Union home minister Amir Shah to review anti-Naxal operations, visit security camp in Chhattisgarh during 2-day trip
NEW DELHI: Home minister Amit Shah will visit Chhattisgarh on June 22 and 23, during which he will review the security scenario in the state against the backdrop of intensified anti-Maoist operations, and also tour the Naxalism-hit Narayanpur district.

It was in Narayanpur that topmost CPI(Maoist) leader Namballa Keshav Rao alias Basavaraju was neutralised by district reserve guard (DRG) wing of Chhattisgarh police last month. During his visit to the district on June 23, Shah will interact with the DRG teams that had tracked and eliminated Basavaraju and 27 other Maoists. Shah had earlier met the senior officials of Chhattisgarh police and felicitated them on success of the same operation.
The home minister will also meet local villagers in Narayanpur to take stock of development initiatives on the ground.
According to Chhattisgarh govt sources, Shah is scheduled to participate in key programmes related to development initiatives as well. On June 22, he will lay the foundation stone or inaugurate various central institutions at Atal Nagar in Nava Raipur. Later, he shall inaugurate the newly-constructed campuses of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) and the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Raipur.
The same evening, Shah is due to chair a high-level security review meeting with Chhattisgarh chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai, senior state officials, and top security personnel. The meeting will take stock of the ongoing anti-Naxal operations and discuss how to build up on the recent successes that have seen the elimination of two top Maoist leaders, Basavaraju and central committee member Thentu Lakshmi alias Sudhakar, over the past month.

The Chhattisgarh chief minister on Thursday described Shah's upcoming visit as a 'symbol of renewed energy and confidence for Chhattisgarh,' underscoring the importance of coordinated efforts between the Centre and the state to combat extremism and promote inclusive growth.

I know that this fight is tough, but I strongly believe that Bharatiya society will win this fight.' 'Once again, with pride, we will run our country using our languages; we will think, research, find solutions and also lead the world,' Shah said. In recent years, the BJP-led government at the Centre has found itself in the middle of language rows involving the DMK-led government in Tamil Nadu, which has accused it of Hindi imposition. The Centre has denied this, saying the three-language formula does not make Hindi compulsory. Shah, however, spoke of Indian languages without going into which language can be a link language in a linguistically diverse country.

On Friday, Shah will inaugurate the Bengaluru Campus of Adichunchanagiri University, further highlighting the Centre's focus on strengthening higher education infrastructure in the region. NIA Special Court sentences one more accused to rigorous imprisonment in Kolkata JMB terror conspiracy case
New Delhi [India], June 19 (ANI): The Special Court of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) sentenced one accused to six years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) in a Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) anti-India terror conspiracy case in Kolkata on Thursday. According to a NIA press release, Najiur Rahman, Pavel and Joyram Byapari Joseph were sentenced under sections 120B, 468 & 471 of the IPC, sections 18 & 38 of the UA(P) Act, section 14A(b) of the Foreigners Act, and section 12 of the Indian Passport Act. In addition to RI, the court awarded him a fine of Rs 20,000. The STF police station at Kolkata had registered the case originally in July 2021 with regard to the illegal entry of Bangladeshi national Sk Shabbir, Joseph and others, into India. Members of JMB had hatched a conspiracy along with their unknown associates to wage a war against India by recruiting and motivating young Muslims from within India and Bangladesh. The youth were motivated to establish a 'Caliphate' by removing India's democratically elected government through use of criminal force, NIA said. NIA, which took over the case in August 2021, filed its main chargesheet against five accused persons in January 2022. All five are currently in judicial custody. Accused Rabiul Islam was convicted to five years RI and a fine of Rs. 20,000 in November 2024 in the case RC-19/2021/NIA/DLI. The trial against the remaining three accused is continuing, central agency said. (ANI)
