Today's Wordle #1510 Hints And Answer For Thursday, August 7th
How To Solve Today's Wordle
My apologies, dearest Wordlers. Yesterday was Wordle Wednesday and I just totally spaced it! I was kind of running around like a chicken with its head cut off and that got lost in the shuffle. So, for the first time ever, we'll do our Wordle Wednesday challenge on a Thursday!
Every Wednesday (except for yesterday) I give you fine puzzle-solvers an extra riddle, brain-teaser or logic puzzle to solve in order to keep things spicy. Here's today's, fitting for a Thor's Day (though just as fitting for an Odin's Day):
Odin has challenged five Norse gods—Thor, Loki, Freyja, Tyr, and Baldur—to each build their own mighty mead hall in Valhalla. Each hall is made from a different material and has a different capacity (measured in barrels of mead: 1000, 2000, 3000, 4000, 5000).

No two gods share the same material or capacity.
Can you figure out which god built their hall with which material, and how many barrels of mead each one holds?
Clues:
I'll post the answer tomorrow, on Freyja's Day. If you figure it out, shoot me a message on Twitter, Instagram, Bluesky or Facebook.
Now let's solve this Wordle!
Wordle is a daily word puzzle game where your goal is to guess a hidden five-letter word in six tries or fewer. After each guess, the game gives feedback to help you get closer to the answer:
Use these clues to narrow down your guesses. Every day brings a new word, and everyone around the world is trying to solve the same puzzle. Some Wordlers also play Competitive Wordle against friends, family, the Wordle Bot or even against me, your humble narrator. See rules for Competitive Wordle toward the end of this post.

BRIDE wasn't a very good opening guess. Really not sure what made me use it to begin with. Sometimes they just pop into my head and I run with what I've got. ROACH, thankfully, slashed 191 possible solutions down to just one: CORAL for the win! This word always makes me think of Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead. Behold:
The Bot and I each get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying. Our new totals are:
Erik: 4 points
Wordle Bot: 0 points
The word "coral" comes from the Latin corallium, which itself was borrowed from Greek korallion or koraillon, referring to the hard skeleton of marine animals used in jewelry and ornamentation. The origin before Greek is likely from a Semitic language, possibly Hebrew gōrāl or Phoenician, though the exact root is uncertain. The term originally referred to red or pink precious coral.

Today's Wordle Hints And Answer Wordle Bot's Starting Word: SLATE My Starting Word Today: CRATE (54 words remaining) The Hint: Herbal. The Clue: This Wordle ends in a 'Y'. Okay, spoilers below! The answer is coming! . . . Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here. CRATE was a very good opening guess today, leaving me with just 54 words, though I only had one green box. SOILY was my attempt to use all new letters. I wasn't even sure this would work because I wasn't sure if SOILY was actually a word. In fact, Wordle Bot said: 'Excellent choice. soily is one of the most efficient guesses in this situation. (I'm limited to more familiar words in suggestions to readers.)' I don't think I've ever seen that from the Bot before. In any case, I chose MINTY because the rest of the words I could think of all had double letters (like FIFTY or WITTY or KITTY). Lucky for me, it was the Wordle! The Bot and I each get 1 point for guessing in three and 0 for tying, which brings our August totals to: Erik: 4 points Wordle Bot: 3 points "Minty" comes from the noun mint (the aromatic herb, from Old English minte, from Latin mentha, from Greek minthē) plus the adjectival suffix -y, meaning 'having the qualities or flavor of.' It's been used in English since the 19th century to describe something tasting or smelling of mint. Today's Tricky NYT Strands Answers for Aug. 8, #523, Explained
Looking for the most recent Strands answer? Click here for our daily Strands hints, as well as our daily answers and hints for The New York Times Mini Crossword, Wordle, Connections and Connections: Sports Edition puzzles. Today's NYT Strands puzzle assumes you have deep knowledge of a very specific musical genre. Could be tough. I knew some of the answers, but not others. I did a little research and explain what the answers refer to further down in this story. If you need hints and answers to solve today's Strands puzzle, read on. I go into depth about the rules for Strands in this story. If you're looking for today's Wordle, Connections and Mini Crossword answers, you can visit CNET's NYT puzzle hints page. Read more: NYT Connections Turns 1: These Are the 5 Toughest Puzzles So Far Hint for today's Strands puzzle Today's Strands theme is: Kings of swing and bebop If that doesn't help you, here's a clue: Musical legends Clue words to unlock in-game hints Your goal is to find hidden words that fit the puzzle's theme. If you're stuck, find any words you can. Every time you find three words of four letters or more, Strands will reveal one of the theme words. These are the words I used to get those hints, but any words of four or more letters that you find will work: CHAD, CHAR, SAID, CANT, CHAW, WARD, FAST, STUD, COAT, LATE, SLATE, INCH, DRAT, DRATS, STAIR, FATE, COTS Answers for today's Strands puzzle These are the answers that tie into the theme. The goal of the puzzle is to find them all, including the spangram, a theme word that reaches from one side of the puzzle to the other. When you have all of them (I originally thought there were always eight but learned that the number can vary), every letter on the board will be used. Here are the nonspangram answers: DUKE, FATS, HAWK, COUNT, DIZZY, YARDBIRD, CANNONBALL (Duke Ellington, Fats Navarro, Coleman Hawkins, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie "Yardbird" or "Bird" Parker and Julian "Cannonball" Adderly) Today's Strands spangram Today's Strands spangram is JAZZCATS. To find it, look for the J that's three letters to the right on the very bottom row, and wind up. Quick tips for Strands #1: To get more clue words, see if you can tweak the words you've already found, by adding an "S" or other variants. And if you find a word like WILL, see if other letters are close enough to help you make SILL, or BILL. #2: Once you get one theme word, look at the puzzle to see if you can spot other related words. #3: If you've been given the letters for a theme word, but can't figure it out, guess three more clue words, and the puzzle will light up each letter in order, revealing the word.
