2025, BonusFinder, a comparison tool for online gambling sites, released a study ranking the best 'party cities' in the U.S. for 2025.
Three of Florida's spring break hotspots, including Daytona Beach and Panama City, dominated the top five spots on the list.
Here's BonusFinder's list of the best party cities in the U.S. this year, which Florida cities ranked and why.
It depends on who you ask and which study or 'best' list you read – but no matter where they place, Panama City Beach, Daytona Beach and Miami Beach almost always make the list.
For its study, BonusFinder analyzed more than 100 cities across the country across the following metrics:
Number of Clubs and Bars (Per 10,000 People)
Number of Late Night Food Venues (Per 10,000 People)
Number of Hotels (Per 10,000 People)
Number of Casinos and Card Rooms (Per 10,000 People)
Time of the Last Call at the Bar (on a regular Saturday)
Average Number of Parties on a Special Weekend (Per 10,000 People)
Average Number of Concerts on a Regular Weekend (Per 10,000 People)
Average Number of Festivals (Per 10,000 People)
Average Price of a Drink
Average Price of a Hotel Room
Average Taxi Cost from the Airport to the City Center
Average Price of a Meal in a Fast Food Restaurant
Safety Index (out of 100)
Based on that methodology, Key West, Florida, placed as the top party city in the U.S. and Panama City took second place. Daytona Beach took fourth place, right behind Atlantic City, New Jersey, which ranked third.
Here's BonusFinder's top 10 best party cities in the U.S. for 2025:
Key West, Florida
Panama City, Florida
Atlantic City, New Jersey
Daytona Beach, Florida
Biloxi, Mississippi
Las Vegas, Nevada
Charleston, West Virginia
Reno, Nevada
Green Bay, Wisconsin
Albany, New York
Curfews and beach bag searches: This Florida city cracks down on spring break. What to know
Of all the Florida Keys, Key West is widely known for having the best and most nightlife options. And that is clearly reflected in BonusFinder's study.
'The city's commitment to keeping the party going extends beyond just nightlife. Late-night food options are abundant, with Key West ranking No. 1 for the number of late-night eateries, making it easy to grab a bite after a night out,' BonusFinder's study says.
'The city also leads the nation in the number of hotels per capita—so you'll never have trouble finding a place to crash. However, expect to pay a premium for your stay, as Key West ranks as the most expensive hotel rooms in the country, with an average room costing around $490 per night.'
Here are the categories Key West placed top 5 in:
First for the Number of Clubs and Bars
First for the Average Number of Parties on a Special Weekend
First for the Number of Late Night Food Venues
First for the Number of Hotels
Second for the Average Number of Festivals
Daytona Beach took fourth place on BonusFinder's list, for its abundance of late-night food and entertainment options, while ranking low in the safety category.
'The city does have its downsides—bars close earlier than some of the top-ranked party cities, with last call at 2:30 AM,' the study says.
'Additionally, Daytona Beach ranks 156th on the safety index, meaning visitors should stay aware, especially in busy nightlife areas.'
Here's how Daytona Beach placed in BonusFinder's individual categories:
Second for the Number of Hotels
Third for the Number of Clubs and Bars
Third for the Average Number of Parties on a Special Weekend
Third for the Number of Late Night Food Venues
Third for the Number of Casinos and Card Rooms
Third for the Average Number of Festivals
10th for Average Taxi Cost from the Airport to the City Center
11th for Average Price of a Meal in a Fast Food Restaurant
27th for Average Price of a Drink
38th for the Last Call at the Bar
46th for Nightlife Ranking
116th for the Average Number of Concerts on a Regular Weekend
151st for Average Price of a Hotel Room
156th on the Safety Index (32.06 out of 100)

Florida is hotter than your vacation

Tourists are flooding into Florida this Memorial Day weekend, headed to beaches, theme parks, and local hotspots. Meanwhile, locals are staying inside to avoid a record-breaking heatwave that feels more like July 2045 than May 2025. The holiday is considered the start of the summer. AAA's latest report said over 45 million people will travel this weekend, most of them will brave a road trip, hitting up each Buc-ee's along their way. But it's really hot. In 2001, the NRDC warned Florida about climate-driven catastrophe. Nearly 25 years later, those warnings read less like forecasts and more like headlines. This including a rise of sea levels and temperatures; damage to the Everglades, coral reefs, beaches, and coastal ecosystems; lower yields to Florida agriculture like sugarcane, tomatoes, and citrus fruits; and an increased risk of wildfires to forests, natural areas, and homes. There is also a higher risk for heat stroke, especially among senior citizens. Global warming presents Florida with serious challenges—challenges that threaten human health, economic prosperity, and treasured natural areas. The research indicates that over several decades, changes in sea level, average temperature, and weather will damage coastal property and beaches, water resources, human health, agriculture, and natural areas. "Feeling the heat in Florida" — NRDC, October 2001 NOAA's recent report included a forecast of increased activity for the 2025 Hurricane season, starting June 1. They predict 13-19 named storms, and 3-4 major hurricanes, yet some parts of Florida are still coping with recovery from last year's back-to-back hurricanes. There are steps the state can take to mitigate this harm. The NRDC suggested that Floridians actively reduce pollution, using more efficient and clean energy, and adapt. Yet two decades later, environmental measures in the Florida legislature aren't moving in that direction, with no help from the current federal government. But this doesn't stop the tourists, making tourism Florida's main industry. Some advice for vacationers from a Floridian: Make sure you pack lots of sunscreen, a sun hat, and a portable rechargeable fan. Seriously. Sunscreen. Wear lots of it during the day and try to stay out of direct sunlight. Even at the beach or pool. Northern winter skin cannot handle the UV levels in Florida. You will burn. It's not the souvenir you want to take home from your trip. Take a moment to rest somewhere cool at the hottest time of day (about 3:00 p.m.). It will probably rain at some point during the day, usually in the afternoon. Hurricanes are not just any other storm. If one is headed towards you, take it seriously. Florida is prone to flooding and storm debris, both of which kills more people than the actual storm. Advice from Tampa's celebrity meteorologist Denis Phillips: 'Don't freak out.' Be flexible and keep a positive attitude. Don't let the weather be the reason you have for unpleasant vacation memories. For tourists, Florida is still a playground. For locals, it's becoming a cautionary tale.

