As the college football season is getting closer, we are learning much more about how Notre Dame will be featured in EA Sports College Football 2026.
We already know that head coach Marcus Freeman and star running back Jeremiyah Love are going to be on the cover, but what we found out on Friday was much more interesting. The team's overall rankings were announced, and surprisingly, the Irish offense was ranked higher than the defense.

EA Sports has the Notre Dame as the No. 8 offense, coming in with an 89-overall rating, while the defense has a better rating at 90-overall, it's the No. 11 unit in the game. Yes, technically Chris Ash's unit is rated higher, but others are viewed as better, while the offense is viewed as a top-10 group.
Notre Dame overall is the No. 5 team in the game, trailing just Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and Penn State, while being ahead of teams Iike Georgia, Clemson, Texas A&M, Oregon and LSU. There is no doubt that many of the people playing the game will choose to use the Irish, as they are one of the most well-rounded teams in the latest version of the franchise.

Hall of Fame horse trainer D. Wayne Lukas, a winner of 15 Triple Crown races, dies at 89
D. Wayne Lukas, the Hall of Famer who became one of the most accomplished trainers in the history of horse racing and a face of the sport for decades, has died. He was 89. His family said Sunday that Lukas died Saturday night at his Louisville, Kentucky, home. Lukas had been hospitalized with a severe MRSA blood infection that caused significant damage to his heart and digestive system and worsened pre-existing chronic conditions. 'Wayne devoted his life not only to horses but to the industry — developing generations of horsemen and horsewomen and growing the game by inviting unsuspecting fans into the winner's circle,' his family said in a statement. 'Whether he was boasting about a maiden 2-year-old as the next Kentucky Derby winner or offering quiet words of advice before a big race, Wayne brought heart, grace, and grit to every corner of the sport. His final days were spent at home in Kentucky, where he chose peace, family, and faith.' Lukas won 15 Triple Crown races, including the Kentucky Derby four times. Only good friend Bob Baffert has more Triple Crown victories, and Lukas owns a record-tying 20 in the Breeders' Cup World Championships. 'The whole secret of this game, I think, is being able to read the horse: Read what he needs, what he doesn't need, what he can't do, what he can do,' Lukas said in May before his 34th and final Preakness Stakes. 'That's the whole key. Everybody's got the blacksmith, everybody's got to the same bed available, the feed man. We all can hire a good jockey. We all can hire a pretty good exercise rider if we've got the means, so what the hell is the difference? The horse is the difference and what we do with him in reading him.' Doncic now has a full offseason with his new team. In February, he had to immediately make the adjustment to playing for his first franchise other than the Mavericks in the NBA. Doncic displayed signs of his MVP-caliber play in LA, but one has to imagine he will take a step forward after a full offseason of preparation with the Lakers. The 26-year-old averaged 28.2 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.5 assists and 1.6 steals per game. He also shot 43.8 percent from the field and 37.9 percent from beyond the arc. Injuries limited Doncic during the 2024-25 season, but he played well while on the floor. When healthy, Luka is an MVP candidate. The Lakers' outlook is intriguing. With LeBron James and Luka Doncic leading the way, they will likely be a serious contender in 2025-26. LA also needs to think about the future, though. They are beginning the process of building around Doncic while also still trying to compete in the near future. Advertisement If Doncic does indeed have extra motivation — which is being reported — he may even take a step forward. Although Doncic is becoming a veteran in the NBA, he still is only 26 years old. Luka could realistically get even better and that is a frightening thought for opposing teams.
