Mob of more than a dozen men vandalize taco truck in South LA, injuring at least 6 people
On Aug. 3, around 12:05 a.m., a group of about 15 males used baseball bats to vandalize a taco truck on Avalon Boulevard and attack people, injuring about six victims, according to LAPD spokesperson Rosario Cervantes.
One person was hospitalized with abrasions and lacerations and the other five weren't treated at a hospital, she said. No suspect information is available and no arrests have been made. The motive is still under investigation.
The taco truck employees started a GoFundMe page to raise money for the victims of the attack. One of the workers was the person hospitalized for their injuries.
'This is absolutely devastating to us on so many levels, we have been at this location for almost 15 years and nothing like this has ever happened,' according to the page. 'We have never had problems with anyone, our team works extremely hard. We hope that these people are prosecuted for their crimes. Our employees are traumatized by this and we will support them in every way possible.'
Video of the attack was also livestreamed on social media, showing the mob smashing windows in the truck.
'When one of my employees called me, 'Please, please call the police because about 25 peoples hit us with baseball bats and metal.' It was scary,' the owner, who didn't want his name used, told ABC7.

Teen vanished on trip to see estranged dad's family after sending haunting text to mom
A North Carolina teenager has been missing for six days while visiting his estranged dad's family — vanishing soon after sending an alarming text to his mom, pleading, 'Mom help.' Giovanni Pelletier, 18, was last seen around 1:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 1, when his cousins came to pick him up from where he was staying on a trip to connect with his dad's side of the family, his mom, Bridgette Pelletier, told People magazine. Within 30 minutes, he sent two texts to his mom — including one begging her, 'Mom help.' 3 Giovanni Pelletier was last seen on Aug. 1 after disappearing on a road trip with his cousins. GoFundMe The teen also called his at 1:56 a.m. and tried to reach her again a minute later on FaceTime — then texted an aunt and his grandfather for help when he didn't get a reply from his mom.\ However, his mom, who was staying with him on the Florida trip, missed them as she slept — and woke at 6:20 a.m. to the eerie messages from her son, along with a missed call from one of the cousins who'd picked up Giovanni, she said. Bridgette Pelletier said she then got a message from her son's paternal grandfather — whom he'd been heading to see — claiming that Giovanni had fought with his cousins as they smoked marijuana, getting left on the side of the road in Bradenton for pulling out a knife. 'He said he didn't have all the information but for me to let him know when I found Giovanni,' the tearful mom told People. Bridgette eventually discovered her son's phone in his backpack, abandoned by the side of the road, using GPS data. 3 His mom, Bridgette Pelletier (l), has accused the cousins of not doing enough to find her son. Facebook / Bridgette Pelletier 3 A $10,000 reward has been offered for information leading to Giovanni's discovery or an arrest and conviction. Facebook / Bridgette Pelletier 'It was his phone and his backpack, and he wouldn't have left that. My son eats, sleeps, showers, breathes his phone,' she said. She believes the cousins haven't told her the full story, and claimed none of them had helped her in the search for Giovanni, which has spanned Charlotte and Brevard counties. 'They said they wrestled the knife from him, and then my son took off running,' Bridgette said, describing the behavior as completely out of character for her son. 'He [the cousin] only called me that one time. And then no effort was made to communicate with me. No effort was made to come back to the house to let me know,' she said, through tears. 'None of these kids that were with him have tried to call me and ask me if I found him, asked me if he's okay, asked me anything,' she said. She also accused law enforcement of not doing enough to help find her son. Brevard County Sheriff's Office did not respond immediately to requests for comment. 'We do not have any updates on this investigation and continue to ask anyone with information to come forward,' a Charlotte County Sheriff's Office spokesperson told The Post. Bridgette and Giovanni had traveled to Florida, where his estranged father lives, in late July, along with her fiancé, Jeremy Brown, and Giovanni's four siblings, to visit a relative undergoing chemotherapy. A $10,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to Giovanni's discovery, or to an arrest and conviction.

Entire family — including kids ages 2, 5 and 12 — killed in fiery collision with wrong-way driver on Colorado highway
Two parents and their three young children were tragically killed in a fiery head-on collision with a wrong-way driver in Colorado early Monday morning. The family of five was driving in a GMC Yukon SUV on the southbound lane of a highway shortly after 7 a.m. when the other driver switched over from the northbound lane and crashed with such force that both vehicles burst into flames, KUSA reported. Andres Cabral-Banuelos, 2; Manuel Cabral-Banuelos, 5; Maria Cabral-Banuelos, 12; Andrea Banuelos-Salazar, 30; and Manuel Cabral-Torres, 34, died at the scene despite first responders' best efforts to save them. GoFundMe The 25-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 pickup truck that rammed into the front of their vehicle was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, according to Colorado State Police. 'The loss of an entire family is an unspeakable tragedy, and our hearts are with all who are grieving during this incredibly difficult time,' the Grand County Coroner's Office said in a statement. Advertisement The Cabral-Banuelos family lived in Kremmling, Colorado, a small town about 100 miles outside of Denver. 'In a moment's time, all five of them are gone. Just one person alone is tough on a lot of people, but five, it's just so hard. Losing all five of them, all at the same time. His youngest was 2 and his oldest was 12. They had their whole life ahead of them. It's so sad to think about,' Javier Torres-Garcia, Manuel's cousin, told KDVR. Their extended family posted a fundraiser to help cover the costs of transporting their bodies back home and eventually arranging a funeral. The family was killed on Colorado Highway 9 near mile marker 136 just after 7 a.m. on Aug. 4, 2025. Google Maps Advertisement They encouraged others to come together 'just as Manuel always wanted.' 'I was really happy to hear when he would come visit us. He was the kind of guy who always tried to get family together no matter what. Even if it was a day or two, he would always make time for family. Manny was a great dude, and he's going to be missed by a lot of people. His kids were very young,' Torres-Garcia said. As of the beginning of July, Colorado had recorded 278 traffic deaths statewide, a significant decline from 307 recorded the year prior, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.

S.S.F. family seeks help after red-light runner crash kills mother, injures sons
The family of a woman killed in a car crash that also injured her two young sons last week in San Mateo is seeking help from the public as they grieve her loss. Yina Ramos Bello, 30, of South San Francisco was killed July 31 when her Prius was broadsided by the driver of a Ford SUV who ran a red light while exiting a freeway, officials said. Bello's family created a GoFundMe fundraiser to crowdfund financial support for a funeral, returning her remains to her homeland, medical bills for her sons, 6-year-old Mathias and 5-year-old Mateo, and living expenses for her husband, Alejandro. As of Wednesday evening, the fundraiser had received nearly $70,000 in donations. 'In the so-called 'Land of Opportunity,' how can everything be taken from someone in an instant?,' Bello's relative, Vanesa Ramirez Bello, wrote on the fundraiser's page. 'This could be any one of us. No family should have to bear financial hardship while navigating such profound grief. Your compassion and generosity will help Alejandro and his boys focus on healing instead of survival.' The collision occurred on Alameda de las Pulgas at a Highway 92 offramp in San Mateo, according to a previous Chronicle report. Bello died at the scene and her two boys were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment and were listed in critical condition. The driver of the Ford SUV, a man, was also transported to a hospital to be treated for minor injuries. Investigators said he failed to stop at a red light while exiting east Highway 92 at the Alameda de las Pulgas intersection. The Ford broadsided the Prius, which was traveling northbound through the intersection on a green light. Police previously said they had not determined why the Ford's driver didn't stop, but said drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the crash. 'We have no new information at this time,' San Mateo police told the Chronicle in an email Wednesday. 'No charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing.'
