Condemnation of 'appalling' attack on man falsely accused and stripped by gang in Tallaght
The incident on Saturday evening saw the innocent man assaulted by a group of youths in the Parkhill Road area of Kilnamanagh in south-west Dublin.
The man, who is aged in his 40s, was stripped of his pants and underwear by the gang during the vicious attack.
He was brought to Tallaght University Hospital for treatment of his injuries according to gardaí.
Garda sources said they're satisfied the man was not behaving inappropriately and was wrongly targeted.
Jennifer Murray, who lives in the area, said she and others came upon the man after the incident and helped him to receive treatment in the immediate aftermath.
He was 'covered in blood head to toe pleading for help' and was recorded by passersby using their phone while in the distressed state.
'He was a gentle man and he was stripped, he was attacked. He told us what happened, that they punched him in the head first. He had about an inch and a half gash above his eyebrow, and then about an inch above his other eyebrow,' Murray said
'Then they took his head and rammed it into a lamppost three times.
'Then they all punched him and kicked him, and they stripped his shoes, off his trousers, off his underwear off. They took his phone and they took his money, and then they left him for dead.'

Murray described how she used her cycling gear to compress the wounds on the man's skull.
'His legs were completely saturated in blood,' Murray said. 'The blood had actually congealed so much we had to cut his jacket often to check for wounds on his chest.'
She said she believed the incident was 'pure racism, leading to innocent people being attacked.'
Local councillor Mick Duff said it was an 'appalling' incident and needed full investigation.
'There's no place for this type of behavior in our society today, absolutely none, and it's fueled by conspiracy theorists and far-right material,' Duff told
The Journal
.
'What sort of a society turns on a person like that? I mean just by judging the person by the colour of their skin and the fact that they were walking alone.
'I sincerely hope that the guards fully investigate this and appeal to anybody who has any form of information to come forward and give it to the guards.'
Gardaí seek information on attack
A garda spokesperson said that gardaí were appealing for information in relation to the incident.
'Gardaí in Tallaght were alerted to an incident at Parkhill Road, Tallaght, Dublin 24 on the evening of Saturday 19th July, 2025 at approximately 6pm,' a garda spokesperson said
'Gardaí attended the scene and a male, aged in his 40s was taken to Tallaght University Hospital with injuries.
'Anyone with information is asked to contact Tallaght Garda Station 01 666 6000 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111.'

Four women, one man arrested in pro-Palestine protests in Dublin
Five people were arrested in various locations this week amid a series of actions and protests related to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza . A woman was arrested and later released after protesters sought to block a car from leaving the Egyptian embassy on Wednesday. Three women and a man were then arrested on Thursday at a separate location in Dublin, said by the protesters involved to be the Department of Justice , and later released. The Wednesday protest at the continued closure of the Rafah crossing between Palestine 's Gaza Strip and Egypt took place after a public meeting at the nearby US embassy in Ballsbridge. READ MORE It is understood the woman who was arrested approached the Egyptian embassy to hand in a letter of protest. A spokesman for An Garda Síochána said gardaí were alerted to a public order incident and directed individuals to leave. 'One female, aged in her 40s, was arrested under the Public Order Act and taken to a Garda station in Dublin south central. She was released without charge to be dealt with under the adult caution scheme,' the spokesman said. Three women and a man were arrested on Thursday at a separate location in Dublin and later released. A Garda spokesman said the force was alerted to a public order incident on St Stephen's Green at approximately 2.45pm, again instructing them to vacate. 'Three women (30s and 40s) and a man (50s) were arrested under the Public Order Act and conveyed to a Garda station in Dublin city centre,' he said. 'They have all since been released without charge, to be considered under the adult caution scheme.' Sara White (39) told The Irish Times she was one of the four pro-Palestine protesters brought to Pearse Street Garda station. Ms White said the members of a 'rainbow coalition group' of activists were protesting at the Department of Justice when the arrests took place. They planned 'to deliver a letter to the Ministers demanding [the] recalling of the Dáil so they could put pressure to open the borders to Gaza and let aid in,' she said. 'We had posters, we had pots and pans, we made noise, we asked repeatedly to speak and hand-deliver our letter and were refused.' Ms White said the group was there for 30 to 40 minutes before gardaí came, after being warned that they were trespassing. Ms White said the four were placed in cells and released at approximately 6.30pm without questioning. Activist group Mothers Against Genocide shared a statement on social media on Thursday afternoon demanding the release of the four people who were arrested, which it said included one of their own members.

Waterford landlord and son who blackmailed and intimidated woman have sentences suspended
A Waterford landlord and his son have had their sentences suspended for blackmailing and intimidation of a former tenant in their appeal case. John Guiry (50) and his son John Frampton (28), of Ballygarron, Kilmeaden, received prison sentences for intimidation and coercion last March. Guiry received a four-month sentence for coercion. Frampton received an eight-month sentence for making an unwarranted demand, with menaces, of the woman to immediately vacate her family home. The woman claimed Guiry said he wanted her out by May 5th, 2024, or he would be 'sending people' to the property. READ MORE On May 2nd, 2024, five hooded men approached her at the property. One man, understood to be Frampton, threatened to kill her if she didn't leave. The encounter left the woman and her teenage daughter 'terrified', the court heard. On July 23rd, State Solicitor Frank Hutchinson outlined the facts of the case in court in Waterford before Judge Sarah Berkeley. The court heard that May 2nd, 2024, a woman living in a rented property in Larchville reported to the Garda that a gang of five men had arrived to her home, dressed all in black with their hoods up and tied. Three men stood at the wall of the front garden while another man approached the woman and made threats to kill her and 'everyone in the house' if she didn't leave the property. He told her: 'You've had plenty of notice to get the f**k out of here. I'll be back and kill you and everyone in the house.' The women pointed to the packed boxes in the house and said she was 'getting ready to go'. The hooded man said : 'You better go or I will be back.' The woman's teenage daughter was inside the house at the time of the encounter and witnessed the threats. She took a photo of the men and the vehicle they used. The vehicle was later identified as belonging to Frampton. The woman and daughter recognised the man making the threats as their landlord's son, based on his appearance. The victim told gardaí that she had been in a dispute with her landlord Guiry over moving out of the property and had gone through proceedings with the Residential Tenancies Board (RTB). The RTB said the termination notice as invalid and ordered the woman to be paid €4,500 in damages. Mairead Deevy BL represented father and son in their appeal. Ms Deevy said that the accused offered their apologies to the victim and her family and 'had written letters to that effect'. Guiry told gardaí he was running on the Waterford Greenway at the time of the incident. Defence counsel told the court the tenant had been renting the property since 2013. In 2023, Guiry spoke to her about moving out of the property because his own daughter 'fell pregnant' and needed a place to live. Ms Deevy said: 'The tenant, quite correctly, didn't want to go as rent was €750.' Over the following months, the woman tried to find other accommodation but failed to secure a new home. The termination notice issued by Guiry was deemed invalid by the RTB. Ms Deevy said that meant Guiry would have to 'start the process all over again'. 'Rather than go through the legal means, they took the law into their own hands.' The defence presented photos taken of the house in the aftermath in the event, which purportedly showed the property as being left in a 'poor state' after the incident. Judge Berkeley was also provided character references for the defendants. Ms Deevy later said: 'I can only say it was a moment of madness.' Judge Berkeley said: 'Yes the house was left in a fairly bad state but there was no excuse for what happened.' The judge suspended both sentences for 12 months and ordered them to pay €4,500 to the victim. 'I think at this stage they've learned not to take the law into their own hands,' the judge said.
