Somy Ali recalls how Sanjay Dutt made her feel comfortable while shooting for 'Andolan'

She revealed that her nightmare was being an actress in the 90s when films were full of songs and dances, while not being formally trained in dance.

"I wasn't taught dance as many actors are in their childhoods in India. It's cultural & not only did I not have the training, I simply couldn't catch the beat or hear it. Like I said, special skill," Somy admitted.
She added that only
(Master ji) could make her dance, as she was terrified of her (Lol).
However, fortunately, for her, her co-star was Sanjay. She stated that she was extremely nervous while shooting for the song "Dil Toh Khoya hai Yahin pe Kahin pe," but as it turned out, she was wrong.
"Sanju is the most real, honest, kindest, & down to earth star ever. Similar to
, he's an actor 'for the people' that walk the streets to get from point A to point B. Sanju doesn't have a mean bone in his bod," Somy wrote on her IG.
She remembered, "He was extra nice to me and made me so comfortable that I was not at all nervous. Within five minutes of his talking to me about the U.S. and how much time he had spent there, I was way calmer."
Somy further revealed that during the "Dil Toh Khoya hai Yahin pe Kahin pe" shoot, Sanjay could see that she was freaking out and hence, he came up to her to break the ice and struck up a conversation to put her at ease.
He said, "don't worry I can't dance either. Just relax and have fun, considering we both are terrible at it," making Somy laugh, and calming her nerves in no time.
"I still have these memories like it was yesterday. Excellent co-star, & an amazingly kind & generous person," he added.
Somy also shared that she had the opportunity to meet with Dutt Saab (
) as her father's friend was Dutt Saab's very close friend.

Sanjay Dutt appears to be a happily married man today with his wife Maanayata Dutt and their twins, Iqra and Shehran. However, not many know that Maanayata is actually his third wife. Dutt's second marriage, to air-hostess-turned-model Rhea Pillai, lasted a decade (1998–2008). His first marriage to Richa Sharma, meanwhile, is remembered as a more tragic chapter in his life. Born in 1964 in Delhi, Richa Sharma soon moved to New York with her family. However, she continued to harbour a love for Hindi cinema in the US. A huge fan of late legendary actor Dev Anand, she met him in America and expressed her desire to work as an actor in Hindi films. Dev, however, explained to her that she was only 13-14 years old then, but when the time is right, he'd launch her in a Bollywood movie. Then came his 1985 directorial Hum Naujawan, for which Dev Anand auditioned and eventually selected Richa Sharma for her debut role. Interestingly, the film also marked the debut of Tabu, who continues to work as a formidable leading lady in Indian films today. Her breakthrough paved the way for her to star in films like Insaaf Ki Awaaz (1986), Sadak Chhap (1987), and Anubhav (1987). Richa began dating Sanjay Dutt, who was at the peak of his career, soon after her debut. After he proposed to her, she was hesitant that her parents would accept their relationship, given Sanjay's reputation of being a womanizer and a drug addict. However, the Khal Nayak actor promised to be a better man, following which the two tied the knot in 1987. A year later, they became parents to daughter Trishala Dutt. The happiest news of their married life was followed closely by the saddest news — Richa Sharma was diagnosed with cancer. It was a cruel irony since Sanjay Dutt lost his mother, legendary actor Nargis, to cancer too, that too days before the release of his blockbuster debut film, Rocky (1981), directed by his father and veteran actor, Sunil Dutt. Like his father did for his mother, Sanjay also took Richa to New York to get her the best treatment. However, given he was at the peak of his career, Sanjay couldn't take enough time out to visit his wife as he continued to shoot for films he'd committed to in Mumbai. The rumours of an affair with his Khal Nayak (1993) co-star Madhuri Dixit began doing the rounds. After being declared cancer-free, Richa Sharma returned to India, but wasn't even received by Sanjay Dutt at the airport despite calling him twice, as per what her sister Ena Sharma told the media then. Initially hopeful that Sanjay would leave Madhuri to come back to Richa, she soon saw reason and moved back to New York with Trishala. Sanjay also sent her the divorce papers, much to her shock. After finalizing divorce, Richa's cancer relapsed. Sanjay was in jail then, arrested under the TADA and Arms Act after the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts. Richa died a lonely death at the age of 32 in 1996 as Sanjay couldn't even visit her owing to his imprisonment. Their daughter Trishala was raised by her maternal aunt Ena and her maternal grandparents in New York. Back in the 2000s when Sanjay Leela Bhansali decided to make Devdas, he had two names in his mind Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan. Shah Rukh for the main lead and Saif for the role of Chunilal. However, things didn't work out and the role went to Jackie Shroff. Several reports suggested that it was Saif who turned down the role. However, that was not the case. According to the actor, it was Sanjay who moved on while the actor was still negotiating his fees. In an interview with journalist Nilufer Qureshi in 2001, Saif shared, 'Though Sanjay Bhansali thinks I'm silly, let me make it very clear that I didn't turn him down. There was a miscommunication between us on the price. Also, let me clarify that I didn't ask for an obscene sum of money. Without getting back to me and discussing the price, Sanjay closed the chapter. Nobody even told me that the negotiations were off till I called back to find out what was happening.' In the same interview, the actor shared that even if he was cast in the film, he would be a miscast. 'I felt I'd be hopelessly miscast as Chunilal. I didn't think the role suited Motilal either in Bimal Roy's Devdas. But at least, Motilal and Chunilal rhyme.' That was wrong, it hurt especially because I was at the start of my career. It's okay, because the day he dropped me, I signed Yaadein. Sanjay hurt me. Even if I have no work, I'll never work with him.' However, Sanjay denied the allegations confirming that he did take her screen test, but had made clear that it doesn't mean that she is finalised for the role. It has been 23 years since Devdas and till date, Saif and Kareena have never worked with him.
