Zaliha: Kota Madani name will be retained in future

PUTRAJAYA: The name Kota Madani that was chosen for the development of government quarters in Presint 19 will be retained as the main identity for modern housing and urban development, in line with the current government's aspirations.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories), Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa, said Kota Madani was not merely a current administrative name but a comprehensive concept embodied with the Malaysia Madani vision and the CHASE approach: Clean, Healthy City, Advanced City, Safe City, and Eco-Friendly City.
"So, it has no relation, as we hear outside, that this Madani name will not last when the government changes and so on. Because, for me, the most important thing is its comprehensive concept.
"For me, it doesn't just represent the current government because it's the result of an idea that originated from the current government, but it's more about the concept itself," she told the media during a briefing session here today.
Dr Zaliha expressed hope that the successful implementation of the Kota Madani concept in Putrajaya can serve as a development model for other regions and cities nationwide.
She also urged all parties to jointly convey the aspirations and meaning behind the Kota Madani development to the public, emphasising that it is not just a physical project but about the well-being of the people.
"For example, Kuala Lumpur is based on a city that has been built for a long time, and it's very difficult for us to create something comprehensive and inclusive there, which is why we came up with this new concept.
"God willing, in future developments, this concept will be adopted because its comprehensiveness extends to talking about the diverse benefits for the people," she said.
Spanning 41.28ha, Kota Madani will house 10,000 residential quarters for over 30,000 people and will be built vertically with high intensity.
It is designed with the integration of artificial intelligence technology, efficient digital infrastructure, and a green mobility system.
The project begins with the development of its first phase, expected to commence in September, involving the construction of approximately 3,000 residential units and a vertical school, which is anticipated to be completed and fully operational by the end of 2027.
The groundbreaking ceremony for Kota Madani is scheduled for tomorrow.

Dr Zaliha: RM4b Madani City to be fully transferred to government after 25 years, no public funds involved

KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 — The government will take full ownership of the proposed Madani City in Putrajaya 25 years after its completion, Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said today. She further said the RM4 billion development will be fully funded and maintained by the developer, Putrajaya Holdings, under a Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) model. 'This project does not waste public funds, as claimed by some,' she wrote in a statement posted on Facebook. Dr Zaliha said Madani City would also provide 10,000 new housing units for civil servants, addressing a current backlog of more than 17,000 unfulfilled applications. She stressed that the development is a necessity, not a luxury, as demand for government quarters far exceeds existing supply. Madani City, located in Precinct 19 of the federal administrative captial, spans just 102 acres — about 0.8 per cent of Putrajaya's total land area. 'It will not replace Putrajaya,' she said, countering what she described as a common misconception. She added that the project was designed in line with the government's vision of a clean, healthy, advanced, safe and eco-friendly city. The name 'Madani' reflects values of humanity, balance, justice and sustainability, and is not a political label, she added. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced the Madani City project on June 3, and is expected to officiate the groundbreaking ceremony tomorrow.

Puspanita launches volunteer squad to boost role in aid, relief efforts

PUTRAJAYA: The National Association of Wives of Civil Servants and Women Civil Servants (Puspanita) today launched the 'Puspanita Volunteer Squad', a new initiative aimed at strengthening the involvement of women civil servants in humanitarian work and disaster relief efforts. Puspanita patron Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said the establishment of the squad will yield meaningful outcomes for those in need, aligning with the core values of compassion and respect under the Malaysia Madani development agenda. "This squad is Puspanita's latest initiative, focusing on volunteerism in collaboration with relevant authorities and community groups. "We want more members of Puspanita to commit themselves to serving the people," she said at the closing ceremony of the 43rd Puspanita delegates general meeting and the official launch of the volunteer squad, here today. Dr Wan Azizah also highlighted the increasingly significant role of women in the public sector, with many now involved in legislative processes, policy development and national governance. "We now have more than 30 per cent of women in public sector decision-making positions. "Therefore, strong support from all of us is essential to ensure the nation's development agenda is implemented smoothly, systematically and with integrity," she said. She also urged women civil servants to be prepared for the challenges of the digital age and to harness the power of artificial intelligence (AI) to ease both professional and personal responsibilities. "Today's world moves rapidly, and technological advancements have changed the way we work, think, communicate, manage families and raise children. "We cannot afford to be left behind. "At the same time, take the time to understand, monitor and act accordingly to protect ourselves, our children, families and colleagues from the negative impacts of technological progress," she said. Also present were Chief Secretary to the Government and Puspanita Advisor Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar and Puspanita president Puan Sri Maheran Jamil.
