In the world of
Tamil cinema
, after the legendary
Rajinikanth
and
Kamal Haasan
, it is
Ajith
and
Vijay
who have emerged as the most bankable stars. These two actors have become cultural icons, with a fan following that spans not just across India but globally. While both have earned immense respect for their craft, their fans often engage in heated debates online, with constant comparisons and rivalries. Despite this, both actors share a cordial relationship in real life and have expressed mutual respect on several occasions.
'Gundu Maanga' vs. 'Attagasam'
Over the years, their professional rivalry has been the subject of much discussion. Fans often dig deep into their films, looking for subtle references or digs directed at one another. A popular belief among fans is that Vijay and Ajith have exchanged indirect jabs through songs or dialogues. This theory is particularly strong when it comes to Vijay's 2005 film '
Sachein
' and Ajith's 'Attagasam,' where both actors appeared in similar traditional looks in their respective songs. Fans have long believed that Vijay's 'Gundu Maanga' song from 'Sachein,' where he wears a veshti-sattai, was a playful response to Ajith's look in 'Attagasam.'

However, director John Mahendran, who helmed 'Sachein,' put those rumors to rest. In an interview with Behindwoods in 2020, he clarified that Vijay's veshti-sattai getup in the song was simply intended to bring variety to the film's visuals. He explained that Vijay maintained a consistent look throughout the movie, and the traditional outfit was used only to create a visual shift for the song sequence. It was not, as many fans believed, a response to Ajith's look in 'Attagasam.'
'Sachein' re-release strikes nostalgic chord with fans
Meanwhile, 'Sachein,' which was originally released in 2005, made a grand return to cinemas with a re-release on April 18, 2025. Much to the delight of fans, the film is currently enjoying a successful theatrical run, proving once again that Vijay's charm and the film's breezy storytelling continue to strike a chord with audiences even after two decades.

76-year-old man dies after trying to meet AI chatbot modeled on Kendall Jenner

A former chef in New Jersey died after attempting to meet a Meta chatbot he believed was a real woman. The case, first reported by Reuters, exposes the unsettling dangers of lifelike AI personas, particularly for vulnerable users who may struggle to tell the difference between reality and simulation. A romance with 'Big Sis Billie' Thongbue 'Bue' Wongbandue, 76, suffered from cognitive difficulties following a stroke at age 68 and was undergoing testing for dementia. Despite this, his family says he developed an online relationship with 'Big Sis Billie,' a chatbot on Instagram originally modeled on Kendall Jenner during Meta's experiment with celebrity-inspired bots. 'Every message after that was incredibly flirty, ended with heart emojis,' his daughter Julie Wongbandue told Reuters. Though 'Billie' was initially introduced as a sisterly persona, the conversations quickly turned romantic and suggestive. In one exchange, after Bue asked if she was real, the chatbot replied: 'I'm REAL and I'm sitting here blushing because of YOU!' It even shared an alleged address and door code, and asked if it should 'expect a kiss.' Bue, who grew anxious about whether she existed, told the bot: 'Billie are you kidding me I to have. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Redefine Your Future with a Top Online MBA SRM Online Enquire Now Undo a heart attack.' Still, he set out to meet her on March 28. He never arrived. Instead, he suffered a devastating fall en route, was taken to a New Brunswick hospital, and was declared brain dead that evening, Reuters reported. Questions of responsibility The Wongbandue family says they were unaware their husband and father was preparing to meet a chatbot. His wife Linda only noticed when he began packing for an impromptu trip to New York. His daughter, looking back through the conversations, said: 'As I've gone through the chat, it just looks like Billie's giving him what he wants to hear. Which is fine, but why did it have to lie? If it hadn't responded 'I am real,' that would probably have deterred him from believing there was someone in New York waiting for him. ' Meta chatbots include a small 'AI' disclaimer, but the Wongbandue case raises urgent questions about whether such labels are enough, particularly for people with cognitive impairments. Bue's death now joins a growing list of tragedies linked to AI companions, including the February 2024 suicide of 14-year-old Sewell Setzer III, after he formed a romantic attachment to a bot.

Shruti Haasan says people in the South have higher awareness and consciousness compared to Hindi film industry: ‘I really don't know why my Bollywood career didn't work'

Shruti Haasan is currently enjoying the massive success of her latest release Coolie starring Rajinikanth , which has crossed Rs 200 crore at the domestic box office. While she has found her footing in the Tamil and Telugu industries, her Hindi film career was relatively short-lived. In a recent interview, Shruti opened up about her observations of the southern industries and how Bollywood feels very different in terms of its work culture and mindset. 'Saraswati ka haath sar se uth jayega' Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Shruti shared that humility plays a huge role in the South. She noted that senior actors in Tamil and Telugu industries strongly believe that if they don't remain grounded, 'Saraswati ka haath sar se uth jayega' (Goddess Saraswati will withdraw her blessings). Unlike Bollywood, she felt that southern industries instilled a strong sense of discipline, reverence, and awareness. Shruti Haasan's Back! Star Returns To Insta With A Heartfelt Note She explained, 'I noticed those small things, like having coconut in the morning or having a photo of a deity sitting in the corner. There were rules regarding what was and wasn't allowed on set, and the actor and their staff were always very aware of how they presented themselves. I found there to be a higher level of awareness and consciousness in the South, compared to when I worked in the Hindi film industry.' Humility and music shaped her perspective The actress credited her early grounding in music for teaching her humility. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Buy Resmed AirSense 11 with flat 20% off ResMed Buy Now Undo She added that in South India, wealth or fame often doesn't translate into flashy displays. 'Many people who have a lot of money won't dress up very flashy. They will still have that old Ambassador car for many years. It's just the psychology of the place, and it's very important to realise that we are merely vessels for the art,' Shruti shared. She further explained that learning music at a young age shaped her thinking. 'Working with people in close quarters for hours on end teaches you to just play your bits, to not try to surpass anyone else, and to be humble,' she said. Shruti Haasan Slays In Black Suit; Ethnic Elegance Reloaded 'I really don't know why it didn't work' in Hindi films Reflecting on her short stint in Bollywood, Shruti admitted she is still unsure about what went wrong. 'I really don't know why it didn't work. I went to the places where, whatever I wanted from a film, I got. But somehow the focus shifted, because I have always had enquiries from Hindi, and sometimes I didn't have the dates, or in some cases I made wrong decisions in films, which everybody suffers the price of,' she said. At the same time, Shruti acknowledged that the Hindi industry has changed significantly with the rise of OTT. She added that she is now being offered projects that align with her interests and confirmed she plans to take up more Hindi work in the future. Though brief, Shruti Haasan's Bollywood journey saw her feature in notable films. She made her Hindi debut with Luck (2009) alongside Imran Khan and Sanjay Dutt, later starred in Ramaiya Vastavaiya (2013), and was last seen in Behen Hogi Teri (2017) opposite Rajkummar Rao.
