Here's why Asda closed several stores across Glasgow
Asda said the shops were closed to allow 'planned overnight maintenance'. The stores that shut for maintenance were: Govan, Toryglen, Robroyston, and Maryhill.
In a statement to the Glasgow Times, the retailer confirmed its stores have since reopened.
After realising Asda had shut some of its Glasgow stores, confused Glaswegians took to Facebook to question why.

One said: "Just heard that Asda was shut early tonight. Hope everything was ok", to which one person replied: "Yeah, was (closed) at 9pm. I went to go in, don't know why though."
Meanwhile, another said: "Asda Toryglen shut", with a person replying: "Every Asda in every area is the same."
An Asda spokesperson said: "A few of our Glasgow stores closed at 9pm last night for planned overnight maintenance and reopened this morning.
"They're now open as normal, ready to welcome our customers, and we'd like to thank them for their understanding while the stores were closed temporarily overnight."

"This is emphasised by the fact the average price of unleaded in Northern Ireland is 7p cheaper than the average across the UK. He added that drivers should keep an eye out for the lowest prices around to buy the best value fuel. You can also use the RAC's free mobile app - myRAC - to find the cheapest fuel near you. Northern Ireland remains the cheapest place in the UK to buy fuel, with a litre of unleaded averaging just 128p and diesel 134.5p. M&S warning issued amid expiry dates for paper vouchers
Vouchers are a popular way to give someone funds to spend in the supermarket, but paper gift vouchers were phased out some years ago. Now, M&S is reminding customers that those with any must spend them before they expire soon. UK Supermarket Rankings 2025 Can I still use paper vouchers in M&S? Paper gift vouchers were issued by M&S directly to customers up until 2012 and to other businesses to 2016, and are in £1, £5, £10 and £25 denominations. However, from October 1, 2025, M&S stores in the UK will no longer accept paper gift vouchers as a form of payment. All paper gift vouchers must be spent by September 30. M&S says the move to modernise its gift voucher proposition is to "provide greater security for customers and provide more ways for them to redeem their vouchers". Until September 30, customers can redeem a paper gift voucher for products in-store. They can also exchange the paper gift voucher for a gift card, which can be used both in-store and online. If the total value of paper gift vouchers to be exchanged is £100 or less, this can be done in-store. If the value of the paper gift vouchers being exchanged is more than £100, ring the M&S contact centre on 0333 014 8000. Where can I buy a Marks and Spencer gift card? For those without paper vouchers but looking to buy an M&S gift card, there are a number of ways you can purchase one. 5 ways to save money on your weekly food shop Naturally, M&S vouchers are available in their stores and on the M&S website. They are also available in other supermarkets, such as Asda and Tesco. You can also find them at online retailers like Amazon and One4all. Recommended reading: When do M&S gift cards expire? Similar to M&S paper vouchers, the supermarket's gift cards also expire, but fear not, they likely have a longer life span remaining. As explained on the M&S website, gift cards and e-gift cards are valid for 48 months from the last transaction, which includes the initial card load, adding or spending funds, or balance enquiries.
