Popular pizza restaurant closed down in town centre
A popular pizza restaurant in Swindon town centre has closed down as of Saturday, June 6. 'Pizza&Co.', located in Old Town along Newport Street has shut up shop, leaving a note on the door saying "We are closed. Sorry for any inconvenience." Residents will be disappointed that the pizza place had closed down, but it is not lost forever. In April, it was announced that the company would be relocating amidst the building on Newport Street being put up for sale. The building has been listed on Rightmove as a freehold investment opportunity for a guide price of £550,000. The listing states: "Prominent Newport Street, Old Town location. Due to relocation of the current business. Multi-purpose building with ground floor hot food/ takeaway and two residential apartments above. "Fully refurbished for the current restaurant business this property offers an excellent opportunity for a new food business to start trading along a busy high street with ample foot and road traffic. "The ground floor offers a sitting restaurant area with an accessible toilet leading into two large food preparation areas and a kitchen. There is also a dedicated room for fridge/freezers and additional staff toilets along with cellar/ basement storage. "Upstairs, this property can offer immediate rental income with two fully refurbished one-bedroom apartments with a potential income of £950 for the duplex and £850. The property will be sold vacant." As well as space for a food businesses, there are two residential apartments with one bedroom each above the premises. It is unclear where the pizza shop will relocate to, but it is likely that Swindonians will be able to get their take out for Pizza&Co. again in the future. Owner James Lavery opened Pizza & Co on August 3, 2022, serving up deep-pan American-style and Sicilian-based pizzas, loaded pasta, desserts and chicken parmo. In 2022, he said: "I am from Middlesbrough, a small town in the northeast of England, which isn't really famous for much. It has the transporter bridge and a half-decent football team but it is most well known for the chicken parmo. 'It's the most popular dish in Teesside and is served in every pub, restaurant, café and takeaway in Middlesbrough. Until recently, it has been predominantly found only in the northeast, but it has started to appear on menus across the UK. "The dish has even found its way to Westminster after a local MP wrote to the chefs in the House of Commons and asked them to put it on the menu.'
