Goodbye Kia Ceed! Popular hatch has been sensationally killed off in the UK
While this crossover edition lives on, the Ceed in its hatchback guise, as well as the Sportswagon estate and ProCeed shooting brake, have ended production and sales.
Kia said: 'The end of Ceed family production frees up our manufacturing plant in Zilina, Slovakia to produce the EV4 – Kia's first European-built EV – as we prepare to offer an electric C-segment hatchback for the first time. It also frees up space on the production line for EV2, which will be manufactured in Slovakia from early 2026.' Advertisement - Article continues below
While Kia's all-electric range of EV-branded vehicles is growing, the Korean firm will maintain a spot in the internal combustion-engined hatch sector with the upcoming K4 - which we've already driven over in the US where it's already on sale.
The Ceed first went on sale in 2006 – with the 'Cee'd' name – and quickly became a huge success for Kia, thanks to its industry-leading seven-year warranty, attractive pricing and solid build quality. Lotus was even involved in the original Cee'd's suspension tuning, although it was never a hot hatch by any means.
While you can't buy a new Kia Ceed anymore you can check out the Auto Express Marketplace, where you'll find loads of great deals on used Ceeds, including the ProCeed and the Ceed Sportswagon.
Having launched a year after the third and final generation of the Ceed, the XCeed will continue to be produced in Slovakia for the UK market.

Paul Smith extends Fashion Residency programme to US with CFDA
British designer Paul Smith has expanded his brand's existing Fashion Residency programme to students in the US. In partnership with the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), for the initiative's second edition the Paul Smith Foundation will be selecting one American designer to join the residency at Studio Smithfield in London. The inaugural US participant, who will be part of the Paul Smith's Foundation x CFDA Designer-in-Residence, will join six UK-based designers in receiving a 400 square foot studio space for 12 months, supported by Projekt. Each designer will also receive mentoring from industry leaders, business-planning training, a visa, flights and living expenses. Applications for the second cohort of the programme have now been opened, with shortlisted candidates associated with the CFDA-led arm to begin interviews in September 2025. Designer Paul Smith will oversee the selection process alongside CFDA president, Steven Kolb, and vice president of program strategies/education and sustainability initiatives at CFDA, Sara Kozlowski. Launched in 2024, Paul Smith founded the Fashion Residency at Studio Smithfield programme alongside the Mayor of London and Projekt. Through it, select young designers are given access to set workspace and a training programme, the latter designed by the Paul Smith's Foundation, which matches participants with industry professionals. In a statement, Kolb said: 'Fashion is truly a global business, and an opportunity such as this will provide one American talent with invaluable experience and exposure in an international market. The chance to work alongside peers in the UK fosters creative exchange, builds cross-cultural understanding, and strengthens our industry as a whole. We are deeply grateful to Sir Paul Smith for his continued collaboration and dedication to nurturing the next generation of talent.'

Exclusive: Canada's statistics agency publishes data early, then takes it down
OTTAWA, Aug 14 (Reuters) - Statistics Canada posted market-sensitive information about June manufacturing data on its website ahead of the scheduled release date on Friday, the agency's website showed on Thursday. When Reuters asked why the data was visible, the agency took down the page immediately, indicating an error had occurred. "Statistics Canada takes this incident very seriously. We are conducting a thorough review and will determine whether additional safeguards are required to prevent a recurrence," said agency spokeswoman Maryse Carriere. A page from the monthly survey of manufacturing was visible on the agency's website early Thursday. The data was also accompanied by the previous month's revision. Carriere said StatsCan would proceed with plans to release the data on August 15 at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time (1330 GMT). The office of Industry Minister Melanie Joly, which has ultimate responsibility for the agency, was not immediately available for comment. Leaks of sensitive data are highly unusual in Canada. StatsCan takes a series of precautions to ensure figures remain under wraps. In May 2020, the agency launched an inquiry after employment data for April was leaked to Bloomberg half an hour ahead of the scheduled release time. The probe found no evidence that the data, which was routinely shared with a small group of senior officials ahead of time, had been leaked by agency personnel.

Majority of drivers have missed concerts, holidays and even WEDDINGS due to car troubles, survey shows
MOTORISTS are reported to have missed weddings, concerts – and even holidays due to car troubles. A poll of 2,000 motorists found 61 per cent have had their plans scuppered thanks to a car problems, with one in twenty of those completely missing a loved one's wedding. 1 Others have had to cancel holidays (five per cent), have missed flights (four per cent) and a job interview (four per cent). Family gatherings (11 per cent), day trips (eight per cent) and hospital appointments (six per cent) are also among the events that have been missed altogether due to car issues. With flat tyres or punctures (52 per cent), battery failures (39 per cent), and engine warning lights (28 per cent) the most likely faults to wreak havoc on journey plans. It also emerged summer is considered the worst time to experience car trouble, with 30 per cent confessing it's the season they have the most plans they rely on their vehicle for. The study was commissioned by Vixa – a car health assistant from The AA – which has teamed up with UK garage talent and So Solid Crew Member Lisa Maffia as part of their Garage Bangers campaign, to create a nostalgic summer track 'Keep it Rollin' in a car garage. It features real engine sounds and beats, aiming to raise awareness of how summer car troubles can ruin plans. Matt Barker from the brand, said: 'With summer upon us, many of us depend on our cars to enjoy holidays, share day trips or head to important events. 'Sometimes problems seem to come out of nowhere – leading to disappointment and frustration from drivers and passengers alike. 'Use of a car health assistant and regular maintenance checks can help you to stay on top of things and alert you to potential issues. 'There are some simple checks we can do to ensure our car is in the best possible shape. Drivers are 'hit with $600 fees over invisible damage' to rental cars - Hertz is leading the pack as AI up claims 'And hopefully the lyrics to this track will help people to remember what to do.' The research also revealed a quarter of motorists have turned down an invite or travel plan simply because they didn't trust their car to make the journey. Of those affected by car issues, 20 per cent put it down to trying to 'make do' with older vehicles. But 18 per cent admitted they lack knowledge about car maintenance – and often ignore strange noises coming from their motor which in turn has contributed to disruption to plans. When it comes to the summer months specifically, more than one in 10 experienced overheating engines, while nine per cent admitted to suffering a full tyre blowout. Overall, these incidents left nearly half feeling frustrated (49 per cent) and stressed (46 per cent). With one in seven (14 per cent) left embarrassed – and the same number felt guilty for letting others down according to the data. But while 40 per cent try to stay on top of their car's health – they do sometimes miss things. With 30 per cent opting to go to a garage in the event of a minor issue, whereas a quarter (26 per cent) try to fix it themselves. Matt Barker from Vixa added: 'From missed holidays to disrupted weddings, summer car trouble can throw a real spanner in the works. 'Garage Bangers brings that message to life in a fun and relatable way. 'It's all about helping people enjoy the moments that matter — and making sure car trouble doesn't get in the way.'
