Beer permit of Seymour gas station revoked after underage sale citation
SEYMOUR, Tenn. (WATE) — A Seymour gas station has had their license to sell alcohol revoked after being cited by the Sevier County Sheriff's Office.
Jimmy's Market #12, located at 12221 Chapman Highway, was served a notice from the Sevier County Beer Board on Monday that their beer permit has been revoked. According to the sheriff's office, the business was cited in November for an underage sale.

Under state law, no new permit or license can be issued for the same premises for one year. The board may issue a new permit before the end of the one-year period if the applicant is not the original holder of the permit or any family member who could inherit it from them.

Oak Ridge Police increase patrols in Scarboro neighborhood after block party shooting
OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Oak Ridge Police Chief Robin Smith said the department has increased patrols in the Scarboro neighborhood following a shooting that injured multiple over Memorial Day weekend. The shooting occurred at a block party around S. Benedict Avenue in the early hours of May 25. Nine people were shot and one person was stabbed. All ten victims survived. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — The Knoxville Jewish Alliance is implementing additional security measures amid a national rise in antisemitic incidents. We have seen several attacks on the Jewish community in recent months. On Sunday, a man was accused of throwing Molotov cocktails during a pro-Israel demonstration. Two weeks ago, two Israeli embassy staffers were shot and killed leaving an event at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington DC. 'In 2024, the Anti-Defamation League, which is a primary organization that tracks antisemitic incidents in the United States, recorded over 9,500 incidents, which was a 5% increase over 2023 and that was the highest total,' Knoxville Jewish Alliance President Judith Rosenberg. 4 more victims ID'd in Colorado fire attack, bringing number of injured to 12 Rosenberg believes the attacks on Israel on October 7, 2023 has only perpetuated antisemitism. New Tennessee law criminalizes AI technology for child pornography creation
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Beginning on July 1, 2025, it will be a crime in Tennessee to create or share technology specifically designed to create or facilitate the creation of AI-generated child pornography. The legislation, sponsored by Senator Ken Yager (R-Kingston), was signed into law by Governor Bill Lee on April 24, and it will take effect on July 1. The law makes it a felony to 'knowingly possess, distribute, or produce any software or technology specifically designed to create or facilitate the creation of AI-generated child sexual abuse material.' Possession will be a Class E felony, distribution will be a Class C felony and production will be a Class B felony. Locals, tourists recall major Gatlinburg crash that injured seven 'When in the wrong hands, artificial intelligence has the ability to make exploitive crimes even worse,' said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Director David Rausch. 'I applaud the General Assembly and Governor Lee for seeing the value in strengthening our state's laws to better protect Tennesseans, and I'm proud our state is leading the way on common sense measures to ensure this emerging technology doesn't become a dangerous tool for bad actors.' Yager said the goal of the bill was to combat the rise of AI-generated child pornography while preserving legitimate AI applications. A release from his office explained that the legislation does not broadly ban AI, but targets tools with the intent to generate child pornography. The senator worked with the TBI to create the legislation. 'This law is about keeping pace with rapidly evolving technology to protect our children from unthinkable exploitation,' said Yager. 'Bad actors are using AI to create disturbing and abusive content, and Tennessee is taking a strong stand to stop it. By criminalizing the tools used to generate AI child pornography, we're giving law enforcement what they need to pursue offenders and protect victims.'
