Crocs promotes HeyDude president to chief brand officer role

Crocs Inc. has announced the promotion of Terence Reilly to the role of executive vice president, chief brand officer, effective immediately.
Reilly was previously brand president of HeyDude.
In this newly created role, Reilly will oversee the marketing and communications functions for both the Crocs and HeyDude brands. He will continue to report to chief executive officer, Andrew Rees, while collaborating with Anne Mehlman, executive vice president, brand president for Crocs, in addition to HeyDude brand leadership.
Rees will serve as the interim president for the HeyDude brand alongside the brand's senior leadership team until a permanent structure is announced, said the Broomfield, Colorado-based company.
A brand expert, Reilly has a track record of building brand identity, connecting to relevant culture and fostering consumer engagement and loyalty. Before joining Crocs in 2024, the executive worked at drinkware firm Stanley Brand, where he served a president. Prior to his time at Stanley, Reilly served as the chief marketing officer at Crocs, Inc., in addition to holding various other marketing leadership roles, from 2013 to 2020, after holding various senior level marketing and leadership positions.
"Since Terence rejoined Crocs, Inc. in 2024, the HeyDude brand has seen significant traction under his leadership. He has galvanized a team, sharpened the brand's strategic focus and re-established authentic connections with our consumers. I am confident that the green shoots we are seeing today are building the foundation for sustainable long-term brand growth," said Rees.
"With Terence in this new role and in partnership with our proven leadership team, this shift will create an elevated focus on driving heat and energy for both our brands and spark disruptive innovation as we engage with our consumers and customers around the world."
Earlier this month, ​Crocs Inc. announced a revenue increase of 1.4% in its first quarter, on the back of an increase in sales at its flagship brand, Crocs, where revenues increased 2.4% to $762 million.

Boots owner Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) files results every quarter but doesn't always give a huge amount of detail about the UK Boots chain. So it was useful to see Boots UK's latest set of accounts filed at Companies House, showing just how strong its recovery has been at least in terms of revenue. Boots UK is only one part of the wider Boost business but the figures for the leading UK health and beauty retailer do give us some insight. They cover the 12 months to the end of August last year during which time it operated 1,840 stores, down from 2,177 a year earlier. That fact was key as it helped contribute to the overall profitability of the business and boosted its margins. The Boots UK business is divided into Pharmacy (the sale of prescription drugs and pharmacy-related services, which accounts for a little over 30% of the total), and Retail, (which covers all the beauty, health and lifestyle products that it sells in its store stores and online). Retail makes up almost 69% of the business and the percentage has been skewing in its favour year on year. So first, let's look at the figures. Overall revenue during the year increased 3.7% to £7.313 billion. That followed an 8.3% jump in the previous year. Operating profit surged by an astounding 211.4% to £274 million (although that was heavily impacted by a one off benefit) and overall profit for the year was up an even more impressive 348.9% at £211 million for the same reason. As for that increase in profit, it included a one-off past service credit related to its pension scheme and excluding this, operating profit actually fell by £33 million. The fall was due to increased impairment related to stores and IT software, which more than offset the higher gross margin that it enjoyed. But it's clear that with higher margins from a rationalised store estate, profitability is moving in the right direction Earlier this year, the company warned that it faced increased cost pressures despite its stronger sales and was focused on navigating these. It's unclear how these might affect its business in the current financial year, although its parent company's next set of results might give some kind of clue. That said we won't be getting regularly-filed results from US-based WBA for that much longer given that it's being taken private by Sycamore Partners with the deal expected to complete by the end of this year.

