‘Global Council for Tolerance' welcomes UN decision to establish International Day for Peaceful Coexistence
ABU DHABI (WAM)President of the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace (GCTP), Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Jarwan, has praised the United Nations General Assembly for adopting a resolution designating January 28 as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence.Al Jarwan emphasised that this resolution highlights the urgent need to strengthen peace and understanding among diverse nations and cultures, particularly at a time when the world requires stronger bridges of dialogue and cooperation.He described the resolution as a significant step towards sustainable peace, conflict prevention, and the advancement of a shared vision for peaceful coexistence. He stressed that education, dialogue, and community engagement play vital roles in achieving this goal.Furthermore, he underscored the international community's commitment to inter-civilisational, intercultural, and interfaith dialogue, recognising cultural and social diversity as a source of strength for building stable and prosperous societies.Al Jarwan reiterated that peaceful coexistence is not merely an option but a necessity for achieving sustainable development. He commended this global initiative and the remarkable international consensus in endorsing the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, stressing that it will serve as an opportunity to enhance understanding among nations, strengthen human connections, and foster a more peaceful and tolerant world.He reaffirmed the Global Council for Tolerance and Peace's unwavering commitment to supporting initiatives and programmes aimed at spreading a culture of peace and reinforcing the values of tolerance and mutual respect.These principles, he noted, are fundamental pillars for building cohesive and sustainable societies that thrive on constructive dialogue and a heightened awareness of peace and tolerance, ensuring a more stable and prosperous future for all.Additionally, Al Jarwan highlighted the importance of actively observing this day by organising awareness campaigns and events that reinforce the principles of peaceful coexistence, encouraging societies to work together in resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
He stated that this resolution paves the way for greater international collaboration in combating all forms of discrimination and violence while upholding human rights for all.

7 Aug 2025 00:16 NEW YORK (WAM)Aid agencies warned on Wednesday that most partner organisations providing vital relief across Gaza will likely have to shut down their operations within weeks, unless Israel withdraws its demand that they provide sensitive information about Palestinian development, which also applies to the occupied West Bank, is a result of the Israeli requirement introduced on March 9 impacting international non-governmental organisations (NGOs).'Unless urgent action is taken…most international NGO partners could be de-registered by 9 September or sooner – forcing them to withdraw all international staff and preventing them from providing critical, lifesaving humanitarian assistance to Palestinians,' said UN and partner aid organisations that are known collectively as the Humanitarian Country Team in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT).The UN understands that organisations must now submit, amongst others, details of representatives and all employees in-country, including Palestinian and foreign workers, with full identification and contact foreign worker recommendation requirements, applications must now include marital status and family details, including spouse and children's passport numbers and country of UN agencies still operate in Gaza, working closely with NGO partners to reach the war-torn enclave's most vulnerable people. International NGOs are key as they provide critical support to Palestinian NGOs in the form of supplies, funding and technical support.'Without this cooperation, their operations will be severed, cutting off even more communities from food, medical care, shelter and critical protection services,' said the Humanitarian Country Team, which is overseen by the UN's top aid official in OPT and includes heads of UN agencies and more than 200 local and international NGOs which have not registered under the new system are prohibited from sending any supplies to last month, Israeli authorities rejected repeated requests by 29 of them to ship humanitarian aid to Gaza, citing the organisations as 'not authorised'.'This policy has already prevented the delivery of lifesaving aid including medicine, food, and hygiene items,' the humanitarian collective said. 'This most profoundly affects women, children, older people, and persons with disabilities, further aggravating the risk of being subjected to abuse and exploitation.' In a statement urging Israel to reconsider its demand for sensitive employee information from NGOs, the humanitarian country team insisted that impeding its work violates international law 'when we are receiving daily reports of death by starvation as Gaza faces famine conditions'.

UAE conducts 64th airdrop, delivers 45 food trucks into Gaza
The UAE on Wednesday conducted its 64th airdrop operation and delivered 45 trucks carrying food into Gaza, as the Palestinian population of the enclave continues to face deadly starvation following months of an Israeli blockade. Hospitals in Gaza confirmed five additional deaths linked to famine and malnutrition in the past 24 hours, raising the total number of such fatalities to 193, including 96 children. The Gulf state's latest airdrop, under "Operation Chivalrous Knight," was done in coordination with Jordan and with the participation of France, Germany, and Belgium, state news agency Wam reported. These operations "aim to deliver relief supplies to areas that are difficult to access by land due to the current field conditions." The aid includes various essential food items and emergency humanitarian supplies. With Wednesday's operation, the total amount of airdropped aid has reached over 3,851 tonnes since the start of the UAE's initiative. The UAE reaffirmed its commitment to working in coordination with regional and international partners to ensure the sustained delivery of aid to those in need in Gaza, through air, land, and sea, reflecting its deep-rooted humanitarian principles and its global leadership in relief and aid efforts.
