Ryanair says summer bookings remain strong, fares holding up
He also praised Boeing (BA.N), opens new tab for agreeing to deliver some jets earlier than scheduled, ending a run of delays that have curbed the airline's growth rate.
"We're seeing strong bookings through the peak summer months ... The fares are holding up," O'Leary said, adding that bookings were about 1% ahead of where they were at the same point last year.
He repeated a forecast from July that average fares were likely to rise by close to 7%, depending on close-in bookings for the remainder of the airline's key second quarter, which ends on September 30.
There has been no sign of consumers changing their plans due to heatwaves this summer, he added.
Boeing, which is due to deliver the final 29 aircraft of Ryanair's current order of 737 MAX jets this winter, has agreed to deliver seven jets in August and seven in September, ahead of an earlier-agreed schedule.
O'Leary was speaking in Tirana, where he announced a doubling of capacity to 4 million passengers per year and the basing of three aircraft at the airport from next April.

Binky Felstead displays her washboard abs in a skimpy bikini as she enjoys a lavish trip with partner Max Darnton
Binky Felstead flaunted her washboard abs in a bikini as she enjoyed a lavish trip to France with partner Max Darnton. The former Made in Chelsea star, 35, took to Instagram on Saturday to share a glimpse of her sizzling holiday style. She looked incredible in the blue two-piece as she danced under the sun while travelling around the the country in a yacht. Binky and Max, who have been married since 2021, looked happier than ever as they were joined by friends for their luxurious trip. In one snap, the former TV personality could be seen dancing in a little black dress while waving the England flag. Alongside her album of snaps, Binky penned: 'A day of salt water therapy & a lot of fun with a glorious crew' The trip comes after Binky opened up about a post-birth health issue which left her 'freaking out' and convinced she would lose her teeth. She was diagnosed with gum disease recently, which was beginning to destroy her bones and needed urgent attention. Binky is a proud mother-of-three and last gave birth in 2023 to a son named Wilder, who is now one. Following her diagnosis, Binky decided to share her story online with her Instagram followers, to spread awareness with other mums. Speaking to The Sun, she said: 'I was really worried about it and I actually only learnt through social media. By the way, hundreds of messages I got from other parents, other women, saying they've got the same. 'I think the old wives tale is that you lose a tooth per child. I don't know, I'm freaking out, I'm not going to have a tooth in ten years.' She added that there's 'lots of not so glamorous things' that happen after giving birth and having children. Binky said she has started having to do her greys, admitting that 'the good outweighs the bad'. She said it's 'important' to have these conversations on social media to normalise it, and that the fact it is common made her feel a lot better about it. Eight years after leaving MIC, Binky says she is 'kind of getting her MOJO back'. Binky is super relatable online with her fans, and always keeps it real. In recent weeks, she made a 'revolting' confession that she hasn't washed her make-up brush in 10 years during a mother-daughter makeover clip. India can be seen unleashing her creative spark as she layered on the bronzer and lined her mother's lips with a pencil. In the clip Binky confessed: 'Do you know your godfather, Ollie Locke? This was his makeup brush from about ten years ago and I have never washed it since. How revolting is that and I still use it?' India appeared unphased by the revelation and continued to layer on the bronzer until the TV personality persuaded her to stop. Motherhood is a vital part of Binky's life now and along with husband Max she appears to have the perfect fairytale family. She started dating her husband Max Fin January 2019 after they met at Soho Farmhouse and the couple later married in September 2021.

Global markets face shaky week ahead as US pressure mounts on Ukraine
LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Defence stocks and energy markets are likely to be in focus this week, as European leaders rushed to back Ukraine in talks with U.S. President Donald Trump that may pressure Kyiv to accept a peace deal favouring Russia. Investors are watching for signs that the U.S. may move closer to Russia in a bid to exploit vast, untapped Arctic energy resources, in a major geopolitical shift that piles pressure on Europe to rapidly boost defence spending. Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin ended their weekend summit in Alaska without securing a Ukraine ceasefire agreement, with the U.S. President then saying he now wanted a rapid peace deal that Kyiv should accept. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy is travelling to Washington on Monday for talks that leaders of nations including Germany, the UK and France will now join. "Trump seems inclined to reduce or even end US support for Ukraine. Putin got him interested in business deals," Berenberg Chief Economist Holger Schmieding said in a note to clients. "As a result, the US may lift its sanctions on Russia and invest in Russia instead," he added. "Europe will have to spend a lot more for its own defence." Investors have bet on that outcome since February 2022, driving a supercharged rally in European aerospace and defence stocks (.SXPARO), opens new tab with gains of over 600% for Leonardo ( opens new tab and 1,500% for Germany's Rheinmetall ( opens new tab. The euro has rallied 13% against the dollar this year and traded at about $1.17 on Friday. Bank of America strategist Michael Hartnett highlighted the potential for U.S.-Russia Arctic drilling projects to exploit 15% of the world's undiscovered oil and 30% of the world's undiscovered natural gas, resulting in a deep energy bear market. Brent crude, which dropped more than 1% to near $66 a barrel, on Friday, was still priced for a Ukraine peace deal, Hartnett cautioned, while Trump wanted lower energy prices for U.S. consumers . Ukraine's government bonds - key mood indicators - rallied when news of the summit emerged earlier this month but have stalled at a still-distressed 55 cents per dollar. "I would think they will be a bit weaker following the recent strength as the mood seems to favour Russia following Friday's summit," Aegon Asset Management head of emerging market debt Jeff Grills said.
