(SAD) is now looking at a possible alliance with 'Azad Group' — a coalition of leaders from varied backgrounds, including sarpanches, municipal councillors (MC) and grassroots representatives.
After reaching an initial understanding, there is a possibility that the group might merge with SAD during a rally in Jhabal on July 20. This event is expected to serve as a public platform to formalise the emerging partnership, signalling SAD's broader outreach strategy to bring independent and cross-party local leaders into its fold. MC Sanjeev Kundra, a key leader of the Azad Group, said senior SAD leaders had been invited to the Jhabal rally.
He said there was a strong possibility of Azad Group merging into SAD, with a joint strategy likely to be announced for the upcoming Tarn Taran byelection.
Led by political influencers Ram Namdhari and Paramjit Singh Pamma, the Azad Group comprises leaders from the Congress, BJP, and other parties. The group positions itself as a non-partisan front aiming to field a clean and development-focused candidate for the welfare of Tarn Taran constituency.

Recently, the Azad Group inducted an educationist, Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa, and it is rumoured that she could be fielded as the SAD candidate for the upcoming elections. "Everything will be clear on July 20," said Randhawa.
SAD Tarn Taran district president Alwinderpal Singh Pakhoke confirmed that the party has been invited to attend the Jhabal rally. While he did not share the details, he acknowledged there was a possibility of the Azad Group joining SAD.

The MHA raised constitutional concerns, arguing that removing judicial discretion in sentencing violated established legal norms and Supreme Court rulings, sources said. State govt, however, said it had received no official communication either from the Centre nor the governor's office about these observations. Earlier, bills similar to Aparajita, like Andhra Pradesh Disha Bill, 2019, and Maharashtra Shakti Bill, 2020 - which had mandatory death penalty for all rape and gang-rape cases - were passed unanimously by state legislatures, but did not get President's assent. Trinamool Congress indicated the party would make it a political issue. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: "The returning of the Aparajita bill is unfortunate, deplorable and condemnable... This has proved that BJP is unwilling to impose maximum punishment in these cases, as their members are implicated in molestations and rapes."

Lucknow: Cricket enthusiasts, players and administrators will keep a close eye on the much-awaited election of the Cricket Association Lucknow (CAL) scheduled to be held on Saturday. A total of 155 voters, including 34 executive members and 121 club representatives, will cast vote. Before elections, these voters would decide on the mechanism of voting – through ballot or raising of hands – by majority vote. "CAL is prepared for both the mechanisms, as ballot papers have also been printed," a member told TOI. Trichy police tighten security ahead of PM's visit
Trichy: Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's two-day visit to Tuticorin and Ariyalur districts for participating in various govt events, Trichy city police have beefed up the security arrangements as the PM is scheduled to stay in the city on Saturday night. On Friday, police personnel and sniffer dogs were deployed near a private hotel in Cantonment and the govt circuit house complex at TVS Tollgate. They inspected the premises of both establishments and curtailed public movement in the areas.
