Check out the funniest photos in the 2025 Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards
While there are chuckles to be had, the mission is serious. Under the banner 'Conservation through competition', the Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards work to raise awareness. Founded in 2015 by photographers Paul Joynson-Hicks MBE and Tom Sullam to celebrate the lighter side of wildlife photography, the awards showcase how funny wildlife photography can help promote wildlife conservation efforts.
'Our world is extraordinarily beautiful and interconnected, yet the human race is doing its best to over-exploit and damage it,' says Joynson-Hicks. 'Issues of wildlife conservation and sustainability are gaining momentum globally, yet the messages and images tend to be negative, depressing and enervating.'
Professional and amateur photographers can submit their wildlife snaps for free until 30 June and this year's winners will be featured in an exhibition at Gallery@Oxo, London, in December.
In the meantime, here are some of our favourites of this year's submissions.

"This was taken in Japan where I was observing a White-Tailed Sea Eagle putting their fish in a hole and protecting it. This one had a fish and saw another Eagle coming in to try and steal it." - Annette Kirby.
"A lava lizard takes charge of a Galapagos marine iguana and sets off on a ride. Judging by the iguana's possessed eyes, lava lizard may have taken over its soul, too. These two silly billies were hanging out with a big bunch of marine iguanas on a rocky beach." - Rachelle Mackintosh.
Photographers have until 30 June to enter their photos in this year's Nikon Comedy Wildlife Awards.
Greenpeace activists stole the wax statue of French president Emmanuel Macron from the Musée Grévin on Monday before planting it outside the Russian embassy in Paris.
According to reports, activists posing as tourists entered the famous Parisian museum, located in the 9th arrondissement. After posing as museum employees, they managed to steal the statue, worth €40,000, and hid it under a blanket.
A man who identified himself as a member of Greenpeace then contacted the museum to claim responsibility. The museum management immediately informed the police.
The activists then took the statue to the Russian embassy in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, brandishing placards and a banner saying 'Ukraine burns, business continues' to denounce France's economic ties with Russia – specifically French imports of gas and fertiliser from Russia.
Greenpeace said in a statement that it had "borrowed" the statue and explained their action on social media.
'For us, France is playing a double game,' said Jean-Francois Julliard, Director General of Greenpeace France. 'Emmanuel Macron embodies this double discourse: he supports Ukraine but encourages French companies to continue trading with Russia.'
He added: 'We are targeting Emmanuel Macron, because he has a particular responsibility in this situation. He is the one who should be at the forefront of European discussions to put an end to trade contracts between Russia and European countries.'

The protest lasted a few minutes before police intervened.
Two people have been arrested, and no news yet on when the wax statue will head back to the Musée Grévin.

Nvidia, AMD agree to pay US 15% of revenue from sales of AI chips to China
US semiconductor giants Nvidia and Advanced Micro Devices have agreed to pay the United States government 15 percent of their revenue from selling artificial intelligence chips to China, according to media reports Sunday. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang met with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Wednesday and agreed to give the federal government the cut from its revenues, a highly unusual arrangement in the international tech trade, according to reports in the Financial Times, Bloomberg and New York Times. The deal could earn the US government more than $2 billion, according to the New York Times report. The move comes as the Trump administration has been imposing stiff tariffs, with goals varying from addressing US trade imbalances, wanting to reshore manufacturing and pressuring foreign governments to change policies. A 100 percent tariff on many semiconductor imports came into effect last week, with exceptions for tech companies that announce major investments in the United States.

Is a presidential pardon on the cards for Sean 'Diddy' Combs?
Sean 'Diddy' Combs may not be able to count on a presidential pardon from Donald Trump. The rapper was found guilty on two counts of transportation for engaging in prostitution last month – but was acquitted of racketeering and sex trafficking. In a recent interview, the US president called Combs 'half-innocent', saying it's 'more likely a no' that he would be pardoned. 'Well, he was essentially, I guess, sort of half-innocent,' Trump told Newsmax host Rob Finnerty, adding: '[He's] still in jail or something, but he was celebrating a victory. But I guess it wasn't as good of a victory.' When asked whether he would consider pardoning Combs, Trump recalled that he was 'very friendly' with the rapper and that he 'got along with him great.' Indeed, Trump reportedly attended some of Combs' VIP parties in New York City and once called the rapper 'a good friend' during a 2012 episode of The Apprentice. However, Trump added: 'But when I ran for office, he was very hostile. It's hard, you know? We're human beings. And we don't like to have things cloud our judgment, right? But when you knew someone and you were fine, and then you run for office, and he made some terrible statements. So I don't know…. it makes it more difficult to do.' Last week, he asked a judge to release him on a $50 million bail as he waits to be sentenced on 3 October. Prosecutors opposed Combs' request and have said that they now expect Combs could face a prison sentence 'substantially higher' than the four to five years they once thought he was likely to face after his conviction. They believe the guidelines range 'will be substantially higher,' raising the risk Combs will flee. Judge Arun Subramanian can choose to ignore the guidelines, which are not mandatory, and Combs' lawyers have said they believe the guidelines, if properly calculated, will call for 21 to 27 months in prison.

Protest group calls for 'total blockade of France' in September
The prime minister's €40 billion cost-cutting budget proposals have drawn plenty of criticism from politicians, unions and members of the public, with some unions already floating the idea of demonstrations in the autumn. But a previously unknown online group has issued a call for a complete blockade of the country from September 10th, which appears to be rapidly gaining traction. The collection Mobilisation10septembre (demo September 10th) describe themselves as 20 "apolitical" people who are outraged over the budget proposals. Advertisement "We said to ourselves that we couldn't let this pass," one of the activists, who refused to give his name, told French media . "So we launched this appeal. It's not just a classic demonstration, but a real blockade." He added: "Across the country, care workers, students, low-wage workers, Yellow Vests etc, have started to organise locally." The group has shared no details of its exact plans for September 10th, saying only that the date had been picked because it's the time when everyone has returned to work or school after the summer holidays. Protest in France usually takes the form of either strikes called by unions or street demonstrations organised by political parties or established campaigning organisations such as Greenpeace. However the 'yellow vest' protests of 2018 and 2019 also began online and did not have an organised leadership or any affiliation with political parties. The unnamed activist told Le Parisien newspaper that the movement is "a call for disobedience, boycott and solidarity". "The movement doesn't depend on any party or organisation. It's a ras-le-bol général [a sense of being generally fed-up or angry]. "If people from all walks of life identify with it, it's precisely because the attacks in the budget affect everyone." Debates in parliament on the budget are due to take place in September and October, and it's possible that the prime minister could be toppled over the issue if he loses a vote of no confidence.