Airline deals, new flights and more style — even caviar — await summer travelers

A record number of Floridians will travel at least 50 miles from home over the coming Memorial Day weekend, echoing a trend expected across the nation with more than 45 million taking advantage of the holiday, AAA estimates. But the three-day weekend is also the unofficial start of summer and a time for airlines to offer new promotions, flights or amenities. Even Spirit Airlines is getting into the, shall we say spirit, by announcing plans to offer more legroom. AAdvantage miles American Airlines, Miami International Airport's most important carrier, has a promotion making it easier to use your frequent flier miles. The airline is selling more than one million main cabin seats on domestic flights — excluding Hawaii and Alaska — for 5,000 AAdvantage miles one-way. Trans-Atlantic flights one-way cost 15,000 miles. This is for travel in August and September. The promotion goes until May 28, 2025. There are no blackout dates, so you can book travel for any day of the week. Destinations in the U.S. include Miami, Chicago, Las Vegas and Orlando. And internationally, the deal covers Cancun, London and Rome. You have to be a member of American's AAdvantage program, but that's easy to join. And availability is first-come, first-served. The promotion has been going on for about one week. On Wednesday afternoon, for example, the American Airlines website listed one-way tickets in August available for 5,000 miles plus $5.60 in fees from Miami to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas-Fort Worth and Phoenix. NFL and NCAA American Airlines is also adding flights and seats to existing ones for the upcoming college and pro football seasons. That comes after January's Orange Bowl, which also served as the College Football Playoff Semifinal at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, when the carrier added flights for Notre Dame and Penn State fans heading to MIA. American, with a hub at MIA, is adding more than 22,000 additional seats to take fans to games, 'the largest ever schedule it has flown during football season,' the airline said in a statement. About half of the seats will be for NFL games. The carrier is adding flights for 28 NFL games plus all Green Bay Packer home games. They include three Miami Dolphins home games: ▪ Baltimore at Miami, Oct. 30 ▪ Buffalo at Miami, Nov. 9 ▪ Cincinnati at Miami, Dec. 21 In November, AA is adding an additional nonstop flight between MIA Miami and Madrid. That's for the Week 11 game on Nov. 16 between the Dolphins and Washington Commanders. Miami will play host in the NFL's first game ever at Bernabéu Stadium, home of European soccer juggernaut Real Madrid. Flights will be added for another six games featuring at least one AFC East team. American will also add more than 11,000 seats for college games, including two University of Miami Hurricanes games. Those are: ▪ Notre Dame vs UM, Aug. 31, ▪ University of Florida vs UM, Sep. 20 Family reunions Sports isn't the only catalyst for air travel. So is increased tourism and family visits between South Florida and Latin America. Starting May 10, Colombia's Avianca Airlines added non-stop flights between MIA and Guatemala City and between FLL and Managua. You can now also connect to San José, Costa Rica and San Salvador. Avianca now has 40 direct routes between the U.S. and Latin America and plans to add Chicago O'Hare to San Salvador, Dallas to Bogotá and from Bogotá to Córdoba, Argentina this year. Meanwhile, Chilean carrier LATAM said it will resume non-stop daily flights between MIA and Buenos Aires, starting Dec. 1. Partner Delta Air Lines will have a peak of 35 daily departures from MIA this summer, up by one from summer 2024. They're mostly in the U.S. Some large carriers lack a big presence in South Florida but are improving their service. United United Airlines is expanding United Polaris and adding eight seats in the first row of each business class section. The seats will lie flat and are 25% larger than typical United Polaris seats. They come with privacy doors, an extra ottoman seat, exclusive entrée options and an Ossetra caviar amuse-bouche service, the company said. But you'll have to travel to the West Coast to experience that. The carrier says it'll debut the new service in 2026 on its San Francisco to Singapore flight and San Francisco to London. Eventually though, all of its future 787's will come with the extras. United expects to have 30 such planes by 2027. Spirit Closer to home, Broward-based Spirit Airlines said in May that for travel starting July 9, planes will start to come with an enhanced premium section featuring four extra inches of legroom and new loyalty program benefits, including upgrades. MORE: Spirit Airlines just added several new 'comfy' benefits for travelers Whether you'll be tail-gating before kickoff, reuniting with family, or are just curious about the extra legroom, enjoy the weekend and the summer.
