North Yorkshire Council leader Carl Les said Armed Forces Day provided "an opportunity to look back and pay tribute to those who gave their lives to defend the freedoms we all enjoy on a daily basis".But it also "enables us to show gratitude for the roles our soldiers, sailors and airmen are currently playing around the world to keep people safe", he said.The RAF's Battle of Britain Memorial Flight was expected to form one of the flypasts at the event, featuring a Dakota, Hurricane and Spitfire.Charles Skiera, director of R5 Air Displays Ltd, said: "That will be particularly poignant in this, the 80th Anniversary of VE Day, with the sounds of the Merlin engines echoing around the South Bay."In addition, organisers said there would be flypasts by a 1930s Tiger Moth, Rich Goodwin in his jet powered muscle biplane, the Starlings Aerobatics Team and Sqn Ldr Nathan Shawyer, who gained his wings at the former RAF Linton on Ouse, in an RAF Typhoon.The Armed Forces Day event on 28 June is due to get under way at 11:00 BST with a welcome from the Scarborough Town Crier and is expected to run until 17:00 BST.

Kate and William's fresh start: Prince and Princess of Wales to move family to new eight-bedroom 'forever home' in Windsor after Kate's cancer battle
Prince William and Princess Kate are set to move their family from Adelaide Cottage to a new 'forever home' by the end of the year, an insider has said. The couple, along with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis, reportedly plan to relocate to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge property in Windsor Great Park. A source told The Sun the family are hoping for a 'fresh start' after a difficult time at Adelaide Cottage, during which Queen Elizabeth died and Kate and Charles received cancer diagnoses. Renovations are reportedly underway at the property to enable it to be ready for the family to move in before the end of the year. The publication reports that planning applications show how minor work has already begun at the Grade-II listed lodge, with renovations reportedly set to be funded by the couple themselves. A source close to the family reportedly told the tabloid: 'Windsor has become their home. However, over the last few years while they have lived at Adelaide Cottage there have been some really difficult times. "Moving gives them an opportunity for a fresh start and a new chapter; an opportunity to leave some of the more unhappy memories behind.' The home offers spectacular views and football fan William will be able to see the Wembley Arch from his bedroom window. And Kate has already been spotted picking new furniture to kit out the new abode, including a 24-seater table. The family first moved to Windsor in 2022, where they settled at the humble Adelaide Cottage. It is believed the move out of London was to allow the family to be closer to the late Queen, who died just weeks later, and to give the children a more ordinary way of life with more privacy. The family have no live-in staff at their current home, with this also reportedly set to be the case once they move into this bigger abode.
