'I Can Never Be Madhuri And She Can Never Be Me': Can You Guess Which Star Said This?

1/8 The two stars shared screen space in Swati (1986). The romantic drama, directed by Kranthi Kumar, featured Meenakshi Seshadri in the lead as Swati, with Madhuri Dixit playing her stepsister. The film showcased both actresses' talents and is considered a significant work in their respective careers. (Image: IMDb) Damini (1993) was a groundbreaking film, and perhaps Meenakshi's career best too. Reportedly, director Rajkumar Santoshi fell in love with her, and ended up proposing marriage to her. However, the actor turned down Santoshi's offer, following which things turned sour between the two. Allegedly, the director wanted to replace Meenakshi mid-way; Madhuri was reportedly approached (among other actresses). (Image: IMDb) In a 2024 interview with Bombay Times, Meenakshi reiterated: "I can never be Madhuri and she can never be me." She dismissed the notion of rivalry, rather stating that she and Madhuri are unique and cannot be compared. (Image: Instagram) At the peak of her career, Meenakshi quit Bollywood and shifted to the US after her marriage to investment banker Harish Mysore. Madhuri, on the other hand, continued her reign as one of the most successful actresses in the Hindi film industry. (Image: Instagram)

Shruti Haasan says South stars are more humble compared to Bollywood: 'People with a lot of money won't dress up flashy'

Actor Shruti Haasan is winning praise for her performance in Coolie, which has crossed the ₹400 crore mark worldwide in less than a week. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter India, Shruti opened up about her experiences working in both the Hindi and South Indian film industries, and why she finds South stars more grounded than Bollywood actors. Shruti Haasan reveals why South stars are more humble. Shruti Haasan on why South stars are more humble Explaining her remark that South stars are more humble because they fear that if they lose it, 'Saraswati ka haath sar se uth jayega (Goddess Saraswati will withdraw her blessings).' She explained, 'I mean, it's hard to talk about being pious or anything of that sort in my home because my father doesn't believe in anything of that sort. But when I started working, I noticed those small things, like having coconut in the morning or having a photo of a deity sitting in the corner.' She added, 'There were rules regarding what was and wasn't allowed on set, and the actor and their staff were always very aware of how they presented themselves. I found there to be a higher level of awareness and consciousness in the South, compared to when I worked in the Hindi film industry. I think it's just a South Indian thing to do; you know, many people who have a lot of money won't dress up very flashy. They will still have that old Ambassador car for many years. It's just the psychology of the place, and it's very important to realise that we are merely vessels for art.' Shruti Haasan's Bollywood films While Shruti has enjoyed a flourishing career in South cinema, her journey in Bollywood has been less successful. She made her Hindi debut with Luck (2009) alongside Sanjay Dutt and Imran Khan, which underperformed at the box office. Subsequent films such as Dil Toh Bachcha Hai Ji, Ramaiya Vastavaiya, Welcome Back, Rocky Handsome and Behen Hogi Teri also struggled commercially. Her only Bollywood hit was Akshay Kumar's Gabbar Is Back (2015). Shruti Haasan's recent and upcoming work Currently, Shruti is basking in the success of Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Rajinikanth, Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj and Soubin Shahir. The film has collected over ₹200 crore in India within six days, despite stiff competition from Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's War 2. Up next, Shruti will be seen in a cameo role in Mysskin's Train, starring Vijay Sethupathi. She also has Prashanth Neel's Salaar Part 2: Shouryanga Parvam with Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the pipeline.

"Shodha gave me the scope to go intense and truly perform," says, Pawan Kumar

ZEE5 Kannada has dropped the gripping trailer of its upcoming original series Shodha, a psychological crime thriller set to premiere on 29th August. The six-episode series stars Pawan Kumar as Rohit – a brilliant yet morally ambiguous lawyer whose world turns upside down when his 'missing' wife suddenly returns… or is she an imposter? Rooted in Kodava folklore and packed with suspense, Shodha promises to take viewers on an edge-of-the-seat journey. Speaking exclusively with ETimes, Pawan shared how the role came to him. When the team of Shodha first approached me, they felt I would fit the character. The moment I got a glimpse of it, I knew it was something I wanted to explore. As an actor, I'm always drawn to roles that allow me to dive deep, go intense, and truly perform, and this role offered exactly that. It had also been a while since I was on screen, so the timing felt perfect," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Passive Income Ideas Sitting at Home Mone Click Here Undo For Pawan, the project was also about supporting Kannada original web content. ' Right now, Zee is the only platform that has truly stepped forward to create original Kannada web series . I wanted to be part of this to support and open the doors for more stories and opportunities in Kannada. As a creator, I believe it's important to build this ecosystem so that more jobs and projects emerge. If I, as someone with a certain recognition, take this up, it sets a precedent and encourages others to come forward too,' he explained. On the buzz around the trailer, Pawan remained grounded: 'The trailer is only a small glimpse of what the six episodes truly hold. In today's world, where audiences are flooded with content across languages, the fact that our trailer is already creating buzz is encouraging. But the real test lies on August 29th, when we'll see how viewers actually respond." Talking about his character Rohit, Pawan described him as layered and unpredictable. 'Rohit is a lawyer who knows how to turn situations in his favor, often by revealing only as much as needed. But what truly drew me to the role was exploring how he reacts when pushed into extreme emotional corners; that's where his real complexity lies. The team's openness to my inputs, both as an actor and as a creator, made the collaboration even more exciting" shared Pawan. The actor, known for portraying extreme and unconventional roles throughout his career, believes Shodha is another milestone. "Thankfully, audiences still remember and talk to me about my earlier characters. With Shodha, I felt well-prepared since I've performed similar intense roles on stage before. But this time, as the protagonist, I get to tell many stories through Rohit, and I truly hope that comes across when people watch it," he mentioned. Pawan concluded with optimism for the Kannada web industry, 'Even with the limited resources we have, it's encouraging to see the Kannada industry slowly opening its doors to web series. After Ayyana Mane, Shodha is yet another step in that direction. I truly hope this marks the beginning of a larger movement where more original stories are told, more talent gets a platform, and Kannada content carves its own strong space in the digital world in the coming years." Shodha premieres on ZEE5 Kannada on August 29.