Airline passengers in the EU enjoy the world's most generous system of compensation if their flight is delayed or cancelled. However these rights seem set to decrease after the European Council agreed to an overhaul of compensation rules, following intense lobbying from the airline industry. The agreement to extend delay times and cut compensation levels was made at a European Council summit, despite opposition from Germany and Spain. Controversially, the Council bypassed discussions with the European Parliament and made its decision legally binding using a process that has not been deployed in more than a decade. Advertisement However the European Parliament can still make changes to the new rules - it has four months to respond with a proposal that must be backed by a majority of 361 MEPs. So what changes? The ruling doesn't scrap all the customer protections, but it changes the rules on compensation payments - changing both the payment amounts and the delay time after which compensation rules kick in. Under current EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation rules, passengers can claim between €250 and €600 in compensation if a flight is delayed by at least three hours, if the delay is the fault of the airline. Under the agreed changes, compensation will only be due after a four-hour delay for flights of less than 3,500 kilometres. For longer flights, airlines would be obliged to pay compensation if flights land at least six hours late, compared to the current three-hour standard. Under the new rules, €300 compensation will apply for delays of more than four hours – while €500 will be payable for delays of more than six hours involving flights of more than 3,500km. In exchange for the higher delay thresholds, airlines will have to streamline the complex and obfuscatory compensation process - in which many airlines make it very complicated to claim financial compensation but very easy to claim airline vouchers. And what doesn't change? Other compensation rules remain unchanged, especially around the 'extraordinary circumstances' definition which covers whether airlines have to provide any compensation at all. Compensation for delays or cancellations is not paid if the problem is due to 'extraordinary circumstances' – the exact definition of this in the legislation is vague but it generally applies to situations like extreme weather, political instability, security risks or problems with air traffic control. Advertisement Strikes are usually not considered to be extraordinary circumstances, neither are routine mechanical problems or staff shortages. The rules cover airlines that are registered in the EU – such as the Ireland-based Ryanair – or flights taking off from an EU or Schengen zone country. Since Brexit the rules no longer apply to the UK, but the British government has mostly "copied and pasted" it into UK legislation. READ ALSO Fears EU plans to 'water down' air passengers' rights in review Also unchanged are rules on flight cancellations and airlines responsibility to provide food, accommodation and alternative travel for passengers whose flights are delayed or cancelled. In truth this is not well policed - passengers are often simply told to make their own arrangements for accommodation and alternative travel and submit compensation claims to the airline later. Airlines do, however, routinely provide refreshments, usually in the form of food vouchers to passengers whose flights are delayed. Why the change? In a word - lobbying. Airlines had argued that the compensation payments were too high, especially for budget airlines where the compensation may be higher than the cost of the ticket. Airlines also said that they were unable to provide a replacement aircraft and crew within three hours in many European locations, and that this can lead to additional flights being cancelled because high compensation payments have already been incurred. The change is not immediate, first the European Parliament has four months to stage any objections and if no objection is received, then an introduction date will be set. So we can say for sure that this summer holiday period will still be covered by the old rules.

