$1m sacrifice as Reynolds rejects Sydney club for new Broncos deal — with one condition

Adam Reynolds has reportedly rejected a contract offer from Wests Tigers to finalise a one-year extension with the Brisbane Broncos, making a $1 million sacrifice to stay loyal.
CODE Sports reported on Saturday night that the Broncos captain and halfback had just knocked back a $1.5 million, two-year Tigers offer with the intention of staying in Brisbane, where he has played since 2022 and settled with his family.
The contract, for a season in which he will turn 36, would be for about $500,000 but come with the condition that post-playing career opportunities are included in the agreement. The Broncos would only entertain a one-year deal given Reynolds' age and their salary cap position. His deal for this year is reportedly worth about $550,000 and he has avoided a drastic cut, with claims earlier this season that the Broncos may only be able to offer $300,000.

Reynolds remains one of the NRL's premier game managers and kickers, and his retention will see him remain in the Brisbane halves mix with fellow veteran Ben Hunt and controversial star Ezra Mam.
The touted future of the Broncos' playmaking stocks, Coby Black, is still learning his trade in Queensland Cup football.
Reynolds would have partnered NSW Origin star Jarome Luai had he joined the Tigers, with Latu Fainu the club's longer-term prospect at No.7.
'Adam wants to finish his career at Brisbane,' his agent Steve Gillis said. 'His family is settled there, so that's what we are working towards.'
Brisbane, who have a bye this weekend, are seventh on the ladder as of Sunday, having endured a rocky 6-7 start under new coach Michael Maguire.
The club has been beset by claims about the coach's hardline approach leading to strained relationships with players, though Reynolds' finest NRL moment came when he won a premiership under Maguire with South Sydney in 2014.
CODE also reported that the Broncos were set to announce a contract extension for gun centre Kotoni Staggs within the next week.
The big unknown with their roster remains fellow flyer Selwyn Cobbo — who is off-contract, was dropped last week and could earn more at other clubs — while champion prop Payne Haas is weighing up the market despite a preference to stay at Brisbane

Crazy scenes as players rushed off field as bizarre 29-min lightning delay halts NRL clash

The Bulldogs have cemented their place at the top of the NRL ladder on a drama filled Sunday afternoon that saw play suspended for almost half an hour in the first half as lightning threatened Accor Stadium. Playing without Origin-bound quartet Stephen Crichton, Matt Burton, Max King and Kurt Mann, Canterbury were too good for Souths, claiming their 11th win of the season, 24-18. While the action on field was largely unremarkable, it was the severe weather event that was the headline act. FOX LEAGUE, available on Kayo Sports, is the only place to watch every game of every round in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership, LIVE with no ad-breaks during play. New to Kayo? Limited-time offer > Play was sensationally stopped in the 32nd minute when the NRL ground manager entered the field of play and ordered referee Adam Gee to bring the players off the field due to lightning in proximity of the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. 'We've got to go in, the ground manager has said, because of the lightning,' Gee could be heard telling players. Off the field security guards rushed to usher fans to areas under cover, while team and match officials, as well as camera operators and photographers were all forced to find safety. Visible lightning and thunder followed before the storm front passed without further issue, play recommencing after a 28-minute hiatus. The last time a NRL match was stopped in similar circumstances was on ANZAC Day in 2015 when the Roosters and Dragons left the field when a massive thunderstorm hammered Allianz Stadium. On that occasion play was suspended for half an hour. Earlier, Toby Sexton got things going for the Bulldogs in the seventh minute, feigning to kick on the last tackle before turning the ball inside to Jacob Kiraz, who in turn drew Jye Gray and shovelled it back to Sexton in support to cross over. Tries soon followed to Marcelo Montoya and Connor Tracey and inside 16 minutes the Dogs were outscoring the clock before rain began teeming down and play slowed ahead of the delay. Once the action restarted, Viliame Kikau crossed the line three times in five minutes for no points – twice held up and once called back for an obstruction, before Alex Johnston scored at the other end, grabbing a fortuitous bounce after Dogs winger Blake Wilson spilt a bomb. Both teams scored tries in the third quarter of the game and when Souths took advantage of the sin binning of Bulldogs' interchange forward Jake Turpin to score via Jack Wighton, they were within eight points with as many minutes remaining and the game was still there to be snatched. Tyrone Munro then touched down in the 78th minute after Isaiah Tass kicked from a scrum 40 metres out to get even closer, but in the end they ran out of time. The victory, following a 32-0 demolition in their annual Good Friday clash, ensured the Bulldogs won both regular season games against the Rabbitohs for the first time since 2011.

Adam Selwood's plan to run a half marathon to raise money for a mental health charity in honour of his brother Troy – who died earlier this year – emerged following the 41-year-old's death last month. Tragically he never made the date of the race. But in an incredible act of courage, the youngest Selwood brother Scott decided to run a marathon in honour of his two brothers, completing a punishing solo run for charity all alone in the cold wintry Melbourne conditions on Saturday. Selwood decided to run a marathon to help him grieve the loss of his brothers, while also raising money for Carrie Bickmore's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity. The 35-year-old Collingwood assistant coach decided to complete South Africa's Big Five Marathon in the wake of Adam's tragic death last month before later pulling out, with Hawthorn and Geelong premiership hero Isaac Smith taking on the task of replacing Scott in South Africa despite having a newborn at home. However, Scott still decided to run a solo marathon in honour of his brothers who were both avid runners. Scott, running in support of Bickmore's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer charity, completed his marathon, by running 42.2km around Albert Park in Melbourne in an impressive three hours and two minutes, an average of 4:19/km. The incredible act saw his brother Joel take to social media to write: 'You would have been forgiven if you weren't up for it today brother.' 'But instead you did it the hardest way possible — underprepared, freezing cold and ran alone against the clock. '42.2km and smashed it. Proud of you Uncle Scooter.' The Selwood boys – Joel, Troy, Adam and Scott Selwood after this year's grand final. Together Scott and Smith have raised more than $55,000 for charity. In a post to Instagram after completing the marathon Scott wrote: 'Not Africa but the importance to the cause stays the same!' 'I learnt some very hard lessons about being underprepared for a marathon also! So did my toenails! 'To everyone who has donated. a very big THANK YOU. This is an incredible cause and with incredible people. It wasn't meant to be for me in Africa but that's when you're lucky to have great people to step in and support (like) Isaac Smith. Good luck team!' Bickmore's Beanies 4 Brain Cancer took two dozen people to South Africa for the Big Five marathon and half-marathon. Smith – running in place of Selwood – finished in 5:33:22, just behind Carrie Bickmore's co-host Tommy Little (5:28:55). Richmond premiership players Brandon Ellis (5:06:11) and Trent Cotchin (5:12:08) also registered strong times. Selwood brothers, L- R Scott, Joel, Adam and Joel While Australian ultra-marathon athlete Nedd Brockmann won the marathon in a time of 3:15:31. It comes after Bickmore revealed last month that Scott had originally set out to complete the South Africa marathon to help him grieve the loss of his two brothers. 'It has been the most gut-wrenching time for the Selwood family, a much-loved football family who have tragically lost two brothers in very short succession,' she said last month. 'It is the most shocking situation for their family … in the midst of all of this, Scott decided he wanted to come on the Big Five adventure with us. 'At the time, it was something to give him purpose, to give him a reason to keep running every day, as he and his family were navigating their grief. 'And he was doing such an incredible job (before deciding to withdraw).' Originally published as Scott Selwood's heartbreaking and courageous final act for late brothers Adam and Troy
