Dundee's Simon Murray nominated for PFA Scotland Premiership Player of the Year

Hoops trio Daizen Maeda, Callum McGregor and Nicolas Kuhn are all in the running alongside the 33-year-old Dark Blues striker.
Celtic midfielder Arne Engels, Rangers striker Hamza Igamane, Hearts forward James Wilson and Motherwell midfielder Lennon Miller are the four contenders for the Young Player of the Year award.
Murray and Maeda are the Premiership's joint-highest scorers this term with 16 goals apiece in the league.
Murray, who scored the winner away to Hearts on Saturday, has notched 22 goals in all competitions after joining from Ross County last summer, while Maeda has 33 after stepping in from the wing to become Celtic's main striker following the departure of Kyogo Furuhashi in January.
McGregor, who won the award in the 2021-22 season, has been nominated after captaining the Parkhead club to a fourth consecutive title.
German winger Kuhn, who was widely deemed Celtic's best player in the first half of the season, took his tally for the season to 20 goals in all competitions when he scored a double in Saturday's 5-0 win at Dundee United.
The SWPL 1 Player of the Year award nominees are Hibernian's Eilidh Adams, Celtic's Emma Lawton, Rangers' Katie Wilkinson and Glasgow City's Samantha Van Diemen.
The winners will be announced at a PFA Scotland Awards dinner in Glasgow on Sunday, May 4.

Ange Postecoglou could make immediate management return to coach England star

Tottenham made the bold decision to sack Ange Postecoglou despite the Australian boss winning them the Europa League, but the 59-year-old is not expected to be short of offers amid interest from the Saudi Pro League Former Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou is said to be "seriously considering" a move to the Saudi Pro League to coach Al-Ahli after his brutal sacking by Spurs earlier this month. The Australian lost his job despite winning the Europa League for Tottenham, their first trophy in 17 years as he became only the third manager in their history to deliver a European trophy. ‌ But he still came under huge pressure after the team finished in 17th place, their worst ever finish in the Premier League and the only side to lose 22 games without being relegated. ‌ Spurs admitted it was "one of the toughest decisions we have had to make" as they insisted they couldn't be ruled by emotion in the wake of their cup success. Postecoglou has since been replaced by Thomas Frank, who arrived from Brentford, and the ex-Celtic boss is now looking ahead to the next chapter in his career. He has reportedly been approached by Saudi side Al-Ahli amid concerns that current boss Matthias Jaissle could leave the club after turning down a number of new contract offers. And according to the Sun, Postecoglou is attracted to the prospect of managing in the Middle East and is mulling over the Al-Ahli job should Jaissle depart. The report goes on to say that the 59-year-old also has interest from England and in Europe. It adds that he would be open to another job in the Premier League if the opportunity presents itself. If he does take over at Al-Ahli, Postecoglou would link up with England international Ivan Toney, as well as ex-Liverpool star Roberto Firmino, former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez and ex-Barcelona star Franck Kessie. ‌ Al-Ahli have just won the AFC Champions League, so he could inherit a situation similar to Frank at Tottenham where is succeeding a successful manager. Whatever Postecoglou's next move ends up being, he will be able to boast an impressive trophy record, having won silverware at almost every major team he's managed. He released a statement after his Spurs sacking, expressing his "pride" over his tenure and achievements. "When I reflect on my time as manager of Tottenham Hotspur, my overriding emotion is one of pride," he said. "The opportunity to lead one of England's historic football clubs and bring back the glory it deserves will live with me for a lifetime. "Sharing that experience with all those who truly love this club and seeing the impact it had on them is something I will never forget. That night in Bilbao was the culmination of two years of hard work, dedication and unwavering belief in a dream."