Stablecoin bigwig Circle soars in debut on the New York Stock Exchange

The US-based issuer of one of the most popular cryptocurrencies made its debut on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday and quickly saw its value soar amid heavy interest from crypto enthusiasts and investors. Circle Internet Group issues USDC, a stablecoin that can be traded at a 1-to-1 ratio for US dollars, and EURC, which can similarly be traded for euros. Stablecoins are a fast-growing corner of the cryptocurrency industry that offer a buffer against volatility because they are pegged to real-world assets, like US dollars or gold. That makes them a much more reliable means of conducting commercial transactions than other forms of crypto. Interest in Circle's initial public offering is high. The company's underwriters priced the offering at $31 (€27.12) per share Wednesday, up from an expected range of $27 to $28. The number of shares being sold was raised to 34m from 32m. Circle is listed on the NYSE under the symbol 'CRCL'. The stock price soared above $96 at one point Thursday afternoon and landed at $83.23 by closing. Circle's initial public offering is one of the biggest public listings for a crypto-related company since the exchange Coinbase went public in 2021. The dominant player in the stablecoin field is El Salvador-based Tether, which has the stablecoin known as USDT that currently has about $150bn in circulation. USDC is the second most popular stablecoin market cap, with about $60bn in circulation. Circle said in a regulatory filing that USDC has been used for more than '$25tn in onchain transactions' since its launch in 2018. Revenue-wise the company has seen tremendous growth, going from just $15m in 2020 to $1.7bn in 2024. Stablecoin issuers make profits by collecting the interest on the assets they hold in reserve to back their stablecoins. Circle said USDC is backed by 'cash, short-dated US Treasuries and overnight US Treasury repurchase agreements with leading global banks'. Circle's IPO comes amid a push by the Trump administration and the crypto industry to pass legislation that would regulate how stablecoin issuers operate in the US. A Senate bill advanced last month with bipartisan support. There is also growing competition in the stablecoin field. A crypto enterprise partly owned by the Trump family just launched its own stablecoin, USD1. Circle said its long track record and values – the company says its mission statement is 'to raise global economic prosperity through the frictionless exchange of value' – will help it stand apart in the field. In three hours on Thursday, shares in Elon Musk's electric vehicle company plunged by more than 14% in a stunning wipeout, as investors dumped their holdings amid a bitter war of words between the president and the world's richest man. By the end of the trading day, $150 billion (€139bn) of Tesla's market value had been erased — more than what it would take to buy all the shares of Starbucks and hundreds of other big publicly traded US companies. The disagreement started over the president's budget bill, then quickly turned nasty after Musk said that Trump wouldn't have been elected without his help. Trump then implied that he may turn the federal government against Musk's companies, including Tesla and SpaceX. 'The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon's Governmental Subsidies and Contracts,' Trump wrote on his social messaging service Truth Social. 'I was always surprised that Biden didn't do it!' The drop on Thursday partially reversed a big run-up in the eight weeks since Musk confirmed that Tesla would be testing an autonomous, driverless 'robotaxi' service in Austin, Texas, this month. Investors fear Trump might not be in such a rush to usher in a future of self-driving cars in the US, and that could hit Tesla. 'The whole goal of robotaxis is to have them in 20 or 25 cities next year," Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives, said. "If you start to heighten the regulatory environment, that could delay that path.' He added that there's a fear Trump is not going to play 'Mr Nice Guy' anymore. However, Trump's threat to cut government contracts could be aimed more at another of Musk's businesses, SpaceX. The privately held rocket company has received billions of dollars for sending astronauts and cargo to the International Space Station, providing launches and doing other work for NASA. The company is currently racing to develop a mega-rocket for the space agency to send astronauts to the Moon next year. A subsidiary of SpaceX, the satellite internet company Starlink, appears to also have benefited from Musk's once-close relationship with the president. On a trip with Trump to the Middle East last month, Musk announced that Saudi Arabia had approved Starlink for aviation and maritime use. Though its not clear how much politics has played a role, a string of other recent deals in Bangladesh, Pakistan, India and elsewhere has followed, as Trump has threatened tariffs and sent diplomats scrambling to please the president. One measure of SpaceX's success: A private financing round followed by a private sale of shares in recent months reportedly valued it at $350 billion (around €325bn), up from an estimated $210 billion (about €195.3bn) a year ago. Now all that is possibly in danger. Tesla shares got an even bigger lift from Musk's close relationship with Trump, initially at least. After the presidential election in November, investors rushed into the stock, adding more than $450 billion (€418.5bn) to its value in a few weeks. The belief was that the company would see big gains as Trump eased regulatory oversight of Tesla. They also bet that the new administration would embrace Musk's plans for millions of cars on US roads without drivers behind the wheel. After hitting an all-time high on 17 December, the shares retreated as Musk's time as head of a government cost-cutting group led to boycotts and a hit to Tesla's reputation. They've recently popped higher again after Musk vowed to focus more on Tesla and its upcoming driverless taxi launch. Now investors aren't so sure, a worry that has translated into big paper losses in Tesla stock held by Musk personally.
