Turki Alalshikh promises record-breaking Riyadh Season, global comedy festival and major film projects

RIYADH — The General Entertainment Authority Chairman Turki Alalshikh has announced that the upcoming Riyadh Season will be "very different," with global surprises, top-tier performances, and blockbuster events.
In a video posted to his official X account, Alalshikh said the ongoing Esports World Cup, offering more than $70 million in prizes, has already energized Riyadh with momentum that will continue for weeks.
Among the biggest highlights is the World Comedy Festival, the largest of its kind, scheduled from September 26 to October 9 at Boulevard Riyadh City.
It will feature over 50 world-renowned comedians including Kevin Hart, Russell Peters, Sebastian Maniscalco, Whitney Cummings, Gabriel Iglesias, Bill Burr, and Andrew Schulz.
The festival will also host interactive activities, workshops, and daily performances representing various comedic styles.Alalshikh revealed the new Riyadh Season will spotlight Saudi, Gulf, and global content, with a notable presence from Syrian talent in theatre and concerts.He also teased major collaborations including shows with YouTube megastar MrBeast, international concerts, WWE and UFC matches, and the Royal Rumble set for January 2026 in Riyadh.The sports calendar will feature the Six Kings world tennis championship, where six of the sport's top stars will compete for the largest prize pot globally over four days in the capital.Beyond live events, Saudi Arabia is pushing into global film production. Alalshikh confirmed that filming will soon begin on The Battle of Yarmouk: Khalid ibn Al-Walid, an English-language epic with an international cast and crew, comparable in scale to films by Ridley Scott.Two other major projects are underway: one on the Saudi army, and another on anti-narcotics efforts. The military film will be written by Oscar-nominated screenwriter Robert Rodat (Saving Private Ryan, The Patriot).On the television front, Alalshikh revealed a new reality show being filmed in Scotland, a high-end comedy series starring Saudi actor Nasser Al-Qasabi, and an epic drama titled Abu Al-Muluk: Abdul Malik ibn Marwan, created by writers from Game of Thrones, Vikings, and The Last Kingdom.Another major production, Interpol, is in development alongside a Saudi action-comedy titled The Boulevard, directed by Mohammed Al-Mulla and filmed entirely at Boulevard Riyadh City, inspired by Night at the Museum.Alalshikh also confirmed the return of the hit game show Takeshi's Castle ("Al-Hisn") in a new, world-class version co-produced with its original Japanese creators, airing on MBC and Shahid.'Riyadh Season will deliver surprises unlike anything seen before,' Alalshikh concluded. 'We are working on content that will truly impress.'

Redline maintained its dominance in Rennsport, and GO1 achieved a surprising win over the previously dominant Xiao Hai in the Fatal Fury tournament. Team Spirit lost only one match on its way to the Dota 2 title. Team Vitality maintained an unbeaten record to claim the ML:BB women's championship. EVOS Esports achieved a decisive victory in Free Fire, with the brilliant 15-year-old player Rasyah earning the accolade of best player in the tournament. The Esports World Cup 2025 continues until 24 August, featuring over 2000 players representing 200 clubs. They will compete in 25 tournaments across 24 games for massive prizes totaling over $70 million. RIYADH: A heritage festival in Hail, northwestern Saudi Arabia, has concluded after attracting more than 95,000 visitors from across the Kingdom, Gulf region, and other international destinations. The 30-day Beit Hail Festival at Aja Park offered a mix of cultural, artistic, and heritage experiences, running daily from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m., according to the Saudi Press Agency. The event celebrated cultural heritage through handicrafts, traditional dishes, and Thamudic inscriptions, the SPA added. It featured an art pavilion showcasing notable artists, a resin art exhibit, folk theater, heritage-inspired residential models, and performances reflecting the culture of Asir province. Exhibits gave younger generations insight into how ancestors transformed natural materials into functional items, highlighting the ingenuity of Saudi heritage. More than 40 activities allowed visitors to explore traditional crafts such as wickerwork, sadu weaving, crochet, hand-woven textiles, and Najdi and Hail-style door making. Other highlights included traditional clothing, Thamudic embroidery, wood and leather beading, fiber arts, resin art, and soap making. The festival also served as a platform for local artisans to present their work directly to the public. Several government leaders visited the event, praising its efforts to revive memories of traditional life and showcase historical methods of meeting daily needs. Mauritanian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Mokhtar Ould Dahi also toured the festival, exploring stands and pavilions featuring local craftsmanship. He expressed admiration for the crafts on display, including wickerwork, sadu weaving, hand-woven textiles, and fiber arts, and commended the cultural performances for reflecting Saudi heritage. Separately, EU Ambassador to the Kingdom Christophe Farnaud visited the festival, praising the displays of palm frond weaving, sadu weaving, handmade textiles, traditional wooden doors, resin art, crochet, Thamudic embroidery, woodcraft, and leatherwork. Both ambassadors attended traditional folk performances, including the Saudi Ardah (sword dance), the Hail Samri (drum-accompanied poetry), and various artistic presentations from Asir region.

Built for the community across EWC's 25 tournaments, EWC_Extra features play-by-play content from tournament upsets and Most Valued Player performances to memes, creator posts and behind-the-scenes access. In tandem with the main EWC channel, it forms a two-part content ecosystem to reflect the scale of the world's biggest esports event. While the main channel delivers human stories and cultural context, EWC_Extra stays focused on the tournament action itself. Running until Aug. 24, Esports World Cup 2025 brings together 2,000 players and 200 clubs competing in 25 tournaments across 24 games for a record-breaking prize pool of $70+ million prize pool.