Ex-Liverpool star made Jurgen Klopp feelings clear after he didn't recognise him

Former Liverpool defender Brad Smith holds no ill will towards Jurgen Klopp despite being sold by the German. Klopp, 58, was at Anfield for barely six months before Smith's eight-year stay on Merseyside was brought to an end. The left-back, 31, had barely featured under Klopp's predecessor, Brendan Rodgers, since graduating from Liverpool's academy. And although it was Klopp who finally handed him his real first-team breakthrough, their relationship didn't get off to the smoothest of starts. The Reds' squad in late 2015 was dotted with talent, but not nearly the number Klopp sought as he looked to break a barren cycle without silverware. And Smith was seemingly among the more anonymous players when he first arrived. "We played in Sion on a frozen pitch [in December 2015]," Klopp told The Telegraph last year as he looked back upon his time at Anfield. "I learned a day before that we had Brad Smith and he stood right next to me in training and it was too embarrassing to ask him who he was." That admission is a surprising one considering Smith assisted Divock Origi in a League Cup quarter-final hammering of Southampton just days prior. Not only that, but it wasn't long after Klopp's arrival that Smith was awarded a new long-term deal, having been registered but without a contract prior to that. The Australian became a more frequent figure under Klopp towards the end of the 2015/16 campaign. He later flew home from Liverpool's pre-season tour of the United States to join Bournemouth, but he remains indebted to his old boss. "Every time I go back there with Bournemouth he'll give me a big Klopp hug and we'll have a little chat," said Smith in 2019. "He's a great manager and I owe a lot to him. "A great man. He just said, 'I think it's your time to go out and spread your wings and do what you need to do.' I owe a lot to Klopp for kind of bringing me back in and giving me a chance. He kind of shot my career up.' Smith eventually found his way to Major League Soccer in 2018 following a loan spell with the Seattle Sounders. He joined the club permanently in 2020 before subsequent moves to DC United and the Houston Dynamo. Currently playing for FC Cincinnati since March, the left-back has come to love his time in MLS. And it was thanks to Klopp's show of faith that his profile enjoyed enough of a bump for Bournemouth to take notice. He wasn't the only senior asset Klopp cut ties with in that summer of 2016 as fellow defenders Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and Jose Enrique also left Liverpool. It wasn't long before the manager's new imprint began to take shape at Anfield, plotting the path for his Premier League and Champions League successes in the years that followed. On the first anniversary of Klopp's Liverpool exit, Smith's tale stands as testament to the kind of relationships he built with his players, superstars or otherwise. Even if he didn't know who they were at the time... Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content. Celtic ‘target versatile rising Japanese star' for surprise summer transfer swoop

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) CELTIC have made versatile Japanese rising star Hayato Inamura one of their new summer transfer targets, according to a report. The 23-year-old currently plays for Albirex Niigata in the J. League and has two years remaining on his contract. The Parkhead side made plenty of forays into the Asian market during Ange Postecoglou's reign as boss as the likes of Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi, Reo Hatate and Yang Hyun-Jun. And with the transfer window officially opening this morning, they could make a splash in that market again. According to The Herald, the Hoops are working on a surprise move for Inamura. Inamura was signed from Toyo University in July of last year and has been playing regularly for Niigata this season. The Albi are locked in a relegation fight at the moment however, with Postecoglou's former club Yokoham F Marinos and their rivals Yokohama FC the three clubs in the drop zone. Celtic do currently have several options at centre-back including American duo Cameron Carter-Vickers and Auston Trusty, who have generally been first choice when fit. But both players have had their injury problems and there may come a time when Celts decide to cash in on one of them while they still can. Liam Scales has featured regularly in the centre of defence too and can also play at left-back if needed. Stephen Welsh is due to return from a loan at Mechelen in Belgium where he has made 17 appearances. The diggers move in as Celtic Park pitch is dug up Gustaf Lagerbielke has also been on loan but it looks likely he will be sold this summer and there has been interest from Poland for Maik Nawrocki. Kieran Tierney is now the only left-back with significant first team experience in the squad, with Greg Taylor set to depart and only youth graduates Adam Montgomery and Mitchel Frame behind him otherwise.
