Boy, 4, killed in bus crash just 5 days after ‘one in a million' aunty found dead at home as double tragedy rocks family
A FAMILY has been hit by a double tragedy with a four-year-old boy being killed by a bus just one week after his aunt suddenly died. "Sweet and funny" Jan was hit by a bus outside a hospital while visiting his gran, and sadly died from his injuries despite desperate attempts to save him. 7 7 7 He was struck down outside the A&E department of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother (QEQM) Hospital in Margate, Kent, at around 4pm on Thursday. Little Jan was the youngest of five siblings and his family are "beyond devastated". But his death also came just six days after his aunt "suddenly and unexpectedly" passed away. Jan's cousin Kyia, 32, told The Sun the family is "beyond broken" having lost a baby of the family in "another horrific way" so soon after her mum died. She said in a touching tribute: "I can't believe I'm even writing this. "He was just four-years-old, the youngest of five. His mum and four older siblings along with the family are beyond devastated. "Not only did I lose my mum six days ago, now but we have now lost one of our babies of the family in the most horrific of ways. "I have no words what is even happening to my family at this moment in time, it's unbearable." Kyia's mum Taz Green - who is the sister-in-law of Jan's mum - "suddenly and unexpectedly" died the day before turning 52. This was just two months after her gran passed away in yet another tragedy for the family. Taz, a mother-of-five, was discovered dead at her home in Ramsgate, Kent, by her teenage son on Sunday morning. Paramedics were called to Taz's address at roughly 11am. Despite their best efforts, the grandmother-of-one was pronounced dead at her home. Her family are now waiting on the results of an autopsy to uncover the circumstances surrounding Taz's tragic death. Taz leaves behind her husband Peter, her five children Kyia, Jack, Jay, Kian and Kaelen. Kyia said: "We are in such desperate need of our mum. "Mum was such a free spirited, life of the party kind of wonder woman - none of us ever thought she would not be here. "My mum loved horses and anyone who knows mum knew that and we would love to have my mum a horse drawn carriage because she was a queen and she deserves the very best send off. "We all feel helpless and I don't know what to do without her." 'I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAPPENED' A GoFundMe was set up by the Jan's mum to help pay for his funeral. It reads: "My name is Azaria, today on the 7th of August 2025, me and my family went to visit our mum at Margate hospital. "And my son who is only four-years-old fell under a bus and he died immediately. "I am so lost, he was my son, my most beautiful little Jan. I don't know what to do I can't believe you are gone from me. "I can't believe they couldn't save you, I can't believe this happened. "I didn't even get to tell you how much I love you. "Please if anyone can help us to make his burial as beautiful as he was please I will be so grateful. "Everyone is devastated, but that word doesn't feel like enough to explain how we are all feeling. "Our sweet funny boy with a cheeky smile that could make anyone's heart full. The smile that we can't see again. Can't hold him. Can't cuddle him. Can't hear him. Can't have him sleeping in my bed tonight. "But I can try to give him the best and most comfortable burial. My baby I wish you were in my bed tonight cuddling. I love you my boy." Cops have appealed for anyone with information to get in touch. A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Witnesses, CCTV and dashcam footage are sought by officers investigating a fatal collision in Margate. "Kent Police was called to Ramsgate Road shortly after 4pm on Thursday 7 August 2025 following a report of an incident involving a bus and a pedestrian outside Queen Elizabeth Queen Mother Hospital. "The bus, a white single decker vehicle, was travelling near the entrance to the A&E department. It is reported that the pedestrian, a four year old boy, left the hospital on foot and a collision took place. "The child was taken inside the hospital and a short while later was sadly confirmed deceased. His next of kin has been informed." The ambulance service said: "SECAmb were called at approx. 16:05 yesterday (07/08/25) to reports of a collision involving a bus and a pedestrian outside the QEQM Hospital in Margate. "Crews assessed and treated the pedestrian at the scene before being joined by The Air Ambulance Charity, Kent Surrey Sussex. "The patient was then taken into the nearby QEQM Hospital where it is understood they sadly died. Please contact Kent Police for more information." 7 7 7

'Particular gap' on race related issues in PSNI, says officer
There has been a "particular gap around race related issues" in policing in Northern Ireland for a long time, a senior officer has said. Andy George, who is also the President of the National Black Police Association in the UK, said he is concerned the Police Service of Northern Ireland's (PSNI) Race and Ethnicity Action Plan still leaves a lot to be done. The plan comes against the backdrop of a rise in the number of race hate crimes, including rioting in Ballymena in PSNI has also faced criticism for its inability to better reflect wider society in its composition, with about 50 of its 6,200 officers being from an ethnic minority background, according to its own data. The action plan states that, nationally, it is accepted there is racism, discrimination and bias in Chief Constable Jon Boucher said the plan represents "our commitment to our ethnic minority communities, ensuring everyone in Northern Ireland feels safe, supported and respected".However, speaking to the BBC's Good Morning Ulster programme on Friday, Mr George said that while he welcomed the launch of the plan, he said it has "taken us a while to get here".He said in 2022, the National Black Police Association surveyed just over 20 police officers from ethnic minority backgrounds in Northern Ireland, and that "every single one of them, 100% of those people had heard racism within the workplace". "Within the last two years, our members have said that their experiences have got worse," he added. 'What gets measured, gets done' Mr George said one of the main shortfalls of the plan is there is "no real statutory" drivers in Northern Ireland for the chief constable and others to be held accountable for ethnic minority communities. "What gets measured, gets done," he said. Adding that he has seen a number of police forces across the UK launch "glossy brochures, race actions plans, developed with a lot more resourcing than what the PSNI have put forward, and they have failed to deliver".Mr George told BBC News NI about 4.5% of applicants in the last two PSNI recruitment campaigns were from an ethnic minority background, but said "they're just not getting through the process"."That's why it's disappointing when you do read the plan and you see that it doesn't actually commit to tackling that."
