Michael B. Jordan Breaks Down 'Technicality' of Playing Twins in ‘Sinners'
Michael B. Jordan took on double duty for upcoming horror film Sinners, playing twin brothers Smoke and Stack in the Ryan Coogler-helmed project.
'Somebody told me something about another guy walking around here looking like me, it's crazy,' the star joked at Thursday's New York premiere of the movie, which is set in the 1930s South and sees the brothers leave their troubled lives behind to start over in their hometown, only to encounter a greater evil upon their arrival.

Jordan told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet that the biggest challenge of playing twins 'was the technicality of how we shot both characters. I did every scene like four times, fives times, so I think the balance between going back and forth was difficult at times but you find a rhythm and after a while it was second nature. I had a lot of fun.'
The film also deals with the supernatural and involves vampires, with Jordan pointing to Vampire in Brooklyn and Lost Boys as two of his favorite films in the bloodsucker genre.
'Those are two ones that were pretty dope for me and I loved the cast and the storyline,' he added. 'Eddie [Murphy] was so smooth in Vampire in Brooklyn; seeing yourself as a vampire was pretty cool.'
Hailee Steinfeld, Miles Caton, Jack O'Connell, Wunmi Mosaku and Delroy Lindo co-star in the film, with the latter speaking about the musical elements present in the story.
'It's central to the foundation of this narrative, it's central to the history of this culture and central to the history of this country,' Lindo said, as Wunmi Mosaku added that there's 'blues music throughout the whole movie' which helps provide for a unique combination 'rooted in community, love, music, inspiration, ancestry, hope — and then also vampires.'
O'Connell teased that he was 'living my best Beyoncé life on this one' when it came to the musical scenes, and promised viewers 'whatever you think it is, think again. But guaranteed it's a good night out — or day, whenever you're going to see it.'
Sinners hits theaters April 18.

This clever slasher-comedy follows a group of Black friends who head to a remote cabin to celebrate Juneteenth. While exploring the cabin's game room, they stumble upon a board game called "The Blackening," which features a racist caricature mascot on the cover and pieces that correlate to each member of the group. To their horror, they find themselves locked in while a "Saw"-esque broadcast explains that they must compete in "The Blackening," a trivia-based game on Black culture, if they want to survive. To make it through the night, they'll have to rely on their wits along with their deep knowledge of horror movie clichés. "The Blackening" is hilariously self-aware, poking fun at classic genre tropes while still delivering suspense and surprises. The entrepreneur, 41, has teamed up with Nara Organics in support of The 2am Club, a social campaign which aims to share insight into the pressures placed on mothers during their feeding journeys and the urgent need for maternal mental health advocacy. To announce the partnership, Hilton shared a personal photo of herself breastfeeding one of her three children via Instagram on Friday, June 6. 'Each person's feeding journey is unique, and I'm excited to support @Narababy as an investor,' she wrote alongside the photo, in which she looks at the camera as her newborn nurses. 'Their innovative baby formula, launching this spring, is something I'm truly proud to be a part of. ‘Sinners' bonus feature: See how the gnarly makeup effects came to life
From its music to cinematography, special effects and production design, Ryan Coogler's Sinners was a cross-departmental masterclass, which undoubtedly helped to make the period vampire flick the breakout hit of the year. And now, as the movie makes its way onto digital platforms, we're getting more of a peek behind the curtain to see how it all came together. Coogler had originally become aware of prosthetic makeup designer Mike Fontaine's work after seeing Jeremy Saulnier's brutal container thriller Green Room. "I hadn't been that viscerally moved by makeup since I saw The Thing," Coogler says in the featurette. "It kind of left a mark on me." Once onboard, Fontaine met with Coogler to hear directly from him about what his goals for Sinners' makeup were and to land on a shared point of view. "Ryan and I were having a conversation early on, and I started to get a sense of what his vision was for the film," Fontaine says. "The process for me always begins with the script and the initial images that come to mind. From there, Fontaine went off to begin a months-long process that evolves from drawing to paintings and sculpting, some of which you can see in the video above.
