First shots of Croke Park stage emerge as anticipation brims for landmark Oasis shows

After almost exactly a year of waiting, the time is almost upon us when the iconic rock band take to the stage in the 82,000-seater national stadium's famed cauldron of noise for their first concert in Ireland in 16 years. The group have so far performed 15 nights around England, Wales and Scotland and are currently in Ireland enjoying a four-day gap between their last show of a three-night stopover in Edinburgh and Saturday's Croke Park gig. Little is known by way of official Oasis social media of what exactly brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher are up to in Ireland ahead of the gigs, though they are joined here by members Gem Archer, Andy Bell and Joey Waronker for the reunion tour. But with 160,000 diehard fans expected to make their way through the turnstiles over Saturday and Sunday, many have been hoping to catch a glimpse of how the event is going to go down. This evening, images of pre-concert preparations at Croke Park have been published which show substantial progress on construction of the stage. Situated in front of Hill 16, high-viz workers can be seen high up on a cherry picker connecting vertical chains to the metallic stage structure above while an industrial-sized truck sits outside the entrance between the Hill and the Hogan Stand. Stewards can also be seen standing by temporary gates outside the entrance to the stadium. Paul 'Bonehead' Arthurs, guitarist and co-founder of Oasis, posted a series of photos to his Instagram yesterday and today which tickled the group's Irish fan base pink. Captioning the first one 'Bring on the noise' accompanied by four tricolour flag emojis, Mr Arthurs' photo showcases a misty-eyed view of Dublin Bay including some of Howth, Sutton and the entire Bull Island, the view seen by all plane passengers landing at Dublin Airport. He posted further pictures to his page today – one of him standing alongside fellow guitarist Andy Bell on stony beach as well as the pair in the water together with the caption 'When in Rome and all that'. The Gallagher brothers have strong connections to Ireland given that their parents, Peggy and Thomas, hailed from Charlestown, Co Mayo and Duleek, Co Meath respectively before emigrating to England and meeting in their youth in Manchester. Noel is the only one of the pair that has already performed at Croke Park as a GAA player representing the club Oisín's from Manchester for whom both brothers played in their younger years. Extra rail services to Dublin are planned for the upcoming weekend as crowds are set to descend on Croke Park for the gigs. Croke Park can be reached by taking the following routes on Dublin Bus: 1, 6, 7(a), 11, 13, 15, 16, 27(a/b), 33, 40(b/d/e), 41(b/c/d), 42, 43, 44, 53a, 122, 123, 130, H1, H2, H3.

Dublin Airport ruthlessly troll Mo Salah over penalty miss in Community Shield after Liverpool lose shootout to Palace

OH MO Dublin Airport ruthlessly troll Mo Salah over penalty miss in Community Shield after Liverpool lose shootout to Palace MO SALAH'S wayward Community Shield penalty allowed the football community to come together for the first bit of trolling of the 2025/26 English season. He was one of three Liverpool players who saw their penalties saved/miss the target as Crystal Palace took the season-opener at Wembley. 2 The Egyptian King blazed his spot kick over the bar Credit: Alamy 2 Dublin Airport staff joked they found it on the North Runway Credit: @DublinAirport Salah's was the most eye-catching failed attempt given his status as the Reds' regular penalty taker and the dramatic nature of him skying the ball over the crossbar. Even the social media team at Dublin Airport got in on the fun as rival supporters poked fun at the Premier League champions' main man coming up short under the spotlight. Alongside the above pic, they tweeted: "The team out looking for Salah's penalty - the ball just landed on our North Runway." They didn't stop there either as the wind-up efforts continued into the replies. One follower fired back: "Stop trying to be like Ryanair's admin and sort your zone 18 car park out." This prompted them to note: "Football is like the Arrivals Hall. It gets emotional." Similarly another Liverpool fan responded with a rather grainy photo of Salah showing off the Premier League trophy alongside his individual Golden Boot and Top Playmaker awards. But not backing down, the Dublin Airport account responded: "Almost as many pixels as there are Community Shields in that photo." Arne Slot's brave new world suffered a losing start as the Eagles clinched the Community Shield on penalties after a 2-2 draw. Salah, Alexis Mac Allister and Harvey Elliott all failed from the spot before sub Justin Devenny sealed victory for the FA Cup winners. It had all looked so dreamy for Liverpool's new signings - goals from Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong and an assist from Florian Wirtz - but Palace fought back and bossed the second half. Moment Leicester fans applaud protesting Sheffield Wednesday supporters amid crisis club's financial woes Ismaila Sarr netted their second equaliser late on, after Jean-Philippe Mateta's first-half penalty had briefly levelled it. Liverpool have spent just south of £300million after winning the Premier League by ten clear points last season - but Slot was unable to add a second piece of silverware as his Reds wilted in the intense heat. And so it was another glorious Wembley outing for Oliver Glasner's side as the jubilant Palace fans out-sung the Red Army just as their team had outplayed Liverpool in the second half. In all, five penalties were missed in a chaotic shoot-out - after Salah had ballooned the opening effort, Dean Henderson saved from subs Mac Allister and Elliott. PROPER INTENSITY Unlike many versions of this fixture, it had been a proper match, played at a proper tempo in a proper atmosphere. Palace fans spent large parts of the match chanting 'F*** Uefa' and 'F*** Marinakis' as they await Monday's verdict from the Court of Arbitration for Sport over their appeal against demotion from the Europa League to the Conference League over a dual ownership technicality. Evangelos Marinakis's Forest are the club who would benefit. Liverpool's four marquee summer signings - including former Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez - were all in the starting line-up, while Glasner named his FA Cup final starting XI. After a wonderful summer of sport, English football was back in all its snarling malevolence. Wreaths were laid in tribute to Diogo Jota but sadly the planned silence for the tragic Portuguese forward was cut short due to a few moronic loudmouths in the Palace end. The match itself, though, was an enjoyable romp - with Slot's new boys proving an instant hit.
